The current condition of trucks in general is higher fluid temps over all.

Even the F150 can hit 240F with, WITH, a freaking huge oil-to-water cooler.

Dodge Ram is seeing engine oil temps in the 240s unloaded with 220-230 engine coolant temps.

Even in the TFL video the transmission temps in trail boss rose from 187F to 214. That is with an aux cooler.

Tundra does have a transmission cooler, not an auxiliary air-oil cooler.

So no matter what you are gonna be seeing high fluid temps of some sort.

If you are towing with a vengeance, all year, up hill both ways, and need to go 85 mph in 130F ambients, your best bet is to get a 1 ton from GM, Ford, Dodge.

We used to do this with some old snowmobiles back in the day, we’d have to throw snow on the engine every once in a while to cool it down... works like a champ!

I recently pulled a trailer to Nashville from SWGA. Put it on the scales at work before I left, 8231 lbs. I have no idea what the transmission temp was doing on the trip, nor do I care. Truck handled it great. Transmission didn’t explode. Enjoy whatever POS you buy to replace your Tundra OP.

I don't think anyone ever needs to go that fast, let alone when towing.

Lol, I love these threads by folks who think they know better than the Toyota engineers while having zero empirical evidence or qualitative / quantitative analysis.

They might just do that if:

shift strategy changes to something with less lock up
    Rear gearing
    Transmission ratio changes
Power changes “ in the curve”

I feel your pain. . But. . .I had a 19 tundra and towed with it. No issues. . I now have a 21 and towed for the first time today with it. Actually towed a tacoma about an hour and a half for a friend of mine. No issues. . Granted, ill probably never tow more than 5000 pounds and don't keep a truck more than 4 or 5 years anyway. . But I'm gonna tow with it, transmission be damned. . I've probably owned 10 Chevrolets and GMCs and never had one that didn't sooner or later have transmission issues. . All with coolers. . I'll take my chances with an uncooled tundra.

I tow regularly, but not up a mountain at speed with 7000+lbs like the TFL video. Even then, the tranny did not overheat on them and trip the idiot light. If 5% of owners ever hook up a trailer, then I bet only 5% of those who tow ever do what the TFL guys did. If this is your towing routine every day, then add the cooler or buy a diesel. Time will tell if Toyota gets a bunch of tranny failures from the 2019-2021 trucks, but my truck is staying stock, and I am going to bet on Toyota engineering.....

This community likes to run people off who have a different opinion than them. Whether it’s needed or not, everyone doesn’t have the same opinion and some people want to spend their own money the way they want. It evens seems likes there are mods in this thread running the OP away. Greg Marmaland was the first to be run off, now this OP.

Quote from a Toyota Engineer from the other transmission cooler thread:

Hey I don’t care what people do with their own money and truck but until there are documented cases of transmissions failing because of the lack of an external transmission fluid cooler, the mocking will continue. It’s inevitable.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard an operations or maintenance technician trying to say there's a problem with an engineer's design that they don't understand, I'd be retired.

I'm using this truck well within the mfg specs, pulling a 6k lb trailer. If my transmission burns up using the truck as intended, while following maintenance guidelines, fuck Toyota, and I'll get another brand next time. If OP is concerned with the new design, he can keep his current truck, buy another brand, or install a cooler on the new one. Choices, choices.

This is almost as bad as the 2nd gen members at TacomaWorld whining about the 3rd gen design changes. Almost, lol.

U pays ur monies and u takes ur chances.

I surely wasn't bashing or mocking. . Simply stated that I came FROM the other trucks. .with terrible luck. . And I don't pull as heavy as some so I'm going to take my chances and hope for the best.
