    Wondering if anybody else has done this yet now that they are out??

    2016 5.7L 4x4 CrewMax
    6" ProComp Lift
    Nitto RG 35's
    Hypertech (was already installed with tires and lift from dealer)

    Up until now the only thing I have changed was tires.

    Picked up my truck last night after the 5.29 install and Auburn Pro LSD.

    I went from 4.30's to 5.29's... I'm curious what MPG some of you were getting on a similar configuration. I'll have to do an actual calculation, but before the 5.29's my reported avg on the display was 11.7 mpg. So far it has only increased to 12.5 mpg with the onboard display which I reset when I picked it up just to see if there were initial changes before I cal'd the hypertech.

    Gas mileage wasn't my only reason for the install, but .... ouch... if that's all I'm gonna get out of it that def wasn't the increase i expected.

    The other interesting part of this is that I didn't have to calibrate my speedometer. Via gps speedo I tested to see how far off the truck was right after picking it up, and it was spot on matching the GPS speedo I used. I flashed the hypertech to update it to the 5.29 for kicks, and I ended up being 10 mph off. According to toyota, the speed sensors are at the wheel now? The gears were most certainly swapped out, so I know its not a matter of "no gear change".

    Anyhow, anybody else out there pick these up on pre-order and get them in yet?

    Not to shit on anything you said, but I really feel that I need to suggest that everyone hand calculates their gas mileage and stops mentioning what the dash claims.

    If they hypertech was installed prior to the gears then it is inaccurate. It needs to be reset in order for your odometer to work accurately

    Add on- i had a hypertech as well and i felt like it was further off on speed as well.

    agree with hand calc etc. Needs to be an apples to apples comparison. and that may mean if you don't have Hypertech, you can calc by increasing your miles driven by xx% then dividing gal's after that.

    MPG calculation must account for actual miles traveled, which is affected only by change in tire sizes.

    How do you hand calculate if the truck computer isnt able to display actual miles because of a re-gear or tire size change? Seems to me the only way to get accurate hand calc is with a GPS device recording trip info or properly recalibrating the computer. Maybe i am missing something.

    At 100 mph using stock tires, with new tires, say it actually reads low, so let's say you're actually doing 110 mph when indicated 100 on the speedo. Approx 10% difference.

    When the odometer hits 100 miles, you actually now have traveled 110 miles. 10% more.

    The tank you just ran, shows you filled up at 430 miles. Add 10% to that. Now do the calc for gas/MPG.

    Yeah, had mine for a couple months now. I'm still on 35s 'til next week. The ability of the tranny to hold sixth on the highway now is great. I don't see the highway much, mostly country back roads and I'm seeing +/- 12.5 mpg

    So it sounds like you got a slight increase. 35’s really kill it don’t they? I imagine 488’s may have netted you slightly better than the 5.29‘s. I’m in for the results when you jump to 37’s.

    I'm at 12.7 with 37 and 4.30, about 75% highway though. I've been collecting data for over six month. I've been collecting mpg data on all my vehicles since 2001, lol.

    I have the master kit for 5.29, just waiting for shop time now. Bro truck is going in Monday then mine, hopefully be end of next week mine is done.

    We should look it up. If our mph sensor is in the transmission then 5.29s/35’s would be recording more miles on the odo than we travel.

    I'm only reporting what I have so far. The 12.7 mpg is compensated. Purely based on uncompensated odometer reading, I'm at 10.8 mpg. I do use cruise control and relative flat out here.

    No worries bro. I just got used to it. I just take pix now and then transfer them when I do bills, lol. Yeah, I'm curious about 5.29. I think best of both world would have been 5.13 for 37's. I hope I'm wrong.

    So far I love the power returned by switching to the 5.29’s. I’ll have to do a manual calc on gas mileage, I just topped it off and I’ll calculate my usage when it nears empty and I tip it off again.

    Power wise, I have to keep in mind this was a return to stock and maybe just a bump over. It’s not like I took a strip car and dropped enough gear to get me to 130 mph. So with that thought regrounding myself, so far I have to say I’m really pleased with the change. I’ll update more on here as the days go by.

    At the end of the day. None of us care, or should care about 1 mpg up or down. We drive trucks because we want trucks. And we like our big v8 power.

    Doing gears is for drivability and enjoyment.

    I do wonder if mpg will improve with time. According to @dirtydeeds our computers will run richer when they feel the engine is lugged down with big tires, so maybe by reducing the engine load through 5.29s it will better optimize over time?

    It’s true. The ecu will adapt to not having the exaggerated load of big tires with stock gears. Mileage will go up when it adapts.

    Best way to hand calc is gps to gallons pumped into tank.
