I installed kenwood components with built in cross overs. The pair came with 2 tweeters and 2 woofers. If you have the JBL eight speaker system. The small speaker next to the 6.5 is the JBL mid range speaker. I mounted my tweeter in the OEM location. I had to remove the tweeter grill and shell so it would fit in the OEM location. So mount a naked tweeter like the OEM tweeter. I would get rid of the JBL amp. If you have the JBL eight speaker system the JBL amp is 6 channels and your aftermarket head unit will be four channels.

I retract my statement against @Danimal86. I have learned a new thing about 1st gens today. A very specific breed of 1st gen DOES in fact have sail mounted tweets. Thank you fellow interneters.

Let me bogart this thread a moment. Sail panel tweets?? Can this somehow, easily, be worked into a 2002? I would love to go three way moving the tweets to sail panels and maybe opening up the original tweet location to fit a 2.5 inch or so midrange. Thoughts? Anyone do this?

Given enough time, money, duct tape, hammers, and gum, anything can be done. Not sure on the difference of the door panels. If the sails don't fit, I'm sure some tweet pods could be fabricated into the A pillar covers.

I looked at several pics of the 2002 door panels and the front curves up where as the DC panels are straight across and have the separate sail panel. Not sure how much of that area is covered by the dash when the door is closed but there may already be enough room there to flush mount some tweets and angle them towards the front seats.

Only thing I can find is a gauge pod that could be used but it looks kind of janky. Lol. Maybe with some trimming, bondo, and some paint to match it would look decent.

As for where to mount crossovers, I can only help with RC/AC, but not the DC. See where and how I mounted mine here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/touch-screen-head-unit-whos-got-what.65309/page-3#post-1808193

On mine, I bypassed the factory amp. I just looked back at my last order, Crutchfield gave me the long adapter harness free, YMMV.
