Hey everyone, as my username suggests I am a noob, and I'm popping my Tundra cherry in the next day or two. It's been years in the making! What I need help with is figuring out from an actual users' perspective which Tundra might be best. My choices are two 2014 SR5 TSS trims that are just about identical and with similar mileage, the other choice is a 2014 SR5 4x4 (not sure if its TSS/TRD/etc) that has almost 70K miles more than the other 2.
They are all in the same price range, so I'm ultimately adding 2-3 years worth of mileage for 4x4. Considering the much-toted dependability of these trucks, would it matter? What about MGP between 4x4 and 4x2?
The 4x4 is also tricky being as I am relatively new to the south. Up north the 4x4 is a no-brainer with the snow, but is it worth it in the south with some of these rain storms? For a truck that will be a daily/trip vehicle? Having to haul a little camper up northern mountains will probably be every other year or so.
Any tips from real Tundra drivers are greatly appreciated!

    Welcome from Ohio.
I would always buy the 4x4 but I have also always been in the north.

I live in the south and I have a 4x4, in fact,I have four, I drive all over the place throughout the year. 4x4 will have better resale value as well.

4x4 - always good for mud & sand. Better resale value, too.

Lol, yes. They do. I love my 2wd, double cab. It would look better if lowered an inch or so. I prefer street trucks and traded my X-Runner for the Tundra.

Thank you for the replies everyone! Seems like the 4x4 might the way to go. Now when I say "70K more miles" were talking about 206K here. I'm guessing this one was probably someone's work truck. o_O

I have heard that about the TSS. That seal seems like a bit of a bummer. Hopefully Toyota is better about fixing factory defects than Dodge (I've been down a similar road with Jeep and had to pay $350 for "wiring issues" which wasn't what it was even there for)

LOL I swear it's most of what I see! Maybe it's just because people are hanging on to their 4x4s

Update a few days later, I ended up going with the 206K mile 4x4. She drives sweet y'all. First real drive was 3 hours home from the dealership, and we've taken her around town a few times by now. The truck had one owner who babied it and kept it local to the Houston area. For a 2014 I'm really impressed by the condition it's in so far, and it came with a free LineX'ed toolbox and bed so that's nice. Now all I can think about are getting parts for it. I will probably do new tires first since there is uneven wear, and Weather Tech mats in the back (already came with them in the front), then get some TRD parts and LED headlights & foglights.

EDIT: Also need to find some trails to play around with the 4x4

Alright y'all, I got my baby and I have loved driving this thing for the past week. What an awesome truck. For a 2014 it functions extremely well, and the inside and out look just about new. Now all I want to do (other than drive it) is watch mod videos online and find out what parts I want to buy to make it even more awesome. I definitely caught Tundra fever (or corona :goingcrazy:)
