So I got on car-part.com just to check, and searched for my truck (2001 4x4 w/ABS) for "Steering Knuckle" and the description in the parts that turned up is "Spindle/Knuckle Assembly, Front", and it shows me everything from 3rd gen 'Runners to 1GTacos to our trucks to 1GSequoias. So it could be something where the junkyard interchange number is the same for those, idk?

I think the early model years with the smaller lower ball joints might be interchangeable.

Tonight I purchased new wheel bearing, inner and outer seals, an inner axle boot, a thermostat and fipg sealant. I'm going broke!

So here I am with the passenger side CV axle.
I drained the fluid, pryed the axle a little then drive wedges in opposite sides behind the shaft until it popped free.
    IMG_20230530_181303.jpg

Upon observation I'm wondering if this may be a good time to replace the outer differential seal?
How difficult is that to do? Looks pretty straight forward. Pry out and tap new in ...?
    IMG_20230530_181355.jpg

Secondly, I noticed the retaining clip looks pretty loose and a little beat up. What does this clip originally look like? Is this normally so loose?
    IMG_20230530_181435.jpg

My plan is to replace the outer CV axle dust seals and the inner CV boot.

Those clips are pretty loose on the CV, yours are probably fine.
The outer seal is easily removed with a seal puller tool. Replacement is easy, but you have to set it back at the right depth.

Please note @Bmktw2 you have to set it at the right depth this is no joke. Exactly back to where it belongs. I had to do mine twice.

Last I checked they were $500 each from Toyota. Either way this truck project is over budget and so just going back in with some new seals and a boot. Will get the new CV axles knuckles and brakes maybe next year

You can get reman axles for somewhere around $90 IIRC from Toyota. A few guys on here have gotten them and reported good quality. Though I understand why you might wait to save on the funds.

I pressure washed the old double-sided tape residue but have not done anything beyond that. Going to use goo-gone or alcohol to remove the last bit of it then maybe wax the truck with a buff wheel, either way it looks fine.

I pressed the old spindle out and on it's way it crushed the bearing into pieces and bent the c-clip. The bearing race seems to be siezed on the spindle.
    IMG_20230606_115840.jpg

Now I have to figure out how to get the old bearing race off. None of my bearing separators fit this size...

Used my metabo grinder, cut the bearing race paper thin, used a chisel and hammer started a crack and just beat it out with the hammer and chisel.

Looks good, but I'm a little sad, my OCD's jimmies are rustled over that spot you missed on the top of the knuckle.

So I'm looking at these lower control arm camber adjusting eccentric because I noticed the passenger side wheel sits perfect but the driver side wheel seems to be too much positive camber.
Can anyone tell me, by looking at these photos something?
