Hi. New to forums. New to Tundra. Got a black 01 SR5 TRD that upon real deep inspection, after purchase as a beater, found lots of rust in frame. Fixed some. Bumpers are pretty bad. Drives great. One owner truck. Interior is impecable.

Found Spare wheel cross member is falling apart. Not good. Wheel dangling. Cant take off.

Im debating how much I should put into it.

Anyone have any tips on this or am I screwed? Thanks.

    Welcome from Western Massachusetts.

I'm trying to figure out from your post if you are aware of the Toyota frame recall? If not, go to a dealer and see if you can get a new frame for your truck. This recall was on Tundras and Tacomas. A guy at work just got a new frame in his Tacoma as part of the recall. Just not sure if there is a cutoff on what years are eligible.

I'm sure someone else with more knowledge/experience with this will chime in.

I had an 01. A dealership in south west Ohio replaced the frame on it after I had sold it to a buddy. This was two years ago. Have a dealership inspect it. See what Toyota has to say about it

If it’s surface rust, sand it down and apply Corroseal. That stuff is awesome. I used it on my rear axle and trailer hitch, turns the rust into a workable primed metal ready to be painted.
