Probably 4Lo’s fault, but I did not feel like my truck struggled at all on Imogene. Riding at 7400 lb on 18psi. It was a dream. I could feel it in 2Hi on the Ike, though.

The torque multiplier definitely helps offset the power loss.

I just looked it up, and the Ike tunnel is over 11k ft elevation. I wasn’t pulling anything, but the power loss didn’t seem bad.

I’m about to take a trailer out there this fall so we’ll see :headbang:.

Humm. I upgraded my manifolds and turbos with the cab on. I Never felt the need to pull the cab. Took about 4 hours each side.

Countless owners have done theirs in their driveway with the cab on.

My guess is he can pull the cab in an hour and probably reinstall it in about the same time. That might save enough time to make it worth the effort... but it's definitely not required.

Our “friendly ghost” doesn’t follow or doesn’t know anything about the Mitchell guide, lol.
Can the job be accomplished without removing the cab? Sure. But, someone that can’t do it in their driveway will need professional help and try to convince a dealer or shop to do that for you.

only last week in AZ did I find a Ram 2500 4x4 CC Laramie for 77k with the new ZF. I was thoroughly impressed. Avg gas mileage was about 16 sans the PeePee fluid. If I was to get any of the big 3 again it’d be the Ram still. Fords can’t brake to save their life yes I have the experience and the Chevys per dealer are having engine tranny issues. I do like the 6.6 gasser Chevrolet GM 2500. My work truck was great but burnt a quart of oil every 3k miles. Typical problem. Other than that a good truck. But that new Ram with the ZF was phenomenal plus it has some engine upgrades to resolve the last generation and NO CP4 pump anymore. So I’ll wit a year and how it fares. Otherwise the Tundra stays. Momma wants big trailer so we might need a bigger truck. I also just like Diesels.

We like our Ram 1500. These trucks come with everything that are add ons on a Tundra, the rear end is pretty much a 4 Link suspension, it is way more comfortable, the ride is much more smooth, better gas mileage, our is a 4X and it makes the 21 Tundra 2wd seem slow and I had a faster than most Tundra, the stereo is much better, so much so I did not have to replace it, the seats are more comfortable, big 14 inch screen, very quiet engine, it is quiet inside and out, comes with acoustic glass, lots of storage under back seat and two compartments in the back floor, and fo not have to worry about checking oil!!! :) and the truck brakes just fine.
    The cons:
Wish the stereo went to 138 instead of 38
I wish it had a 38 gallon tank. If it did a person could go forever and a day, looking in to add a bigger tank.
Two false misfire codes when we first bought it. The truck would not misfire but it said it did. It was not a stored code. Both times were a flash of the computer to fix that problem.
oh ya and that DANG knob in the dash to shift gears! I dislike that!!
That's it,,, it is a right fine CrewCab Truck! :)

6k lbs and below you probably will not notice a huge power reduction (depending on the size of the wind sail behind you).

I could do the speed limit up over Vail Pass with 9k lbs if I chose my gears correctly. There was a dent in the floorboard under the fuel pedal though.

Im giving Ram a chance too. I have talked with a few diesel repair center owners and they would still go Ford. The main one I talked to has all three. He has a brand new Ram and isn't overly impressed by it. The Cummins still has the problematic hydraulic lifters...so not sure how that will play out. I follow PD Diesel on socials since he is a hotshot that puts plenty of miles on per year.

The hydraulic lifters in the Cummins might be problematic, but I have to question the owners of said trucks.

Many of them elect to use 15W-40 oil just like any other diesel, when the manual very specifically calls for 5W-40. Are the lifters actually bad, or are they not getting pumped up at cold start because the 15W-40 doesn’t flow properly and build sufficient oil volume to pump them up?

Then there’s the dealership oil change monkeys probably also using 15W-40 because they buy Rotella in bulk and that is what they’re going to use out of the oil dispenser gun.

Not saying there aren’t owners with failed engines who only used 5W-40 but I’ll bet a lot of them were not using the correct grade of oil.

You bring up a good point and I bet you're not wrong. The guy I follow uses the correct grade oil and had half of his last generation Cummins motors fail. Some of his pre-2019 trucks have 500-800k miles.

There is also the specter of COVID era parts quality. I would not be surprised at all to learn that Cummins got some bad batches of hydraulic roller lifters with poor metallurgical properties or heat treatment. They wouldn’t be the only OEM to have suffered this problem in the last 5 years.

Generally hydraulic roller lifters are pretty idiot proof, I can see no reason Cummins would have a design issue with them. Hopefully they’ve squared away the dealers, and owners on oil viscosity, and had a come to Jesus meeting with their supplier of roller lifters.

I think roller lifters are a great idea on the Cummins, but not if they’re made of Chinesium garbage steel. I’ll bet Comp Cams or Jesel could make some damn good roller lifters for the Cummins, and rollers can utilize a much larger cam too come to think of it. Put solid rollers and a big bump stick in it for some big valve lift.

My brother has a 2021 1500 and for my life, I could not understand WTF the truck wanted for tow/haul, 4x4, and reverse with the trailer connected. I got fed up with it naekind at me and told him to move his own POS.

The infotainment is pretty nice, though. And the seats are pretty comfortable, too. He claims to be getting right around 20/21mpg, which is 1.5x what I get. He only has 30k with no mentionable issues, but we'll see what starts happening in the 50-70k range. I'm hoping he has a "good one" but we'll see.

My buddy almost pulled the trigger on a 2025 Ram 1500 Tungsten with the SST HO config Hurricane. He kept it for the weekend test drive while they worked the deal on his trade in Ram and Vette combo. Dash lit up and engine fell on its face on the way back from dinner 2 days into his test driving. Apparently misfire codes and some other engine management codes. Dealership will not sell him the truck now as it needs "extensive" repairs. Truck has 84 miles on it. He's looking for a loaded 2024 Limited now with Hemi instead.

I like the idea too, but reliability is king with me. I might be wrong, but I believe the bigger, commercial Cummins still don't use the hydraulic roller lifters. I kind of wish they would go back to the old flat tappet style, I think they have a service limit of something like 150K, so what is that, just a once or twice in a lifetime maintenance for most folks?
