    1/2 ton?

I'm not even sure what I would buy if I had to go out and buy a truck nowadays in any segment. Pick your poison I guess.

I have a really good buddy who's a tech for Chrysler. He said he wouldn't touch a modern Chrysler with a 10 foot pole. The hurricane, eco diesel, and anything with the e-assist is hot garbage according to him, like a german car, they are an in warranty/lease deal only. He's got a 2020 Ram with a hemi and he already has all the parts to fix in the infamous "Hemi tick", whether it be the lifters or the manifolds and can do the work himself. Its a pity, I love the way the Dodge trucks look and like I've said before, guy down the street has a blue Power Wagon and that thing is gorgeous, but no, hell to the no.

I'm still years off from going 1 ton in support of our retirement plan, but the pricing you mentioned is why I'm still fairly certain a F450 is going to end up being our rig. Nearly fully optioned is only about 10K over the numbers you listed for 3/4 ton.

I’m not bias against anything new, hell I own a 2024 Maverick Hybrid. I’m against anything new that isn’t up to the reliability of a NA V8 engine. The small displacement straight six and V6 twin turbo have shown themselves to be not so reliable. Sure they pull better but I’m not a fan of sitting in the dealership customer waiting area.

100% on the sitting at the dealership thing. Our Lexus dealer is a fancy place with a masseuse, a coffee bar, snacks, comfy seath, really good wifi, BUT, I like the fact I only have to go there twice a year to swap winter tires and change the oil. I don't care how great the vehicle is, reliability for me is pretty well top of the list.

I wouldn't blame you either. The 450 is de-tuned, but if you need a 1.5 ton truck you probably aren't towing something small or lightweight.
I was looking for a F450 as a favor for a buddy in FL. Found him several lightly used (under 8k miles) in the 74-78k range.

We purchased the Maverick at Fairway Ford and I live in Kenora. If you know Kenora it’s not the place to buy major purchases.

Years ago I was in Creede Co. with my 1st gen Tundra, pulling a harbor freight 4x8 trailer that had a motorcycle on it. That truck was gasping for air when I pulled into town and that was something like 8,500' elevation. I can't imaging 10,500'.

Beautiful place though, can't wait go get back out there in a couple of years

Keep the shirt with you when driving. You will most likely see Mr.Casper somewhere on the side with hazard blinkers on and be able to give him the shirt in person. He has jinxed himself.

    I live at 7550'. :anonymous:

Tell me about it. My Tundra pulled really well at low elevation and even on tough pulls. No complaints with the performance.

Some passes in CO are over 11K feet of elevation. Forced induction should be mandatory. Superchargers for everyone!!

Pretty much unless something changes for me it would be a Chevy Silverado 2500 Custom or LT trim 6.6L Gas 4x4 Double cab. Based on my research has the least issues with a bonus of no cylinder deactivation. The truck will feel great towing compared to any half ton truck and how I built it on the configuration it costs less than most if not all Half tons too.

I think that is still to be determined on the reliability part. The 5.7 may be dated, but it's been reliable since day one. The same cannot be said for the ecoboost for example. It's been around quite some time too and the early gens were not the greatest. I've heard the newer ones are much better finally. Unfortunately they do outperform the 5.7 though. That being said, I'd still buy a 5.7 truck if I had to do it again. And I could probably justify a supercharger with the lower cost of ownership haha maybe.

The Hurricane motor has been out for less than a year so I’m not sure how you can make the reliability claim. Also the rest of the truck has had some major issues so my hunch would be the motor will follow the rest of the truck.

Brother in law just bought a brand new ram 1500. Has 2000 miles on it. Was talking some smack and he said he’s got two trucks down now. I asked what happened and got the below. I’d screen shot it but it’s got some colorful language haha.

Fu***** tailgate stopped working first. After that the batteries wouldn’t stay charged and burnt up about 2 days after I started having issues. Then it died in the middle of the highway, overheated, and AC went out….

They are reliable but if you keep the truck for 200K + miles they're always going to cost more in the end! I had a 5.0 and 3.5 ecoboost F150 truck at work, put 300k miles on the 5.0 never had any issues, now the 3.5 was great until 206k miles and it ended up needing 14k worth of repairs, all turbo related! After my job fixed the truck they retired it soon after, I purchased it for 5k (2016 Lariat FX4), it's at 254k miles now run great and the low end power is fun. But I also still enjoy driving 2019 5.7 Tundra. The 5.0 at least with the 6spd is pretty comparable to the 5.7, Tundra has more power down low but the 5.0 seems to pull better in the upper rpm range. Now if buying a new truck today it's probably going to be a 5.0 but I would definitely consider getting the 2.7 or 3.5, still not convinced on the new Tundra.

14k to replace turbos that cost 600.00 each sounds like someone used that truck to pay off their Snapon tool box...haha.

It was both Turbos, something with the coolant going into the Turbos and the heater core, it was a expensive few months but they decided to fix it!
