sorry, I am not up to speed with the sensor cover. I never had any issues with any ABS sensor on any cars but I don't do major off-roading either.

Is the cover for mud or mainly rocks?

Can a buildup of dirt on the freeway or off-road mud affect the sensor functionality?

They do not look anything like those :)

I'll post more pics as I progress.

    The Jomax are VERY different.

More pics will be posted as I progress.

The Jomax utilize 2 mounting points per guard, they do not have the ability to rotate, they enclose the sensors (there are no open sides). I also posted a lot more info in the OP.

    Rocks, branches/twigs, road debris, etc.

You'd be surprised actually how many people post up on FB that they were driving down the road and now the dashboard is a Christmas tree. They caught a road gator or some other trash and then ran into damaged ABS components.

Is it when diagnosing and a sensor replacement can cost up to $450?

What happens if you are wheeling in the middle of nowhere and lose your 4x4 ability due to a sensor being damaged? What happens if your favorite spot is 4x4 in/out - what happens if you damage the sensor towards the end of the way into that spot?

It really is cheap insurance for the unexpected.

The current market offerings have an opportunity for the guard to rotate. They utilize one extended length bolt, single shear point. Not fully enclosing the sensor, protecting only the front face.

All those topics and more are addressed with the Jomax design.

Once I get them installed, you'll be able to get a very good visual of the difference

These appear to be the ones I have! However, the price still came in approx $16.00 less expensive... even after I selected to trade the anodized finish to a double powder coated one. Still look great IMHO. While, I may not do the serious “enthusiast” off-reading, I still feel that these items are going to be more than sufficient for the typical/occasional driver... They are well designed and appear to be a stout, solid product for my needs. Truthfully, I got them because I liked the “look” of them because the “TRD” easily matches our trucks best than what I have been seeing on other sensor covers. Again, this is just my two cents.

You are right, they are quite substantial compared to the other offerings. Not a clone it seems. Nice pics but where the heck where they taken??

A group buy could bring the cost down.....;)

Already talking with Mark about trying to get something organized maybe :)

Yes, the design of these is not a copy of any current offering. Close look taken at what the current market offerings were. Evaluated, addressed and Engineered into these to be robust and tie those open/loose ends.

Pics were taken this morning, middle of nowhere, on my way to work lol

There is clearly more machining required with those so naturally the cost will go up. Very nice design with the full coverage aspect. Quite impressed after seeing the pics. Definitely interested in these now.

So a question on this design - if the ABS sensor area gets hit, wouldn't it be better for the cover to be able to shear off separately from the sensor? Isn't the bigger issue with ABS protection keeping the sensor itself in place, or is it the impact to the sensor that's the problem?

Very good question, I am the middle man here and just an end user customer - so take my reply as such. I will also pass this question along to Mark and see what his response is.

Current market offerings attach at -1- point. If the sensor gets hit, bolt shears - then what? You have a sensor no longer utilizing any hardware attaching it to the vehicle. Does the sensor fit snug enough to be able to maintain, allow it to remain seated as you continue along bombing through the desert, taking on those off camber/articulating 4x4 trail, enjoying the forest with mud covering the unknown or ?? What happens if the sensor falls out due to that single point mount bolt shearing? Opportunity for mud, dust, debris to get into the sensor hole possibly causing much more damage.

If you look at current market offerings, there are a lot of open, exposed areas still allowing amb debris to hit the sensor itself, possibly still allowing impact damage.

More so, what if that single point mounting hardware works itself a little loose, cover rotates? That sensor then is no longer protected on its front face.

Again, this is just me (end user) giving thoughts, opinions and I hope this might have somewhat provided an answer to your questions? Or am I just rambling on? Lol

No worries, voicing questions/opinions, etc is welcome - just caught me off guard as these are so new I was wondering where on earth that "made from plastic" came from.

Hopefully as the thread progresses and product pictures and install pictures get posted you might get a better feeling and opinion on the benefit of these :)

I'm legitimately curious on this. That's a great point about what happens when the bolt shears and leaves the sensor even more vulnerable.

I still think the price point would have to come down a little for me to pull the trigger, but I'm a cheap ass, so...

The way I look at is it depends on how severe the impact is. It doesn't take much at all to frack up the sensors when left exposed. As far as shear points, it's hard to say. These Jomax offerings look like they could handle a decent hit. Depends on impact force. Hit anything hard enough it will fail.

Yeah if you're worrying about that hard of an impact in that area, other shit is probably getting destroyed too.

I agree there is something unique here in the design. Still coughing at the price, but not choking anymore.

CNC programming and machining is expensive. We provide first article inspections on CNC fab'd products, among others with a $500K CMM. Coordinate Measuring Machine. The cost for this service is quite high. We have +/- 1.7 micron accuracy. Our CMM operator is quite busy since many products require expensive first article inspection before going into production. The more angles to measure the more we charge for this service. This adds to overall cost. This needs to be considered. This is a new product so the price point is what it is. This usually goes down with increased production runs.

I'm not saying the product isn't worth it. Just saying I won't be buying it  ...at least until I wreck an abs sensor one time.

Doesn't hurt to have a spare sensor in the glove box:thumbsup:

Can you pull the fuse if a sensor breaks on the trail and repair when you get home?

Dont quote me, but I think a sensor is about $275.

For people unfamiliar, between diagnostic fees, labor, shop fees, tax, etc it could cost up to $450 for a dealer to troubleshoot and install a new sensor.
