Received my power tailgate lock about a week ago and finally got a chance to install it today. Not sure what all the differences are, but reading others post it appears to be a bit quieter and comes with extra install goodies.

    New actuator

Short harness that connects to the actuator now has shrink tubing for the part that is exposed from the tailgate to the bed.
    20200808_091636.jpg

Now comes with two new cable grommets with an extra opening for the short harness so you don't have to hack into the existing ones. Fit on the camera wire loom and harness was good.

Rest of the install is the exact same for routing the long wire harness under the truck along the passenger side to tap into the lock/unlock circuit in the footwell. I'm very happy with it and will answer anyone's questions.

I have the old style one I installed a few years ago on my 2014..
I sure do like this grommet that come with the new one

Going to contact them and see if they will send me the grommet.
If not, it might be worth buying the new one

I bet that is quieter than the old style like mine.
    It is pretty loud...

Even though I knew the tailgate was locked, I always checked it.
But not anymore since installing the Pop & lock..

I also had some leftover Dynamat, so I put some in the tailgate and on the access door..

I was the same way...until earlier this year. Seems it only locks 50% of the time? I need to email and see what the warranty is

Pretty sure mine works 100%, but I wouldn't mind if it was quieter.
    I'd also like that grommet.
Mine won't stay in with the P&L wires shoved thru it..

The have the older version also. Loud, but has never failed to lock/unlock.

I’m going to contact them about that grommet also.

Updated post above to include video. Let me know if y'all want one with the tailgate closed. I will say that if I'm standing at the driver door I cannot hear the tailgate unlock.

Why get this one over the Toyota version? I see it is about $30-40 less in price so is that the only reason?

I got a response to the email I sent yesterday..
Going to post all of this in case someone finds this thread and wants to know.

    Good morning,
We'll be happy to help. The grommet cost will be 5.00 for 2 of them and 8.50 for USPS shipping.
If you are interested in proceeding please provide the below information:

    Shipping address
    Phone number
    Cc number
    Expiry date
    Security code

    Thank you very much,

I'm either going to buy the grommets, or I might just buy the newer version of the lock.
The hardest part is running the wiring, I already have that done..

    Response to my second email..

Can you tell me if the new HD version of the PL8547HD is any quieter than the old version?
The old version is pretty loud.
It looks like the bigger plastic mechanism house might help subdue the noise a little.
If I'm going to pay almost $15 for the grommets, I might just buy the new version of the lock if it is quieter.

    Thanks again..

    Good morning,
Yes the new PL8547HD is quieter because there is no metal on metal sound. The plastic housing also muffles the throwing of the actuator.
    I hope this helps,

With everything put back together, do you feel the new one is quieter?
    I'm considering replacing mine..

I have the old one too and it is definitely noisy but not overly noisy. Honestly I like it, that way I know that the tailgate is actually locking.

Kind of cheesy, two .50 pcs that can be dropped in an envelope to a former customer and want $15. Then I get to the bottom and should say “Proud of our grommets instead of Proud to be employee owned”

I bet we could have 1 person order a few dozen of the grommets and then re-ship them out to everyone for much cheaper.

They could send them 1st class in a padded envelope for a few bucks..

I installed a Pop n Lock in my '06 Tundra 14 or so years ago. It worked for about 12 years I would say. The motor part never failed, it was some part of the mechanism that finally gave way. Oh and it was loud as hell.
