Welcome from Smithville! I went for the Pro look too... :D

I 2nd, 3rd, 4th or whatever the Ceramic Tint. You literally don't feel the heat when you put your hand on the inside of the window. I had mine done in La Grange... If they do it in La Grange, they definitely do it in College Station.

So with the ceramic tint, if it doesn't darken the amount of light, do you also put conventional tint on? Seems like you'd want both. Or am I thinking about it wrong?

Ceramic tint also offers light rejection. If you get 20% ceramic tint, you are getting the same look as the cheap 20% tint, but you get way better heat and UV protection.

What he said. Just think of it as super tint. It's not cheap but it's worth the price since you live in Texas. Your local tint shop probably has it and if they do, they'll most likely have a little sample station with a heat lamp to show you the difference. But I just thought of it as "Ceramic Tint."

Go talk to a local reputable tint shop. I learned today that any tint that is NOT ceramic these days is super cheap and will start to fade in 2-3 years. When the ceramic tint took off, they stopped making the better quality metallic based tint. Today ALL quality tint products are ceramic. It's just a matter of how much light you want to let in.

14A96007-7996-4820-AFC4-557E1B32EE70.jpg It’s not for everyone but it definitely cooled it off in the truck and justified another upgrade in the Morimoto 2Stroke bulbs...

I used to have 15% on my car and had to roll my windows down to back up at night. I can only imagine the eye strain you’re dealing with trying to drive that truck forward when the sun is down. What you’ve got on your windshield is extremely dangerous and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

I work in the truck all day in the sun driving from job to job. Don’t drive a lot at night and I have a backup camera. I can even wear my normal glasses while driving instead of sunglasses. Extremely is a stretch...

Not to mention that much tint on the windshield is illegal in many states. Some states don't allow ANY tint on the windshield.

OK guys so for the mirror caps, I'm thinking body match brown. But for the door handles, should I do matte black or midnight black metallic? Kinda torn here...

Called the local tint guru and they do offer ceramic tint. Said the cost is $300, $400, or $500 depending on the grade of ceramic tint I choose. Doing the windshield adds an additional $50. Do those prices sound about right? I'm thinking I'll probably wait till I can do the $500 option, plus the windshield. Thanks for the info guys!

I think I got the high grade for $400 in La Grange but it was just for the front drivers side and passenger side windows. It was also about 6 months ago so I don't know if the prices have gone up or if my places high grade is your places mid. I didn't bother with the windshield at all. I didn't want them accidentally messing up anything attached to it. Plus, I like the Ford, Chevy, and Ram drivers noticing me noticing them checking out my truck when we pass by. I try to give them a "Yeah, I know." look... ;)

I have ceramic tint of varying darkness. You should be able to choose the darkness that meets your state requirements, but all ceramic tints would do a significant better job at rejecting heat and they do not fade over time.

I think body colored would be best, but I think metallic black would be the better of the two you proposed.

I have to agree. Body colored would be the best way to go.

EDIT: I went back and looked at the color of your truck again and I just wanted to say that color is one of the few colors that chrome actually looks good on.

Body colored door handles may be a bit too matchy-matchy. Black would be a nice contrast, like on the TRD Pro.

We had a 1794 in your color and, as I added above, I think the mesquite and chrome actually look really good together. I've seen pro's on here where people color matched the handles to the body and it looks really, really good.

That dude gave you horrible advice. It literally takes 5 times longer to cool down a hot car without ceramic tint. And it also eliminates most of the harmful UV rays on the passengers and your interior. When you’re driving and have direct sunlight coming in through your windows, the difference is like sitting directly under the sun or sitting in the shade. On top of all that, a lot of the cheaper tint will eventually bubble up and turn purple.

I agree that the chrome looks fine on the brown. BUT, I’m wanting to achieve a full TRD Pro look which I’ve never seen in smoked mesquite. So I guess for that reason, I need to go matte black on the door handles.

I just picked up a 20 in smoked mesquite too! I initially went for a white one and fell in love with this one sitting next to it. Way prettier especially in the sun.

I think this is a little extreme. Its not like he went down to Pep Boys and bought a $10 roll of window tint and a spray bottle. Most modern metallic tints are very effective at blocking UV rays and keeping the interior cooler, its been that way for a long time. Mfgrs and installers are just riding the ceramic buzzword wave and charging a little extra. Is ceramic more effective than metallic? Sure, but not 5x more effective... maybe like 5% more at best. Either way, a quality metallic based or ceramic based tint is going to provide plenty of the protection you described over nothing at all.

Haha. I didn’t say 5x more effective. I said it takes 5x longer to cool the truck. Like 1 min versus 5 mins. And I’m comparing the ceramic to basic cheap tint.
