I’m waiting for someone to post pics of this in the tundra So I can follow suit. Not a big fan of alpine so I’m glad pioneer is on the big screen bandwagon.

I don't know if u should just get this or wait for the kenwood. I called a local audio shop and they said it's postponed until July or maybe even September. Pioneer also has a 9" version. Nex7600 for $1000

Just got this unit yesterday from Crutchfield. Initially ordered the new Kenwood DMX-957 that has about the same size screen as the stock unit. I decided to exchange it and get the NEX8600 for the screen size. Just finished installing it myself and it fits the truck very nicely. 2E10BF49-0468-486C-862D-9ECB00292F71.jpg0AB7222C-1062-4551-ADB3-E59FF3BCF104.jpg B250B43B-5EE0-471C-A066-CD7A3E5ADD94.jpg

Can you freely move the up and down angle of the screen or do you have to unbolt it then make the adjustment?

If you wouldn't mind, give us some feedback on functionality and connectivity after you have played with it. Some photos of something showing video or photos to demonstrate the screen resolution would be great too.

I’ve had a chance to play with it a little more. The functionality seems pretty straight forward. I was able to get CarPlay up and running quickly once I connected through Bluetooth. Scrolling around the screen and up and down menus is smooth and it opens different apps and menus quickly. The only lag I’ve noticed is on a Settings page for moving your icons around to your preferred positions, but nothing bad. There are some functions where you need to connect with a WiFi hotspot on your phone (Alexa and the pioneer app) that I’ve noticed so far. I really like the large display and it is much easier for me to see without having to put on readers. I haven’t gotten into the user manual as everything seems pretty easy to figure out, but I’ll have to see if there’s anything I missed. Haven’t had a chance to upload any photos or videos to the unit yet through the app.

I mounted the unit in the top din with the pocket on the bottom and bolted the screen so that it was in its lowest position. So it can be mounted a couple inches taller, but you would have to move bolts. The face is also flush, but extends out over an inch by moving four screws. I wanted mine positioned below the top of the dash and closer to the panel. As it is I have about 15 degrees of tilt. I’ll post a pic showing where I mounted it in my Metra kit and the face brackets that the screen mounts too.FCAA985A-51DC-48CA-93A3-B04E2085075F.jpg

Sweet looking! How's the resolution? Only thing I would miss is the DVD option to play (while parked)!

I had a couple of questions if you don't mind...
    1. I understand that you mounted the screen as you'd prefer it but I wanted to know if you lower the screen, would the screen mount flush to the Metra kit.
    2. How does the ambient light sensor work, does the screen auto-dim as soon as you turn on the headlights and is the brightness bearable at night.
    3. Does the screen shake, while driving? I asking this question as I had a bad experience on a different vehicle with the metra kit as the brackets are made of plastic and this caused constant shacking on my double-dim head unit.

    Thanks

Damn that looks good. I'd really like to change to the larger floating style screen but I have to street park and I fear it being too much of an attention grabber for potential thieves.

Who's put one of these in with the JBL system? I'm looking at head units to replace the JBL head unit and retain all factory functionality. I plan to re-evaluate sound quality and speaker replacement after replacing the head unit itself.

I haven't needed an after market HU for the last 10 years until now, and I really like this one but I feel like it would be stolen. I never had that feeling with any of my OEM HU. I'm still on the fence on if I'm just going to ignore how terrible the JBL radio since no one will steal it or go with this.

Had mine installed today, and am beyond impressed. Screen is super fast, and very intuitive. Wireless CarPlay is beyond nice, especially since I have it coupled with the wireless charging center console lid. Does not look out of place at all. Fits very nice, and the lines match cleanly with the flow of the dash. Does not look or feel at all like a Velcro’d on tablet for a head unit (which I was afraid of). Very much dresses up the interior, as well as gives it a much needed boost of looking a bit more modern.

Most impressive feature tho is how INCREDIBLE it sounds. I had replaced the factory speakers / sub / amp from the crap JBL system, but had kept the factory head unit for steering wheel controls and USB functionality (new deck w / maestro retains them all). Finally swapping in a real head unit makes my system sound amazing. Went from “good, better than stock” to “OMG, this is the best sounding system I’ve ever had or heard”. My installer couldn’t believe how much of an improvement it made.

Does not shake at all when driving. Initial boot up is similar to stock unit.

Only slight negatives are it took me a couple times to remember that there is no physical volume control knob, but quickly got used to steering wheel controls only. Other thing is the screen is beautiful with HD resolution, but sure shows how the factory rear camera is certainly NOT high resolution.

Anyone on the fence, I highly recommend the upgrade.

I think after wheels and tires this will be my next upgrade. I have the JBL system so I think I will probably go the same route you did. Replace the speakers, sub and amp first then tackle this next. I'm still a little leary of theft, since no one in their right mind would still the OEM system that is in there now.

If it’s one thing I’ve tried to get thru my dense skull, it is learn from OTHER people’s mistakes instead of my own.

I promise you that you will remember what I said above after you go thru the extra steps (and possibly cost) of not replacing the head unit while replacing everything else. Buy once, cry once.

Folks on here were right. The factory HU just produces such a junk source signal that even with the best downstream components, it’s still just trying to make chicken salad out of chicken chit.

Ahh I didn't realize there were extra cost in doing it in stages. I guess I'll just rip the bandaid off all at once.

This sentence should be its own thread pinned to the top of this section of the forum. Toyota factory headunits are known for not giving a great signal to work with, and the Tundra is known for being even worse than Toyota's already awful starting point.

Even with the best tuners and best gear trying to "repair" the factory signal, its just not possible to get a clean and flat signal.

Will someone with this unit installed take and post a video of startup? I’m curious how long it takes from crank to wireless CarPlay Dashboard.

I don't have this head unit, but I am thinking about getting it. I found a video of the bootup on YouTube from when they turn the car on: https://youtu.be/8Fn0emenBbc?t=312 The link starts at about 5:15 mark.

Has anyone priced one of these with James at Tech 12 volt? Seems like online they are consistently $1195
