New Morimoto 14-21 Tundra Taillights have FINALLY arrived!

is the resistor the black box with heat sink fins on them ? That’s all that came
With kit ?

Do not see resistors in the photos either. I have OEM Led headlights and had hyper flash issues as well when first installing the XB tail lights. As soon as I added the resistors hyper flash was gone. Not sure if your issue has anything to do with having XB headlights. I am sure you know this but just in case, these are the resistors.

 

yes those are the ones.

i switched driver side to passenger side same issue. Both had resistors on them, driver side had no issues.

 

Hmm! Maybe provide a photo showing the resistors attached/connected to the tail light because what you circled on the photo are not resistors as far as I know, unless Morimoto has now built the resistors in to the taillights? Just for reference, I purchased my tail lights in late 2022 and installed in December and the resistors were not pre-installed.

2017 limited crewmax. I unplug eveything and check pins they look fine? Also I switched drivers with passenger side has same issue ?

driver side was working fine.

 

Both resistors plugged in prior to install. I removed them from truck and put the oem on tail lights in. So xb sitting in box.

 

Both lights work fine if plugged into drivers side? Do they both hyperflash if plugged into the passenger side?

 

I didn’t plug in the passenger side xb into driver side harness and test it.

I figured when I plugged in drivers xb light into passenger side harness and it was hyper flashing, figured both units were fine and just that passenger side was problem.

 

Try both on driver's side and see what happens. Then try both on the passenger side. If they both work fine on drivers side, and both hyperflash on passenger side, then the issue will be on the truck side, not with the lights.

 

I see now, I don't remember plugging my resistors into a plug like that-hence why I didn't recognize it in your first pic. They must have changed their design a bit with those.

 

Ok so I plugged passenger side tail into driver side and with ignition on position engine off headlamps off it would hyperflash.

With engine on, hyper flash would go away in on/off position with headlamps.

So it leads to believe me that it’s the truck not the xb tails is problem?

Also to add, i installed oem tails back on with engine off/on or headlamps off/on I don’t get any hyperflash. So oem tails work fine either way.

This is driving nuts ! I installed these lights like 3x already.

 

So update, Morimoto got back to me and they are sending me new updated resistor.

so hopefully this will solve the problem!

 

Just got an email, 3rd brake light is shipped

 

Awesome. I ordered mine as well a little while ago. I had one off Amazon I was going to install but didn’t want to take the risk of it burning out like so many others have and having to do it again. Figured I’d go with something higher quality, do it once and be done.

 

Just picked up a pair for my 2019 SR5 and only 2 out of the 3 harnesses fit the OEM taillight inputs.

 

So finally I get the 3rd brake light.

But than I also get this email today.

“We recently discovered that a number of our new X3B Third Brake Lights for the Toyota Tundra accidentally shipped without the threaded mounting studs; preventing users from successfully installing them.

Since the OEM mounting studs cannot be swapped over from the OEM 3rd brake light, we encourage you to refrain from installing the X3B until these studs arrive.

We are expediting the hardware from our factory, and it will be shipping out to the affected customers very soon. No action is required on your part. We recognize that you have waited this long for your new X3B to arrive, and we greatly appreciate your continued patience and understanding while we work to deliver the missing hardware.

Bummer. Good news is the light looks great though.

 

I think the smallest plug from the new tail fits into the grey and white one with the two prongs. It’s slides inside it, not the same fit as the factory one but as long as the prongs line up you are good.

 

The one I'm having trouble with is the bottom left plug from the new tails is supposed to fit the top right (gray/green) OEM plug, and it absolutely doesn't. The other 2 fit perfect.

 

Have you tried switching them? Bottom left plug of the tail to the bottom left plug of the truck. Then the bottom right tail plug to the Green/grey one? If that doesn't work I would say outreach to Morimoto for support. I don't think I've heard of anyone needing an additional wiring harness adapter for these.

 

I installed the XB LED HEADLIGHTS and had no issues with the connectors. Had to think a little bit on the motor controls but everything worked out well. These lights are awesome, well worth the money! I also have no hyper flash without adding any other components. The DRL plug into the fuse box and the white DRL / Yellow signal work great! I also upgraded the taillights and remote brake light. Truck looks great! I am looking to add some additional lights behind my grill with connection to the DRL if anyone has any suggestion.

 

Update: Morimoto got it done. They sent me new updated resistors and it did the trick. No more hyperflash and everything is looking sexy. They are a little slow at replying back, but be patient. They took care of me. Travis is a good dood.

 

talking this install in about an hour, seems pretty straightforward. fingers crossed

 

Damn hyper flash haha. Got both resistors plugged in. Worked fine with hazards. Blinker gives hyper flash. Sigh.

does it have something to do with me not installing the Morimoto relay?

installed the gen 2 Xb led headlights two weeks ago. Those ran fine without the aftermarket relay.

 

Had to drive the truck to work with the Xb tails in. Sometimes it hyper flashes, sometimes it doesn’t haha. So strange. Headlights on sometimes hyper. Headlights off. Left works ok. Right hyper. Hilarious.

You get any hyper flash? See we are the same year tundra. I installed resistors and everything and Get hyper flash at random times.

 

Just got home from work and driving the truck at night with the tails in. Just want to get this on paper before I forget. Truck in park engine on, headlights off: Hyper flash only passenger side. Headlights on in park, engine on: no hyper flash at all. Truck in drive, headlights off, both sides the same: hyper flash for half a second, then signals work as normal. Truck in drive, headlights on, both sides the same: no hyper flash at all.
