Just joined. Long time Toyota lover. Currently have a 2005 Toyota Tundra Double Cab 2wd for close to 3 years now. Truck has 130k and in very good shape. Since I have owned it I have experienced weird shifting if I come to a quick abrupt stop. Probably has happened 10 times over 3 years. Feels like starting a manual transmission car in 3rd gear (no power). Had transmission fluid changed hoping that would help ( I did not). Have recently noticed a slight drip on driveshaft (read about the seal). Truck also threw a 2714 ( something stuff off) code I believe it was. Have also read about the plug getting corroded, going to have my Mech check that as well.

Anyone got any advice? Valve body? Shift solenoid? Confuses the hell out of me because primarily it runs and shifts great. The mechanic did change fluid and used a BG tranny fluid. Should I go back to the Toyota AT WS fluid? Can't imagine that would be it.

First, welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! I have found that transmission work is best done by shops that specialize in transmissions - and only transmissions. There are exceptions but none so far in my experience.

That said, I don't know much about transmissions but there are some on the site who are pretty knowledgeable. You might want to post your question in one of the areas applicable to your situation (1st Gen Tundras or Transmission or similar). Not everyone reads the New Member section.

Like @Bakershack said, take it to someone who knows toyotas or knows toyota transmissions. I’ve cringed watching the fleet mechanic do a trans fluid swap on a 4runner on the rack(same 5speed widely used by toyota)

not sure if BG is compatible with toyota WS but you should always try to keep it the same or compatible. I used amsoil compatible transmission fluid when I did my swap, it says WS compatible in a lot of their literature. The oil has to be a specific temp when checking the fluid level, so that process needs to be done anytime fluid is drained out.
Good luck and hopefully you find your culprit; also grease the pudding out of the rear slip yoke on your drive shaft if you have 4wd

Thanks for the warm welcome and tips. So checked the tranny fluid and it was a little low. Had my shop install gasket where driveshaft was leaking and had them reflush tranny with correct
Toyota AT WS today. Going to drive like an old man for a little to let her work it in. I'll try and keep updating.
