I'd never go with an electric mower but that's just me.

There are several lawn mowers that get posted to CL and FBMP for free. A few Hondas and even riding lawn mowers. If you are handy you can get them fixed up and running. Sure you may have to sharpen the blades. But look for that if you have time to look for a mower. BTW you have to move fast on the listings. Sign up to get updates and you can snag one. :). I got two riding land mowers that way ooh and a few lawn mowers as well (which I gave away after fixing most) and a 1977 5000w inverter. All got free. Figure out how to clean a carbs and fix small issues and you will be good as gold.

Also I have worked on Honda and Older Briggs engines. Both are great in my opinion. If you get something with an older briggs engine they are as good as a Honda imho.

ICE engines are all about maintenance. If you maintain them well. Let the carb dry or drain in at the end of the year they will last u forever.

I would definitely go with the Honda for the mower. I have had 2 over the past 10 years or so, sold the first one when we moved from TX.
Non-ethanol fuel before winter storage (regular fuel the rest of the year), new blades every 2 years or so, change oil and air filter yearly. Never any problems and they always start and run great.

Our lot now is about 1/3 acre and plan on sticking with Honda gas mowers until they ban gas powered equipment.

Now for weed eaters, we have switched over to all electric. Currently running a DeWalt 60v Flexvolt. Previously ran a 12 year old Echo gas trimmer which gets pretty rare use these days but was reliable for many years.
Still think of going back to a gas trimmer sometimes, the electric is great but I find the gas trimmers to be less fatiguing to use and have more power. Flexvolt batteries are also $$$. Thats my 0.02.

I ordered a Honda today. Kind of early for the season but I wanted to get ahead of it, especially while I had the cash. Thanks all for your input.

A Honda engine will outlast the mower chassis.

Last one was 15yr old craftsman. The chassis fell apart, but the engine still ran like new. I pulled the engine and gave it to a neighbor who fixes and sells mowers.

Have a blackmax from Samsclub now. Same great honda engine, but the chassis is showing some wear already.

Good move, who knows what this supply chain nonsense will short us on next.

As @baraynavab said, see if you can find a free Honda on CL. They show up at least a couple times a month here in SoCal. I would stick with Honda for 2 reasons: 1) they seem to be more reliable than a brigs and 2) setting time on them is incredibly easy if you ever need to. No more guessing: just line up the lines, put the belt on and you’re good to go.

edit: didn’t see you already bought a Honda until now. Good move.
