    Hi Everybody!

    Later today I'm going to pickup a red 2002 Tundra AC SR5 2WD V8 with 96k miles.

Shifty's post has been super helpful! https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

I think I'm prepared to have the timing belt replaced and maybe do the LBJs myself. So the only deal breaker I think is frame rust, and it recently passed state inspection here in HI. I don't know if I will be able to notice anything the safety check inspector missed, so I'm expecting to drive it home.

Its recently had its head gaskets and O2 sensors replaced. What Shifty wrote about low mileage/short trip vehicles is impressively accurate.

I cant find much of any service records via vincheckup, carfax or the toyota owners site. I don't think it was covered in the frame recall/never had the limited service done in 2012. No record of any LBJ service either.

I like doing my own maintenance but have no general experience with trucks. I'm excited to see this community is so active, I might not want this truck otherwise. My other car is a vw mk7 golf r and I have learned a lot from that car's active owners community. So I'm really excited to join these forums!

Welcome, get some pics. I'd consider the tundra a great truck to learn on. Most stuff is easy enough to do with a moderate set of tools. And theres some smart folks that can point you in the right direction.

    Thanks!

My pics didn't turn out, but the frame seemed fine everywhere except near the rear bumper where it was flaky. Not unraveling layers of pastry flaky, but heavy surface flakes in spotted areas (about the size of quarters) that have begun to meet. Passenger side was worse than driver side. A far cry from marble sized holes, and the rest looked better than I expected. Driver side rear cabin mount was fully patina'd in rust, but the other three were only spotted or even mostly black still.

Fiance liked it and the price, even considering timing belt and LBJs. We worked out final logistics and should have the truck home this time tomorrow.

Apparently after the work the seller posted about in their ad (head gaskets, o2 sensors, brakes) the check engine light came on and they went back to the same shop to have ignition coils replaced in response to cylinder misfire codes. I'm hoping this isn't a big deal.
