    So, my truck is dead.

    2008 Tundra SR5 double cab 4.7 139K

I was driving out to one of our mountain bike trails and passed a vehicle on the highway. Accelerated as normal, but after letting off the engine threw crank sensor code (I am assuming the timing belt jumped). Shortly afterwards the engine started stumbling and had no power to accelerate.

After pulling over I saw all the misfire codes. I limped back home and when we pulled the plugs they were absolutely destroyed. Like, missing bits and pieces! I had just replaced them the week before with the correct ones from NAPA. I still have the eBay ones on my bench.

I have no idea how it continued to run with the plugs in that condition but it got me home and to the mechanic shop.

with pieces floating around in the top end I’m not looking to rebuild the engine.

I’m currently looking for a quality remanufactured long block. Jasper has nothing, Jegs/ATK is out til February, Fraser is in stock but I don’t know anything about them.

Does anybody have any recommendations for remanufactures?

Sorry this happened, not an engine but when my 2010 transmission went out I got a low mile replacement from LKQ

Do you have any pictures of the plugs or anything? Have you seen the timing belt? Had you replaced the timing belt in the past? Just trying to see what lead up to this.

Damn, no u-pull-its with 4.7’s in them? $5k+ seems steep

I did not keep the plugs. I might get motivated to explore more after the new engine is in. I have half a mind to pull the old engine apart for educational purposes. I’ve never been an engine guy. I only have the most basic understanding of internal combustion engines.

At 22+ hours Mitchell; I’m not messing around with a second engine of unknown maintenance history. I only put 30K miles on the last one since I bought it used.

    No idea.

That’s the problem. Bought used from a dealer who took it on trade; no history.

Sorry that shit happened to you, hopefully you’re able to get it resolved without spending too much more $$. Check your timing belts people. 9yrs or 90k miles. Failure is catastrophic. When in doubt, change it out!

The worst part of all of this is I was making an appointment that week to have the belt changed. I had a gut feeling it was time but no way of knowing the actual age.
I bought the truck with 111k now have 139k.

    Pretty things
    Live and learn!

A lot of shops will put a sticker under the hood to indicate the date and mileage the timing belt (and hopefully waterpump) were last replaced.

…..and it’s delayed. At least it is in town, anyway.

I’m ready to have my truck back!
