I decided to throw in a carrier bearing drop just in case. I only have 1.5” lift in rear so I made 1/2” spacers. I wasn’t noticing any extra vibration but I figured why not?

Whipped up some 1” extension tabs today. I had my rear suspension at full droop this past week and it barely pulled on the brake hose before.

Today was just maintenance. Spark plugs, PCV valve and cleaned the air filter.

Sparkplugs would’ve been a breeze if it wasn’t for the dumb secondary air pump system.

I’m now thinking about a complete bypass/removal. I already have a bypass chip and block off plates.

My buddy brought his 1st Gen Tundra over today so we compared engines. Both 4.7s but my Secondary Air Injection system takes up a lot of realstate under the hood.

Daddy got a new pair of shoes!

I stayed with the same size that I had before. 295/70–18s. Falken Wildpeak. So smooth and quiet compared to those Dick Cepaks.

It took almost a month to receive but I finally got my DuraBumps. To be fair their website does say 20+ days lead time so I wasn’t expecting them quickly.

Install is easy and it looks like they have upgraded hardware as well as removed the alignment notch that is mentioned in the instructions.

    Time for some testing!

You'll like the bump stops. I've put my suspension through its paces and they're smooth.

That's a nice lathe and bandsaw! Is that a Langmuir table with the movable Z axis?

EDIT: I saw in the previous page it is! We have very similar taste in machines haha

    So, my truck is dead.

I was driving out to one of our mountain bike trails and passed a vehicle on the highway. Accelerated as normal, but after letting off the engine threw crank sensor code (I am assuming the timing belt jumped). Shortly afterwards the engine started stumbling and had no power to accelerate.

After pulling over I saw all the misfire codes. I limped back home and when we pulled the plugs they were absolutely destroyed. Like, missing bits and pieces! I had just replaced them the week before with the correct ones from NAPA. I still have the eBay ones on my bench.

I have no idea how it continued to run with the plugs in that condition but it got me home and to the mechanic shop.

with pieces floating around in the top end I’m not looking to rebuild the engine.

I’m currently looking for a quality remanufactured long block. Jasper has nothing, Jegs/ATK is out til February, Fraser is in stock but I don’t know anything about them.

Does anybody have any recommendations for remanufactures?

New engine is supposed to be ready to ship first week in February. :fingerscrossed:

We’ll see how this goes; I’ve never had a vehicle worth putting an engine in until now so that’s something, I guess.

I have a shop with good reviews and a personal recommendation waiting.

My new engine just showed up! I’ve been pretty nervous throughout this process thus far but I’m feeling much better about it today. The confirmation that this was in fact remanufactured in the USA as opposed to the Mexico facility, the OEM Toyota water pump, and German timing belt lead me to believe this isn’t the worst Reman out there.

Now to schedule installation. Wish me luck!

Bro... are you me? Literally the same thing happened to my 4.7L Tundra on November 1st. Ordered a reman'd engine on the 7th of Nov, just got notification yesterday that it's finally being crated to be shipped!

Hopefully all goes well and our bad luck goes away! I took the liberty of ordering a new OEM starter and then some upgraded injectors from Keith over at Dirty Deeds while waiting.

Good to hear! I’ve had my truck back a week and a half. Just over 300 miles into the break-in.

Thanks for the starter idea. I ended up having them do new starter and coil-packs as well.

This is the smoothest the truck has run while I’ve owned it. New engine, suspension and tires!

I’ll be posting some more work soon.

My garage door opener has always sucked and while driving my Wife’s much newer car it hit me………. HomeLink

So, I ordered a Gentex rear view mirror off of eBay to replace my factory one. I’m happy to now have a functional streamlined opener and a compass!

Wiring was straightforward once I realized each feature could be powered separately with ignition or without. I tied into the factory power mirror harness above the overhead console and used some spiral loom to dress the wires.

I finally committed to the rear DuroBumps. A used pair from eBay saved me $100. I wonder if they’re from a member here given the sticker that was sent.

    Andre?

First 500 miles on the new engine! Time to change the break-in oil.

    Sparkly :fingerscrossed:

It feels good to get to this milestone. Truck is running smooth and quiet.

The only evidence the engine has been replaced besides the shiny new casting is some new hose clamps and one broken hose retainer. I’m so happy the mechanic took his time and put all looms and brackets back. I was worried he’d just tear everything out and zip-tie it all back together.

I made use of the warmer day today to install my rear DuroBumps. Super quick and easy.

I plan to order a U-bolt flip kit next week.

    Any recommendations?

I ended up ordering the Stealth HD flip kit from Archive. Their kit looks nicer than the Supreme Suspension one I had previously looked at.

My Archive flip kit showed up over the weekend while I was skiing.

I took some time today to install the kit. First thing I had to do was drill and tap the holes for my DuroBumps.

After that it was just trimming the bolts to size and torque everything down.
