He's got some fun project SHOs, if you're intersted. All Yamaha goodness. Fun project, and killer price.

I have not. I did look at their camping accommodations early in the spring with the intentions of checking it out. Pretty high on the list with the new truck and having 4x4, but I'm not huge into the whole wheeling thing.

My outdoor pursuits are generally focused around climbing, with some offseason trail running. The old 79' was doing a fine job of getting me to some obscure trailheads and navigating sketchy forest service roads (in dry conditions). 4X4, A/C, and cruise control are going to be awesome. Most trips are 90% pavement, with the last 10% being halfway-maintained FS or BLM roads. The 'Tundy will change that to some degree, but not so much that I'm trying to stuff 37's under it

That looks like a cool event, but kinda spendy. For that amount of money I can be on the road for 2+ weeks!

Pulled the camper out of the '79 yesterday. Did a quick wash and wiped the Dale nose prints off of the glass, and got it listed on marketplace. I ended my add with "I am going to regret this" because I have with the previous three Toyotas I've let go (Two 79's and an 80). Those were 4wd trucks, and I didn't have another Toyota to replace them with so maybe this time will be different.
Couldn't resist sliding the camper into the tundra for a test fit

It's a little too close for comfort clearing the shop door

A flatbed "ute tray" like the Aussies run has moved up in the order of importance. I think I can get at least another inch of clearance with that, and better utilize the extra space that the larger Tundra bed provides.

I have the Tundra bed listed for $600 which seems like a steal to me since the oem flares go for $150+ ea, but no interest as of yet. It would really kickstart the tray build if someone would buy it though!

Headed out this morning to the local salvage yard to check out a 2001 Tundra, a Sequoia, and a 4 runner. I need a few odds and ends, and may stock up on some spares depending on what's available.

Picking up a carpet extractor rental on the way home to tackle the coffee stains, and give the interior a nice detail.

Which yard has a Tundra? I stopped by cherry Ave and they didn't have anything. I thing I saw on at H&H but never stopped by. Also, I have a FSM if you'd like it for your timing belt job. Just let me know.

H&H salvage out on the north loop. Well according to their website anyway. I'm sitting in the parking lot waiting for them to open. You looking for anything? I can check while I'm here. @bmf4069

Thanks for the FSM offer. I have been studying the pdf version so much I may not even need to reference it when I do the job

He should respond himself, but in case he's already OTD for work, I believe he needed a paint-matched driver's side door handle (exterior). Would need to come off a RC or AC truck, the DC doesn't do flush-mount handles.

Snagged a nice OEM coolant overflow as mine was missing the cap, Toyota OEM heater relay, drivers door light and lense, and a missing wheel center cap. I also grabbed an extra garage door opener door for some prototyping, more on that later.

Got this set of OEM rear flares too. Burgundy with bad paint, and the slightest crease/ugly in one. I will let them go to a forum member for $50 off of market price before I throw them on eBay. Should help recoup some cost of this thing a little bit.

Did I mention that Dale goes everywhere with me?

I'll let the community work out a price on the flares. I will take some better pictures of them later, but for now I need to get moving on some work!

It was burgandy? Did it have tan interior? Good door cards? I thought I saw they had a blue one in there too.

@bmf4069 it was Burgundy. Good drivers door handle, with peeling clear coat. I think it was tan interior but its been getting rained on, I would probably pass on that. They only had the one Tundra that I saw. There is a chance that I may have missed it.

Palo Duro. Love it. Almost met our maker that trip. Ran out of water like the high school idiots we were. That’s where I lost the transmission in my 90 suburban. We got back to Fort Worth in 2nd going about 35 on the highway at about 4000 RPM.

Love that old 79 and congrats on the new truck from a fellow Texan. And sweet custom camper - well done.

Thanks brotha! People die in PDC every year from heat related illnesses, glad you weren't one of them!

Not a whole lot of time to play with the truck this weekend. I did rent an extractor and get the carpets and seats cleaned. Just waiting on a few more parts to come in and Friday afternoon I'm going to get started on the timing belt.

    Before
    During
    After

Im color blind as hell, so it doesn't look that much different to me, but at least if feels cleaner!

Yeah, lots of folks seem ok with big play in the carrier, but I have a sloppy one and I can hear it clunk and thunk if I make quick starts/and stops….no, it is not the slip joint on mine that is bumping (that is common if it is not regularly lubed). I recommend replacing a loose carrier bearing, as well as any suspect u-joints. Cheap insurance. Yes, they can run very loose without much vibration, but when there is 1/2” play you’re wasting hp and mpg by not putting a fresh one in. And it WILL be smoother.
