You certainly got people’s attention. You left out the part about your Tundra being black, which gives it special abilities the other ones don’t have.

The true answer is BLACK MAGIC.

Grimm....people here aren’t as dickish as it seems to you. Your topic is something these guys have been battling for years. If you found a way around it, at a great price, then you’re a big hero here. Guys are just getting fired up about it. Please don’t write us off.

The black magic comment is because of a color rivalry around here. Mine is black, so I was just cracking a joke that ours is better.

Oh yeah, black trucks owners are in charge around here.

The reason why you’re getting some push back is because you can not bypass the factory amp on jbl. If you could taco tunes would just use a harness to take the amp out of the equasion and go into your new amp. They don’t because I’m pretty sure the jbl head unit sends a digital signal to amp. Your aftermarket amplifier would not know what to do with the single. That is why all “keep my head unit” installs keep the factory amp and then usually have a signal processor after it to flatten the signal and then it goes to the factory amp. You can skip the signal processor depending on what your idea of sounds good is, but I can almost guarantee you will have a loud hiss since even with a processor they have a hard time removing all the hiss.

Most likely you have a high level input going from the factory amp directly into the aftermarket amp. Non jbl you can pull a signal direct from the head unit but not jbl from everything I have read.

    Grimm,

Yea don't take offense. I still have my 12 Platinum and the stock sound system rocks. I bought my 17 in May and was disappointed in a few things. 1. the stereo volume and 2. No Oh Shit handle for the driver. #2 had an easy solution. I read every night for a solution to #1. It sounds like you have found it. That's why we are all jacked up for info and specifics. You will see once something on the truck is bothering you and others and there is a breakthrough. It's like Xmas morning.

Please do and fill it with info on the facts about this install, because I'd love to know how to fix my crappy JBL for $100, or even $500. If he figured out a way that no one else has been able to...more power to him. Just would love to know how.

That's awesome. I just wonder what they did or how it's all hooked up. Especially in only an hour. Whatever the process is, it sounds very promising for us JBL guys who have not been able to find an affordable solution. This is why I am so skeptical. For years the JBL has been an expensive and extensive conversion to make it sound even half way decent.

I will vouch that most everyone on this site is really cool and very helpful. Also, some really smart people on here.
With that being said giving and taking a little shit makes it even better.
Don’t take offense to anyone on here. Thanks for sharing info and keep it coming.
