You are correct. Down here in South Florida, if the grass grows above a few inches long, the snakes comes running. I just keep the place fully landscaped. The heavy rain doesn’t help with keeping it all groomed very often. And with the heavy rain, comes the gators and more snakes. :)

I remember those days living in Killeen Texas, where I had to get a landscaper to do my lawn whenever I got deployed. My wife wouldn’t dare mess with a 1 acre lot that’s filled with trees and plants and snakes. :)

I think there is some confusion in this thread with people saying invasive species. Aren't rattlers native to Florida? This doesn't appear to be a python like some have said.

Pythons are doing massive harm in Florida and need to be completely eliminated.

I'm happy to live where these things do not. I've seen the occasional Rat snake in my area but nothing like those beasts.

Wow, it sounds like you all had an established system going on in the snake business. I have a fearful respect for all venomous snakes. I have no problem killing them whenever necessary, but I couldn’t work with them on a regular basis. It takes a special type of person without any phobia of snakes to work with them. I lift my hat to you and everyone that likes or work with venomous snakes.

Yup, they like to run. That’s why you have to move quickly to get them out of your yard, as soon as, you find them there.

:rofl:Sounds like you’re the best person for the job of hunting and catching the pythons down here in South Florida. However, we would have just one slight problem. The amount of lead that you would have used would render the entire area toxic from lead poisoning :rofl::infantry::laser::quickdraw::quickdraw::fenforcer:

Yes, the snake in the photos is a rattlesnake and venomous. It’s also a native species of the state of Florida. However, I had also spoke about the python problem down here in our state. It’s a none native and invasive species. There have been some signs of the pythons mating with other species as well. It’s a nightmare that we are trying to get rid of.

It is a rattlesnake. But, I had also spoken about the pythons in subsequent posts. Sorry for the confusion.

That’s very interesting. I guess that the younger you are when exposed to things like that, the lesser your fear. I would have been thrilled to participate and experience the whole thing, especially with my grandfather. Thanks for sharing.

There is a huge den of rattlers close by me in Glastonbury. I don't think any other dens withing 50 or so miles but I'm sure there are quite a few other hot spots in CT. I HATE snakes, I see a lot of gartners, and black water snakes near me with an occasional copperhead.

Almost got bit by a small/baby copperhead hiking. Walked right over him, didn't see him at all, dad was behind me and saw him go for my ankle. Those sums-a-bitches are nasty, we tried shewing it off the trail with a really long stick but he stood tall and wouldn't budge. Encountered a rattle snake hiking in October, but it was a cold day, he was a cold snake on the trail, trying to sun himself on a rock, hell he didn't even move when I almost stepped on him.

Also for all those people killing snakes, please kill them humanely. Their cold blooded bodies don't work like ours, if you cut them in half or even cut them near the head, they still live in agony for up to 10-15 minutes. Google headless snake biting itself, disturbing stuff. Just whack in them in the head with a big blunt object like a shovel, rock, etc crush their skull and brain. If you do slice them with a hoe or blade, brain them in the head so they don't suffer.

Very interesting. I come to realize that snakes are very smart animals. The things that they do are unbelievable. I try to avoid at all cost.

However, whenever it comes to my yard, I’m very protective of it. My wife, kids, and pet must be safe in our yard. We have a wide variety of snakes coming through our yard at any given time. Many of which, are harmless racers, rat snakes, and so on. But, even now and then, we will see some rattlesnakes or cottonmouths. Those are the snakes that I kill. I’m not a snake hunter, so, I will usually kill them in the most convenient manner at that point in time. I have a fearful respect for all snakes. :)

I use to catch black racers when I was a kid in Key West. Little s**ts were quick. I was always more worried about barracuda than I was snakes. Got followed by a 5ft barracuda once while diving for lobster. It had a look as though it lost its best friend when I got in the boat. I didnt go say hi.

You’re a daredevil. Them barracudas are mean. Yet, another one of the many dangerous animals, mammals, and insects that all call Florida their home. I wonder why everyone want to move to Florida :turtleride:
