My guess would be digital key spoofing

So do you think they have modules that are master keys or do they need to steal the signal from our fob and duplicate it? Lately I have been disabling mine using the button sequence when I’m not driving. Hopefully that will be good enough and there’s not a master key signal module.

I know this is an old thread but just my two cents— the tow mirrors are indispensable for me and they are large the same way that they are on every other truck maker. I’m puzzled by the comments here.

When I test drove the two tundras I was looking at, I found that I could adjust to the blind spot on the larger tow mirrors without any major issues. I am 5-11 if that helps.

I chose a fully loaded SR5 over the higher trims that were available, and gave up the PVM. I don’t regret my decision at all and am glad I saved some money for other things. I also like the look of them (modern and well engineered). With them I feel like my truck means business without being amped up in other ways. I hope that Toyota doesn’t listen to a few squeaky wheel customers, who in my opinion have unreasonable expectations.

Likely stealing signal from the fob. They steal Rams this way all the time. Get close enough to the house to pickup the fob signal and repeat it to the truck. Gone.

I have these on my 2024 Limited 6.5 bed. They are great, but you do have to move your head a bit to see around them when turning left and looking right! You could also extend them out and that changes the "blocked view".

Not the case for my truck or my neighbours’ truck either. I have a faraday box to block the signal. The thieves broke the window and pulled the wires out and did whatever they needed to get it started.

I saw the truck after the cops found it on a shipping container.

    Similar experience with my neighbour.

no one asked for your two cents but since you gave it, I just want to point out that the original complaint was about the Canadian market being forced to have tow mirrors on any platinum Tundra and above. This was up until 2023 when I bought mine. If you like the tow mirrors then great, keep them and take as many pictures of them as you like and jerk off to them.
Toyota finally made a change to the order limitations in canada and starting in 2024 you are now able to choose if you want tow mirrors on various trims including platinum and above. Clearly they listened to some of the complaints.

The canadian market is 10x smaller than the US so I see why they may want to limit what goes out to our market vs the US but at the end of the day we are still spending the same amount of money on these trucks(well likely a bit more) so it would be nice to be able to make that choice on a $80K truck.

Ah, I see. Sorry about that. I should have been more respectful with what you’re dealing with.

    I enjoyed your input.
    Thank you for posting.

@23Tundra it's not like they added the mirrors after you bought it.
That was certainly brought up early in your thread.
    It's a shame you can't process that..:(

How does that work if the truck has a proximity key?
