I have a 2008 Tundra 5.7 4x2 w/Tow Pkg. Truck has 210k and instead of buying a new transmission im going to buy a transmission out of a 2017 Tundra with 28k on it. Im almost positive they are both AB60E transmission's but my question is has anyone ever done this??? Also will i have to program the new transmission to my truck??? Also will i need the TCM/ECM from the new truck???

Don't know the answer to your question but I'd like to know if this works out for you. I have high mileage on my truck and one day when it happens I'd like low mileage options. Please report back if you go with the newer model trans.

Who are you buying it from? If it's a salvage yard they should be able to check by using your vin number.

Check the VIN number, and yes it will need to be programmed to your truck. Just put a new OEM tranny in my 07. Absolutely broke the fuckin bank, so if you can get a swap, then I'd seriously consider. The trans guys said that Gen 2 trannys are prone to rust and they had a very difficult time finding a swap that was worth putting in. Also, check this link. I was going to buy it but they had already ordered another one. Not a bad deal:

    Best of luck.

I’d like to know the outcome of this. Did the newer model teams work out?
I’m planning on possibly doing the same
