Walk away from Samsung. Spend a few more dollars and get an LG OLED. I own three...they are the industry standard.

I am honestly not that familiar with Sony as I pretty much only sell Samsung and until I actually lived with the OLED for a Week or so I had not been that impressed with the Sony regular stuff.
I prefer the way the Samsung does "Smart TV" really overall as far as actually using them goes and stay away from Sony in general since they started farming out some manufacturing to Funai, not the highest tier manufacturer in my experience really.

I also suggest that if going that big that you spend some serious time looking at them in a store if you can and if you will be real close to the screen when viewing as the Motion Artifacts on sets that big while being too close seem to piss off users more than anything else and in pretty short order too!
These days I stick with the Samsung as it is the Devil that I know!

@00Tyler10 and @ezdog I know it isn't a true LED, doesn't matter to me. I wouldn't buy an LG if it was 50% off because too many people I know didnt get 3 years out of theirs. LG has the best black screen in the business when their screens won't turn on anymore.

I did want a Sony but since they're using LG screens I didn't go that route. Maybe that's the best of both worlds for all I know but I avoid LG in general. My old Sony that this replaced has been a great TV.

@shawn474 my brother suggested the same thing, I find the back lighting distracting but a few people I know love it.

Looks like it time to wall mount, I also used alexa to turn on and off my tv and added Phillips hue strips to the back bye congrats. I don’t prefer the soap opera effect so I turned off that function

I am going to use that line about the best blacks for sure, thanks!

I can not really argue with anything that you said either I also detest LG and pretty much have since they showed up here as Lucky-Goldstar!

Sadly though no other maker produces the OLED panels that are in sets that we can buy here so while I would never buy an LG set I also know that it is the processing inside supporting the LCD panel that really makes the difference!
All you have to do is go look at both in a store side by side knowing that they share panels and realize that the LCD panel itself is but one part of the whole set.

So for me it was worth taking a chance on LG quality as part of the risk for getting the Sony picture overall.

Having said this though if my Sony OLED croaks before its time I can hardly be shocked either and when people ask me what to buy I have to set this whole thing up for them and let them decide which is most important to them and go with that.

The other thing is that you can not sell a Pig a Bathtub as we say.
Not everyone can really understand or even acknowledge honestly the differences between 2 of anything whether Video,Audio.Food or pick anything at all where there are distinct quality level differences between similar items that we buy.
Selling used to mean educating customers about these differences and then watching and listening to their reactions to determine if certain qualities and features matter to them at all?
If they don't seem to understand differences so be it and let them buy LG!

It is all really just in your own point of view.

What really kills me still is that if you had said to me 20 years ago that everyone would be looking at $1000 and up TVs I would have and did say that they were insane that this will never happen!

    See how much I know?

So true. I checked out TVs at several stores for a few weeks and all the tv guys would tell me is "look at the black on these OLEDs". Every place I went too was steering me to them but I think they're weighing the quality of black too much. I too like the layout of Samsung menus and the overall interface. I've yet to know anyone who didnt get more than 5 years out of their Samsung, and most just get retired for bigger upgrades.

And yes, I am planning to wall mount that some time in the near future. I'm still on the fence about making that wall section an accent wall, maybe with wood boards. I'll get the outlet up high and drop lines through the wall when I do mount it, I'd like it as close to flush as possible without opening the wall to sink it.

You two can just keep that line to yourself. lol

The manufacturing process for OLEDs is difficult. As a matter of fact last I checked it was a 15-18% QC failure rate. HOWEVER it is the best performing technology since plasma and that has not been denied nor can it be denied. If you want subpar picture with a reliable LED backlit LCD screen go Samsung. If you want best in class picture and the leading technology go LG/Sony OLED.

I don't think you could've gone wrong with either. I bought a 55" Samsung smart TV from Costco back in 2009 and it's still as perfect as the day I brought it home. All our appliances in the house are also Samsung. Hopefully your choice lasts you as long as mine has!

Yes while I agree with ezdog on his statements I've never had problems with any of my LG's. I know a TV repair man that claims LG is the only TV he will own. I've had a $2600 Samsung break on me and a neighbors that caught on wire mounted to the wall. OLED like a plasma is subject to picture burn in. Sony does produce a great picture but there computer and software stinks. LG's user interface is more user friendly but, maybe just plug in and Apple TV or Roku and you have your smart TV.

There is no sub $2k 85" Sony.

I paid 3000 for my '75" 2nd from the top 2017 model. Still love it.

I've had 3 samsungs fail in under 3 yrs. Whereas the sonys last and last, got one still working from 2003, it just won't quit!

But more importantly, IMO, sony has a more 'realistic' picture, samsung especially over enhances colors, wish they really looked like that but it's not highly realistic, again IMO.

    I feel your pain!
I wasn't really considering one either but then I got a clearance email from one of my distributors with an insane price and I called and they had 1 left in the country out of 100 locations and the rest as they say is history!

This was right after returning from that job where I installed several of them in a huge log cabin and they are just crazy great sets!
