Any ideas for putting this beast on a diet? 2019 Platinum and payload is a measly 1,000 lbs. I like this truck but my Tacoma had a higher payload.

What about losing the skid plate plate? 20 lbs? Lighter running boards? Center console safe is the shitz, but that's maybe 25 lbs. I could remove the smaller split back seat and save probably 30-40 lbs. ? Apple connectivity kit that I paid $125 for but have an Android phone is 1/2 lb lol.

Seriously, anyone tried to lighten the load?

Actually just the opposite  I’ve added so much weight, it’s not funny, but hell, ive seen others who out weigh me. But I’d be interested to see if anyone has lightened one up.

Only fill up to 1/2 tank. Take the tailgate off.

It has pathetic payload and weak leaf springs. You'll never fix that.

It is a great truck with no catastrophic problems or problems that will leave you stranded. But it can not carry a load or tow more than any other 1/2 ton.

I thought about only filling up to 30 gal. Kinda defeats the purpose of the 38 gal tank tho. These tailgates seem pretty light surprisingly. Keep those ideas coming.

Do you really carry over 1,000 lbs?
I know it's easy to get to that number but how often do you do it? And would it be worth stripping stuff out to gain a couple hundred lbs of payload? The spare tire is heavy, a can of fix a flat is light lol.

I have added a few hundred lbs worth of sound deadening, roll up tonneau, plasti dip, a packed swing case, subwoofer and box, fluid film, kids car seat, and misc crap and it is just fine for me.

I agree the payload isn’t fantastic (even though it is decent) but I bought this the week after I bought my house and haven’t regretted it one bit.

    12’ x 6.5’
Upgraded some things like the axle from a 3500lb to a 5k and the springs from 3k to 5k and the tires from stock to 10k RV tires.

I’ve beaten the crap out of it. And it is way cheaper to fix then my truck.

    EDIT:

A nice perk is my buddies know they can borrow it anytime for some craft beers. So it has paid for itself several times over.

I tow an RV with a hitch weight of about 550 lb. That and my skinny wife and I at 300 lbs doesn't leave much room for freight.

Edit: I considered losing the spare.

If you need a lot more payload on the regular you may want to pickup a larger domestic truck. You wont get the reliability and the ride will suck but you will have a much higher legal payload capacity than you’ll get by trying to lighten the tundra.

You’ll be making some pretty big trade offs trying to reduce the weight of the tundra. Like removing the spare tire or dumping the steel body panels. It’s really about what you’re willing to sacrifice and how much you have to spend.

I've found little things can add up. I just wondered if others had ever tried to lighten up. I'm just looking for 100-200 lbs. No big thing if I don't get there.

It's kind of tough to reduce much weight without removing a bunch of equipment that you would likely prefer to keep or require a lot of cash. Take out the rear seats, remove insulation/carpeting, fiberglass bedsides/fenders, replacing the bed with an aluminum flatbed, forged aluminum wheels, dump the spare tire, replace the stock muffler with a lighter unit, remove some speakers, get a carbon fiber hood, and probably a lot of other things that I'm not thinking of.
