Close call. Glad you and your friend are okay. I really am. But dont blame the police. Blame the guy who pulled the trigger. The guy who does not care about you or your family. The police strap a vest and a gun on just to go to work every day. Do you? They care trust me. That job is harder then you might now. I do.

    Damn brotha...glad you're okay.

I know it's after the fact, but are you going to file a police report? You never know...every little bit of info may help them find the shitbags.

From the looks of your pics the round didn't penetrate the A-pillar? Could you tell if it was still lodged, or might it still be in the truck? If so, I'm sure the police would like to have the evidence.
If you do find it, and intend to turn it over, call them to come take pics/collect.

And based on what you've said. Sounds like you'd be a really good witness better then most. Most people cant even begin to describe what happened much less vehicle makes and models.

Damn. Really glad you’re good. Life can be snuffed out in a second.
So many of us (including me) get so wrapped up in the day to day grind we fail to stop and appreciate that we are still breathing.

    Damn dude. Glad you're ok!

I've heard the snap hiss of a bullet whine overhead when some brain dead rednecks started shooting in the woods without checking their backstop. Disconcerting to say the least. :eek2:

May be i should file a police report. I didnt do it cause i was just going away. Wanted to get out of city lufe where cell phones wont work and m glad it didnt. Was so very peaceful days of my life.

The bullet hit the pillar and scratched the grab handle and rubber molding and it should be somewhere inside. I really wanna dig it and see whatever is left of it. Hope I picked up something on my front and ear view dash cam. I normally dont hate people but the way those guys were sitting on the door sill and shooting, you only see it in the violent movies.

Guns aren’t for everyone. That’s very obvious with the headlines we see all the time. That being said, I do believe you have some soul searching, and make some decisions, but take some time with it.

Would a pistol have helped you out in this situation? Would an AR help out? How would you convince a jury that taking action in city streets was the right action?

I remember feeling totally helpless a few times in my adult life, and I will share one time with you in the early 90’s, sand box. Myself and another squid were being sent back stateside and had Marine escorts. We were not issued weapons since we were not coming back. Anyway, in a war zone without weapons, I felt like I should have been walking down the middle eastern city streets buck naked singing Jimmy Cracked Corn, waving a King James Bible, and dancing like retards. Lucky for us, we were friends with our Marine counterparts and they handed us some weapons until we were safely on the tarmac loading up.

As stated earlier, guns are not for everyone, but I like to ask the same questions to individuals that are on the fence or against weapons. I ask you sir “if I was to take a baseball bat to any of your windows and come inside (easy to do), what’s the plan? What if I were not alone? A good team can clear a home rather quickly. If I/we were only armed with bats, would you be able to defend? Can you wait 7-8 minutes for police to arrive?

Based on what you've described, I would bet it's in there. Regardless if you file a report or not, I would check and make sure there's not any damage to your airbag or the wiring in the pillar.

One thing to note, if you go looking for it or at the very least if you're going to check on the airbag, disconnect your battery first. If you find damage to the airbag/wiring, IMO I would limit/stop driving it. You don't want the thing to go off prematurely and shut down the vehicle.

A BIG YEP on this. And...if you are on the fence....find a local N*A chapter. You can get more great advice and training if you want.

'And don't worry about your disposition for the shitbags you described. They are not people...they are human shitbags. Whether learned or chosen, the claim loyalty to a lifestyle and pseudo-tribalism, founded and supported by criminal-bastard misfits who cannot separate pipedreams of being a kingpin from what it takes to earn an honest wage and provide for their family. Clearly, you witnessed the worst of the kind that have complete disregard for human life (considering all the innocent by standards). What you saw was the diaper-stain of our society.

Big responsibility to own and carry. I agree here to take your time and not rush decisions in the heat of the moment. I carry. I made that decision a long time ago but I train, take ongoing classes and most of all I mentally put myself in situations and ask myself what I would do.
In this scenario if you were carrying and decided to draw and open fire you most likely could be facing criminal charges as well. These thugs were firing from a distance and if you were to do the same your bullets could very likely miss your target and hit innocent pedestrians etc.

Now, the scenario that Chris mentioned is precisely why I make the choice to own. I could never live with myself if I could not defend my family and in today’s f-ed society a bat more than likely won’t cut it.

Some very good points in your post. Just an FYI, 44 people got shot that weekend.
My friends w guns always telling me to atleast get a glock. I instead got two 12 inch maglite mounted in the truck that I always joked w them can open the heads if need to be. In this case, maglite wouldn't have helped unless ofcourse I was Jason Statham who can throw a maglite and break open the head in two pieces. Also reminds me of Sean Connery dialogue in untouchables, "you bring a knife to a gun fight".

I sure didnt want to die caught between two scumbags without defending myself. I have been looking at Glocks since yesterday. CCL takes 6 months to get in Illinois. Atleast, I can mount one in the truck. As for the training, I have freinds w retail stores who have killed these low lifes while protecting themselves and walk free after initial investigation.

These clowns were not shooting at you. You unfortunately were in the cross fire.
Return fire and they may decide to make you their intended target. I don’t know about you but I would prefer to take cover and let them kill themselves.

I think you should file a report and provide them with the video and any descriptions. You never know, it could bring these shitbags to justice.

All great but I can tell you most of the time when you walk free it’s not “free”
Most cases will involve an attorney (not free) and a nice chunk of your time. Not to mention possible civil suits. Taking someone’s life will never be “free”

There was no cover except getting underneath the truck but even that was too late. Only thing was to duck down and pray that he misses which obviously he did or I moved.

Thank god! But ask yourself if having your 13 round glock with your back up mag would have been an even fight against what these dirt bags were packing. I know Mel Gibson can hit and kill with a mid frame semi auto at 100 yards but the reality is with the adrenaline pumping you would not have hit shit with a small pistol. You were lucky. That shit happened so fast you wouldn’t even have got to your firearm.
Now if they were close range and you were a target the by all means it’s time to draw your weapon.
Basically what I’m saying is in my opinion a firearm would not have done you any good. LUCK was your best defense.
