She's a firm believer of good ROI (return on investment). When I got my tundra, I traded a Tacoma, and got 14k, which gave me a positive margin if I was to sell my tundra. She hates expensive frivolous spending on "dumb" truck parts.

2500hd's are way over priced. Keep your Tundra and put some 35s on it, or even 37s if you want bigger. Tundras hold their value better and seem to have better quality parts in them. I've always like GM trucks, just not enough to ever buy one again.

What’s amazing is how women will tell you how stupid truck parts are. Then go to their closets and wonder which of their 250 shirts they will wear for the second time ever

I’ve owned every truck on the market. No other brand compares to a TUNDRA. Strong , Steady , very reliable, never to much , always more than enough. I liked all the other brands as well. I LOVE MY TUNDRA. You should go get your new truck itch on though. We’ll see you back in no time. Celebrating your return, and maybe throwing some pretty hard jokes you way , but in the end , we will really UNDERSTAND.

We bought a new 2013 Chevy Cruze ( no silverado ) but.... it had odd chemical smells that came when you ran the a/c, the valves began rattling when you started it, at 37,000 miles, and worst of all, the car would sometimes just turn off, no reason why. You would be driving, and it was like you turned off the ignition, but you didn't. The dealer spent days, and could not figure it out.

I say keep the Tundra and do what you want with it. Coachbuilder stuff will be your friend in addition to whatever lift, BAMufflers from Dirty Deeds Industries is the king of exhaust, supercharge the sucker if you have the $$$ and want the power, and throw an LSD in the rear end if you do. Tundra won’t fail ya!

In general vehicles are a waste of money. We tend to way over spend for what is needed, yet this is the American way. That said, I like cars and have had my share of money pits. I use my Tundra to satisfy that urge to tinker...S/C, sway bars, Pro LED lights & grill etc.

If you don't need a 2500, keep the Tundra and accessorize. You don't need an 8 inch lift to run 35s.

If you buy a GM make sure you put a lift on it so you can get under it to work on it easier

I had a brand new Sierra and had a ton of issues as well. Along with the same issues listed below.

    Bad transmission
    Radiator blew up twice
    Radiator hose blew regularly
    AC compressor stopped working
Vehicle shook when gas pedal was pressed on and there was always a stall before it took off.

Visit a GM or Chevy forum and you'll see these are normal and common issues for all their trucks. I will NEVER buy GM again.

Best of luck with your decision.

I came from an HD truck that I wanted, didn’t need. Those trucks are built to work. Driving them around unloaded is not a pleasant experience as you and passengers will be tossed around in the cab as the suspension is built for heavy loads. Everything else is more expensive (tires, brakes, suspension components) because you are paying for the HD capability. I loved it the first few months then it got old driving a tank with the turning radius of an aircraft carrier. Driving the Tundra now feels like such an upgrade in comfort. At the end of the day it is your $$ so spend it on what you want/like. The only real benefit is HD trucks don’t depreciate as fast as 1/2ton trucks. That only applies to the big 3, not a Tundra’s resale. My $.02.

The people I work for actually stopped buying tahoes and other Cheby vehicles as fleet vehicles cause they were such crap. Electrical bugs a/c issues and transmission issues top the list. I'll never forget when my wife told me and bitched about me lifting my trucks and was like why do you do this!! I said cause one plain and simple fact, cause I can't do it when I'm dead. I won't be able to spend a little throw down money on anything I like when I'm 6ft under.

Obviously people on here are going to be biased and half of the people commenting have likely never even owned a diesel. I'll just tell you straight up what my experience was and I'll try to debunk what other people have been saying. I created an account just to reply to this.

I owned a 2013 Chevy 2500HD with the 6.6L Duramax before I owned my 2018 Tundra Sport. The truck was on mostly stock tires, stock level, and I got under the hood and "deleted" it myself (removed all the EGR bullcrap, DEF tank, etc.) That was a 10 hour job. I put a tuner on it and a 5" exhaust...it sounded amazing..absolutely no comparison to a gas truck. It produced around 900ish ftlb of torque and just over 500 hp.

People say it won't be a good daily driver....

I daily drove it just fine. It will drive almost exactly like a 1/2 ton truck as long as you don't get a dually. There was no difference between my Tundra and Duramax as far as daily driving or parking. My 3/4 ton actually got about 20mpg in the city (again...it was tuned).

    Do you tow bro?

I didn't either...at least not heavy (2-6k pounds a few times a year). Towing is irrelevant..you buy a truck because it's a status symbol and it makes you feel good.

    Chevy's aren't reliable...

Maybe not as reliable as a Toyota but I've owned several Chevy trucks...a 2005,2014, and of course the 2016. Never had any major problems. Had to replace a water pump and blower motor on the 2005, that's it.

    Diesels are expensive...

Yes they absolutely are. Fuel is more expensive even though you get more mileage if you delete the EGR/DEF/DPF crap. Parts are WAY more expensive. A new truck is at least 50-70k+(By the way I don't think you can tune the new Duramaxes). Tuning and deletion cost me 3k. If you push it too hard due to tuning, a new transmission will cost 5k+, injectors $4k+. If you put gas in your diesel...fuel system costs 10k+ to fix. Labor time on anything is going to be 8 hours minimum because everything is shoved in such a tiny space.

You thought a Tundra was a money pit? Diesels are the deepest money pits on the face of the Earth as far as I'm concerned. My brother in law has a 2005 3/4 Cummins and he works on that POS every single week...the truck is literally falling apart and soon all that will be left is the motor. He blew a transmission too last year...but that's Dodge for you. A huge chunk of his money goes into parts to fix it but at least he's a diesel mechanic so he doesn't pay labor.

I honestly wish I still had it over my Tundra but my Tundra gives me piece of mind which is worth a LOT of money. My 3/4 ton rode SMOOTHER that my Tundra and my old truck had stock shocks..not TRD shocks. My Tundras rear end will vibrate and oscillate on any road with slight bumps. I can see my Tundras bed bouncing in my rearview mirror. The Tundra also gets about 11mpg in town.

The Duramax would blow the doors off my Tundra. Duramax sounded better and was way more fun. Tundra beats the Duramax off-road for sure.

When I owned the Duramax I was constantly worried something was going to break even though it never did. The tunes I ran were safe but it's always in the back of your mind that you'll roast a 6k transmission. Even if it's stock you still have to worry about common things that fail on diesels....fuel pumps, injectors, EGR coolers, high pressure oil or fuel components.

I would not buy a diesel truck new..ever. They're overpriced. The new Chevy's you can't tune anyway and if you don't tune it you'll be driving a half as good truck that will likely at least have some problem with the emissions system in the time you own it (that's just the way it is with every new diesel).

I hope this helps. They're both good trucks. It may come down to it just not being worth it to cause strain on your relationship to purchase a new truck.

I have owned 5, LTZ Duramax 2500HD’s, they are good trucks. I’ve put 50-60k miles a year on them up to 180,000+ miles total. I’ve had the transmission replaced on one under warranty at 98k miles. I’ve bought them all new, for 10-12k below sticker. Great, dependable trucks. Plenty of power and fun to drive. Currently, I own Platinum Tundra, Platinum F-450 (I’ve owned 5 Powerstrokes too), LTZ 2500 Duramax and many more other vehicles. The Tundra is enjoyable and comfortable to drive. The Duramax is my work truck, powerful and dependable. The Powerstroke is the stronger built truck, if you can connect it it’ll move it. The mileage on the F-450, believe it or not, is as good as the Tundra. The Duramax is better, it’s lighter and geared higher than the Ford. I don’t think you’ll go wrong with either of your choices. They all make good and bad vehicles. The diesels will cost you more in fuel which will somewhat offset with mileage, other up keep and maintenance will be a little more. Enjoy whatever you get, it’s your hard earned money and life is short.

Don't get a diesel unless you need one. There is more required maintenance which costs more to own/drive.

My Daily is a 2015 2500 Duramax Z71, Really not a bad truck but the extra maint. blows.

Thanks everyone for chiming in. Puts things in perspective. I hate when my wife says don't be dumb and waste money. I didn't say that when she spent 400 on a purse.... hahaha

I slept on it and pretty confident I will keep my tundra. I want a big lift (6 or 8 inch), rims with 35x12.5 mud tires. I don't beat my truck so it'll be done to make me happy.

Gonna talk to my local custom shop and getter done.

I Just paid off credit cards, no debt besides truck payment which will be handled soon. I say that to drive the point that you don’t need anymore debt, all that stuff you mentioned you don’t need. Are you on a truck tv show that you need to have a new truck or have to have a lift or you’ll die? Most likely no, save money for what you want then buy it, don’t use borrowed money. It feels good when the wife says “now that our debt is taken care of you can buy what you want now”, we’ve learned our lesson.

That's another thing on my mind too. I'm close to paying off my tundra.

I am financially smart (thanks to my wife, shes brain washed me), hints to why my truck doesn't have all the mods I want.

My flaw is I get my itches to spend on self reward. This time it's a big itch :D

Felt bad for thinking about getting rid of her, gave her a bath and probably got frost bite (sarcasm but damn its cold). Officially made my mind up. I am gonna throw 6 inch lift, maybe just 295/70 tires on my TRD rims or might go with +20 offset after market rims (two I really like).

I will update my build thread after I officially place the order this week.

Hesitant on +20 offset because my paint is sick slick.... but I love the beast look the offset gives
