Thought I should give a follow up since it’s been 5k miles.

I started with a stock SR5 2013 CM 4x4 for reference. Black shocks.

I initially installed a 3/1 kit with dif drop spacers from eBay. Looked good and rode ok for my mostly on road uses at the time.

When I started started going off road more seriously, real suspension travel, I noticed a few major problems.

Lots of knocking and banging in the front end. I ignored it at first being a newb to the tundra world.

I had to CRAWL over speed bumps to keep the front suspension from maxing out and making a horrible “clunk” on full extension.

Eventually blew out some stuff and learned my expensive lesson.

I then had a new friend let me drive his TRD Pro with OEM Bilsteins through some of the same environment. This included everything from the same highways to the same trails my setup was struggling with.

I loved how “cush” it was on the highway and how ample it was off road.

I was sold at that point and set out to order the same exact setup he had. I didn’t have time to experiment with all of the other options that folks recommend on here. I loved how his TRD Bilsteins performed.

This was 2018 and the Bilsteins couldn’t be found so I decided to try the new Fox setup.

I was told by every dealership I called that the new Fox setup couldn’t be ordered Unless I had a wrecked 2019 TRD Pro that needed replacement parts.

I persisted until I found a dealership that would sell them to me.

I know lots of folks on here will say I could have bought a comparable, if not better setup for cheaper, but I didn’t have the time nor the money to experiment.

I read that the Fox setup was close to the Bilsteins in performance so when I found a dealer that was willing to play ball I ordered a set.

After install me and my buddy compared both our trucks together on the same routes.

My Foxes ride a bit smoother on the highway and speed bumps and his Bilsteins did a bit better on the off-road stuff in our opinions.

This is my opinion on stock black SR5 shocks with 3/1 kit, vs OEM TRD Pro Bilsteins, vs 2019 TRD Pro Foxes.

We were both running nitto terra grapplers on OEM wheels.

Hands down this was the best everyday mod Ive made to my CrewMax to date. Ride is so much more comfortable on the highway. My wife agrees as well.

    Worth every penny.

Thanks for the review I am considering those shocks myself and was curious about how they rode. How is the body roll in comparison to the stock shocks?

Body roll has increased slightly. It’s noticeable but not annoying.

JATO thanks for the update! Do you have a sway bar that should help with the body roll.

Just the OEM front bar. Body roll is barely noticeable to me so it’s not a problem.
