    Sweet! Good score!!

I may just have to build something like that for my brother if his “habit” continues. Having a good buddy with a milling machine and metal lathe would help a bit.

Husqvarna use to make a similar one . But it was on a ball mount ,instead of a fixed base .I’ll see if Incan find pics of it . Also, if you decide to build one , I can take pics of the bar mount area . It has to be able to clear the chain tensioner when mounting it to the fixture .
Still looking out for that brake band . Found a couple , but the sellers seemed to think they were made of gold ...

Got this given to me . It’s a 562XPG . Heated handles, so it’ll make a great lightweight winter saw .
It broke the piston ring ,which ruined the cylinder . Should be able to snag an hem P&C for$120 ,or so . 63ABC2FE-14F1-4DCA-A295-2DC71A959C53.jpg 1D238F39-7CC0-4F38-9917-7E6784A03A81.jpg88A14185-76AE-42DB-9F87-154DE52DCDC0.jpg31191153-3CED-4E0F-BB88-FACE783B6F54.jpg

Yep! This will be my third ,and lightest one . They get warm enough to feel the heat through gloved hands .

I first asked about this saw last summer (page 5). Thanks for suggestions. I haven't really touched it again until this past week.
    upload_2021-1-25_14-25-2.jpg

Sears 917.60043, though seems some David Bradley-model parts would fit.

I took out the plug over the summer and literally filled the cylinder to the top with liquid wrench. It sat like that about 5 months. It very very slowly seeped out the bottom and was collecting on doggie pee-pads that the saw was sitting on. At least something in my house knows how to use the pee-pads correctly.

    It didn't help at all.

(Side note: the chain sprocket just spins. Taking it off, it looks like the little shoes/pads underneath it (with springs) might only engage the clutch/drum when under centripetal force of engine? Not sure. Any idea? Seemed strange that it spun freely.)

The flywheel was still locked tighter than something that's locked really tight. Removed it. Started removing cylinder from the saw & that's when I verified the piston is seized. Cylinder lifts up, but piston won't come out at all. Put cylinder back on and tried reaming down on flywheel nut to get piston down, but wouldn't budge and didn't want to break the shaft or nut or something else, so didn't do that too much.

    Next steps:
I'm going to pick up some Marvel Mystery Oil at Walmart today and dump that in the plug hole (read that on some other site...arborist, I think?), leave it for a few days, apply heat from heatgun and see if that helps get it unstuck. If it works, I'll see if I can lightly hone the cylinder (if it needs it) and piston and see if I can get it running.

If that doesn't work, I'll have to replace cylinder and piston. Having a real tough time finding one. I found a cylinder on ebay (that may or may not need honing) but no piston with it. If I can't find anything else, I may pick up that one and try using it with my current piston if it's salvageable...though I've read before that mixing cylinders/pistons is not a great idea since they're worn differently.

The idea is to fix it on the cheap and not buy a completely other saw to strip it for parts. Then I'll potentially have two that don't work.

If possible, I'd like to get the piston out of cylinder w/o having to remove the connecting rod from the crankshaft. I say that, cause I tried removing the bolts from the connecting rod and it looks like they're seized on there pretty good. I was turning so hard yesterday that it felt like I was about to snap the allen wrench I was using. Figured it'd be better to just leave it as is and not risk breaking something else.

Any ideas how to get a stubborn piston out of a cylinder while it's still connected to the rod/crankshaft? Lol. Can't really pound on the top of the piston through that tiny spark plug hole. Better I just remove piston from the rod/crankshaft? Even then, then how the heck would I be able to pound that piston out of the cylinder?

Any other thoughts?? Rebuilding my Husqvarna 460's engine over the summer was my first foray into the small engine realm. This is my second. I have to admit...I'm enjoying it much more than I ever thought I would. Infinitely less stress and pressure than working on a vehicle that you depend on for transportation.

The chain spins free because that’s on the clutch side . As to the stubborn fasteners . Heat ,patience ,and a good penetrating oil is your friend . The best penetrant I’ve found is acetone and trans fluid at about 50/50 . Heat it and cool it a few times before trying to loosen the fastener . If it starts ticking you off , walk off ,and do something else . It’ll still be there when you return .. :)
and yes , try to remove it by pulling the crank and rod if nothing else works .

Well, it was kinda slow . But all this ,and a dozen chains showed up . A couple of those saws should be interesting to get back running .4D83690D-15BF-45D9-AFF3-B5AAAADF393D.jpg 185ECD8A-5310-42D9-92F3-06525FDA71BE.jpg 93DA64DB-5EC9-45B6-BD9F-241F716DD403.jpg E37A6557-2580-472F-8BBA-7E37CBA4E9B4.jpg

Just read the specs on the two Echos . The second one is a CS610 EVL . 61CC’s . It’s an opposed twin cylinder ... I had to go look at the saw to see if the specs weren’t wrong . It’s a twin . Gonna have to be extra careful not to do anything wrong on this saw . Might get pricey .

Got the 562 XPG up and running . New P&C ,cylinder AV mount ,ignition coil ,Heat control thermostat and flywheel .
Runs very well . Not bad for 300 bucks in parts and a few hours time . 9C21231C-E167-4BA9-8AE7-E68A32DDD88F.jpg

Well, got an ancient Stihl 015L in that had carb issues . Had it in the work fixture , and the case snapped at the bar mount . At first , there weren’t any decent cases that I could locate . So, bought the guy an Echo 355T in case the owner needed a running saw ,and I couldn’t repair my screw up . But, as luck would have it , I found a case . So, all I need is a few carb parts now .
Pro tip : I any of you ever split one of these , all the internal bearings are not caged ,and will attempt to leave the area as soon as they see daylight ...24A7716C-53F9-40AB-8FE2-39A0A4B59D36.jpg
