This is just to make it easier for people to differentiate between body designs. Could you imagine all the posts and questions “what year?” for general questions between 07-18’ on these sites? Drivetrain, totally agree. There has been no real change in drivetrain except adding FFV options and different shock packages.

You’re right, it’s just your opinion. Only difference is every major Tundra site separates the 07-13 from the 14-current for the very reason in paragraph above.

Gotta name it something because certain parts only fit 2014+ as a group

No matter what generation you have 1st or 2nd, you still need to know what year it is so why not just use that?

But.....the T100????..... Actually I still see a few. No doubt a decent truck for it's time. Not much aftermarket goodies....

Service dept man..."What vehicle?...OK...what year???...Ok ..4X4?? Ok..." or bring your VIN in and save some freaking time.......

Loved my T100, but unlike the Tundra - the T100 was made in Japan.

The counter guy will never punch in the VIN number from your '15 and say, oh you have a 3rd gen truck.

True, counter guy won’t say that, but a guy on line selling his stuff is likely to get more “hits” on a search going by generation than saying “2015” or “2014+” or “2014-2019” ... I still question if products will fit my 2017 when things say “2014-2016” ... some sellers of aftermarket parts haven’t updated their descriptions...

Again, I’m not attached to the “3rd Gen” classification, but I do think some sort of group name would make sense... v2.1.0 for 2014-2017 and v2.1.1 for 2018-20?? (TSS and aren’t the headlight harnesses different?) just makes things easier to sell as users don’t have to do a bunch of research before hand on “will it fit” IMO

I see a decent T100 quite often. Has a slight lift and leveled. There must be some aftermarket stuff out there for it. Always liked the T series.

My '96 V6 4WD extra cab was a sweet truck. Beefed up Alcans in the rear, and HD torsion bars up front. Side note: My regular cab Gen 2 Tundra has more interior space than the extra cab T100.

 Yeah the T100 wasn't quite a full size truck but a decent truck and the largest Toyota made up to that point. They sold enough apparently to eventually delve further into the mid-size and full truck market. Good for us!

The T100 and Gen 1 are what I call 7/8 size trucks, they paved the way for the full size Gen 2 in your Toyota showroom today.

14+ have a different transfer case. One piece of the drivetrain that’s different.

I like your description of 7/8’s. Got me thinking the 1Gens are more like 13/16’s compared to the new size. Amazing how the 1Gens have more payload.

So true Rex.. where do T100 owners go? I'm willing to assume that the "T" in T100 could be Tundra. Of course not ......but I'd be willing to help out a T100 owner here. Sh*t..we have Sequoia owners posting here. (nothing wrong with that by the way) The T100 is a truck!

What will 14+ trucks identify as when the 3rd Gen trucks are finally released?

Either we’ll call ourselves 2.5 Gen or call the new ones 4th lol. Or we could just slit our wrists.

I wonder if the 4Runner people consider the refresh that was given to the Gen 5 (which started in 2010) to be a new generation? They changed up the front end a bit, I think it was in 2013.

The 14+'s prior to the upcoming 3rd gen (?) will be known as GEN X!!!

There we go - just change the monicker:
Gen 1, gen 2, gen 3, gen III? Or gen C?

Now it’s urgent we solve this problem before we default to ritual suicide!

It's not, either by the forum-goers or by Toyota.

    2013+ 4runners are still considered 5th gen 4runners.

I figured. Why are we calling the 2014 Tundra and beyond a Gen 3, then? Really doesn't make any difference, just seems like a very similar situation. Minor cosmetic refresh and some new technology.

Maybe it’s time to make this a “generation neutral” forum and let your Tundra identify as whatever it wants to. ;) :D
