No need to pull the cab, as all the repairs were accomplished with the cab in place lol?

I guess the quality of the work is all relative to the skill set... I have friends that "can't believe I'm able to do this stuff", and then there's guys out there that would look at my work and roll their eyes and shake their heads...

    I'm somewhere in between....

Time for a minor update. I've wanted to replace the taillights for a while and finally got around to doing it.

    36A23FDE-63E7-46FD-BBF4-70EB62653135.jpg

Got these off Amazon and they're not bad. Came with the harness and bulbs. A little over 50 bucks delivered.

    26BE5824-16A5-4997-AFD2-D40432173612.jpg

Mine are, as you can see from this one, kinda rough...

    D05ECA98-14FC-4B9C-82E5-A9EF932789C9.jpg

Before installing the new lamps, I did a little hand Jujitsu and cleaned up the cavity where the housing sits. Did some paint touch up and moved to the right side.

    1635882E-C1B1-454C-8EA2-A737E0C504D2.jpg

And the finished product... Still a lot like putting lipstick on a pig, but they do look better. Good shtuff....

I got the new leather covers for the driver's seat and the arm rest, so I'll be diving into that soon.

    more to come...

I used eagle eyes on drivers side as the box was found amongst an order from 2012 that Pops had placed. Replaced his crummy spice job trailer wire harness also.

Makes good, cheap products. Nice work!

    Time for another quick update.

I finally took some time to replace the seat bottom on my driver's seat. Bought the leather replacement from an ebay seller:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/332391643125

And got a replacement arm rest as well:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/184023005118

Here's the new/old covers along with the cushion, which was in remarkably good condition.
    7BE9856D-0BCB-4EE7-9624-0A0938BD0020.jpg

And a close up of each...

    22E46B05-D902-4B87-BCAA-D3D50CC61CE0.jpg

    The old one..

    DB7D8758-0AB7-4DDB-9F1B-561F86264E75.jpg

It always amazes me how rusty the seat frames always get...

    0CC10217-59BC-480E-A0D4-68E0B2E523EA.jpg

And back in the truck.. All functions work as they should and it actually feels a little more comfortable.

    FED0DF0E-CABE-4B5C-BB4F-B3B593216CB8.jpg

I bought a cheap Hog Ring pliers set off Amazon and it worked like a charm. Super easy to use. The seams in the center of the seat cover are hog ringed to the cushion, and the sides of the cover just clip around the edge of the seat frame.

I can honestly say I'm starting to run out of things to do. Oh what a feeling....!

    August 1st update...
I was perusing Craigslist and stumbled on an ad for a set of GX470 wheels and tires, which was posted about a month ago, so I sent the guy an email, and low and behold! He still had em.

    9B639C47-148A-49B3-B511-08408078DBD1.jpg

The wheels are in decent shape. Some pitting, but I was planning on a color change anyway. The tires have a little life left in them. The spare looks unused. All have 2015 dates on them, so there's that....

    BE843726-B824-473E-8CFD-D927C4AB6E7E.jpg

Total price out the door..... 125.00 U.S. dollars.

The spare was still mounted under his GX, and he couldn't figure out how to get it out  so I had to show him. He ended up knocking 25 bucks off the asking price for my labor...

I'll mount them up tomorrow morning and see how they look.

My main reason in purchasing was to give me an alternate tire/rim size to run when I start towing. Not to mention I don't have a spare, and this really fits the bill.

Well, I got them mounted and cleaned up today. They look pretty good. The tire is smaller than what I had on there before, so the speedo is back to being accurate and the ride is much nicer with these Michelins installed.

That spare is currently just strapped in the bed, so I'll have to figure out how to mount it permanently.

Replace the Tundra/Toyota badges with Lexus to throw people off! Are those 17" wheels?

Yeah, 17s, Steve. That’s why I jumped on em. I’ll either sell the 16s with the Wildpeaks that I have now, or get some 17s and run the Wildpeaks in the winter.

    I don’t know.

I would love to come up with some badges to make this a TX470, or whatever it would be called.

That would be pretty cool.

Ah, I wish I had gone back to check this before I got mine...I bought this same one, and it was easy enough to install (and it does look great!), but I had the same problem with the brackets not fitting right. It seems that the top rails on our trucks may be thicker than others. Instead of getting longer screws, however, I modified the brackets by removing ~ 1/2" from the finger end. That way it slots higher up in the top bracket (less deflection). Sorry, no pics. TY for the recommendation. I posted mine in the "what have you done today" thread.

As long as you made it work, that's cool. It's been a great cover. Been through a boatload of car washes and no issues yet. The Velcro is still tight and keeps the cover taught around the periphery of the bed.

Those look fantastic. Did you check the rims for spacing, and offset, etc.? I may keep my eye open for a local set if they are a perfect fit/mount. Is the GX the same as the 4Runner? 265/65/17 and same rims?

Thanks Jim. I didn't check offset or Backspacing. I like to live on the edge....

I basically stuck 'em on the truck , stood back, figured they looked good and headed down to the car wash.

As far as similarities between the GX and 4Runner, I'd have to research it.

FWIW, These wheels came off a 2010 GX470, if that helps.

Time for a late summer update...

I started noticing an occasional rough idle after the truck warmed up, but had no CEL. I knew a couple of the coil packs had cracks in them from back when I did the Valve Cover Gaskets, so I figured that was probably causing the intermittent rough idle. I bought a set of replacement coils and that seems to have taken care of the rough idle.

The other problem I'm dealing with is an inoperative speedometer. I had erratic speeds being displayed for a day or two, and now I have no speed displayed at all. It will occasionally jump, but always returns to 0.

I'm guessing it's a wheel speed sensor for the ABS system. Time to start doing some research...

Beyond that, the truck has been fantastic. My wife and I used it for a weekend getaway a few weeks ago, and it performed flawlessly. What a difference from 18 months ago....

I didn't realize a bad ABS sensor would cause the speedometer to not work at all. I have issues with one sensor and my speedo still works. The only thing I get is false ABS activation.

I'm basing that off what I've read so far. It might just be the transducer in the transmission that has failed, but I've read a few reports of a WSS effecting the speedo.

    I'll hopefully diagnose this weekend.

If you have an OBD-II scan tool that's capable, you might be able to get the individual speed from each sensor along with the vehicle's speed to narrow down the problem.

That's the key. Capable.. Out of all the tools I have, the one thing I don't have is a good Scan tool. I just need to bite the bullet and pick up an Autel.

Well, I spent a couple hours playing with the speedometer today. The ABS light is on in conjunction with the inoperative speedometer. I went around the truck and cleaned all the ABS sensor connectors, went to back out of the driveway and noticed the light was off, until I put it in drive and started moving forward. ABS light immediately illuminated.
Went around the block and still no speedometer.
So, either there's a failed ABS sensor, or I got some figuring out to do.
I did pull the trigger on a nice scanner. I picked up an Autel MK808, which has gotten loads of good reviews.

I got my scanner today. Wow. Nice. I had to go through about an hour of updates, and then took it out and plugged it in to the truck. I scanned the ABS system and it came back with 2 codes.

    743A8F7A-D4B6-4EDB-AA3C-D8E39734A0E6.jpg

C0200 and C0278. I reset the ECU and it came back with just the C0200 for the right front sensor.

So, looks like I'll need to swap out the RF ABS sensor before I figure out what's going on with the speedometer.

Took it for a short drive and verified that the other 3 ABS sensors are working, but the left front doesn't start reading until about 4-5 km/h.

    E0A55C17-6BF2-4DB6-B0C6-EBCC17A3BEDC.jpg

Yes, I know I need to change some settings so it reads in Imperial units.

I'm going to swap out both front ABS sensors and we'll see what happens...

    More to come...

Just a quick update for anyone wondering, You CANNOT activate the ABS pump through the Autel MK808. Although it shows it as an option for the truck, when I attempted to access that feature, I got a message that stated the ECU was unable to perform that function.

I was wondering that, many guys have asked that question, and those who answered were correct.

I should get the new front sensors today or tomorrow, so I’ll install them on Saturday and update…

Took a gander at that scantool yesterday when you posted and was blown away and somewhat interested even tho Techstream does alot. However, at $450, I’m surprised it won’t do ABS pump

Is there any cost effective way to get Techstream for us DIY guys, though?

Back in the day I managed to get GM's factory tool for under $500 (normally $1.5k+) by buying an unbranded one from the factory that was making for GM, then selling unbranded on the side. Before the counterfeit game got so damn high.

I think it’s more of an issue with the ECU not being able to do it? Not sure honestly.

I do have an older copy of Techstream on my old laptop, and I went to use it a few days ago, but every time I open the program, I get a message that states “This version of TIS expired on 09November 2015, please update the software to reactivate”
    So, I’m pretty sure it’s kaput…

I plugged the Autel into my Volt and it reads something like 230 different sensors. That’s about 210 more than my El Cheapo scanner I’ve been using. It’s pretty cool.

Sure, but many are hesitant in trying to get the $40 cable needed and taking a chance on the free software. It’s a rabbit hole some don’t wish to explore!

Rule # 1 with Techstream, do NOT be connected to internet and let it talk to Toyota checking for updates !

There are copies out there, one of which I have, but they’re just that… Copies. Mine worked great when I first had it. I haven’t used it in probably 3 years, so when I went to use it on the truck, it was not working. Hence the new Autel unit.
