“not much in the cab” means it’ll drone.

Not necessarily true at all. Of course @dirtydeeds makes several fine options for our tunnies, but there are other options that simply do not introduce drone and low end torque loss. SpinTech offers a Sportsman muffler for example that allows for a nice sound that replaces the stock muffler while maintaining the single exhaust and uses existing plumbing.

I've been hesitant on pulling the trigger on exhaust my self but turn between the TRD exhaust or Corsa. I've looked at Bam but wondering if this straight pipe will affect anything come smog time? Or those annoying CHP checkpoints

The 10 inch DD is very quiet inside the truck but it is plenty loud on the outside

His budget system is a straight pipe, but the standard stuff has real mufflers, they are tiny, but real.

I had corsa on my silverado, corsa is absolutely top notch. Nothing beats corsa sound

Just had a black widow race venom 250, 2.5 dual in, single 3" out installed. Dumped in front of the rear tire. First start up, was surprised how quiet and mild it was. Driving through town under light throttle produced a nice tone that wouldn't bother anyone. Once you get on it and push it, it gets loud. At cruising speeds, 70-75, it wasn't noticeable. You can hear the exhaust when you have to give it some gas, but its just noise, not drone. So far, very pleased with this muffler, I definitely recommend it.

Thanks for the video and feed back. Not going to lie I was going to pull the trigger on a Corsa but I think I'm going dirty.

Good call. I would suggest hitting the bolts with WD40 or PB Blaster the night before you plan to install, and then again a few minutes before you actually install it. Also, if you decide to lube the rubber hangers I wouldn't use PB Blaster (or any penetrating oil) because it might make them swell. Whatever lube you use on the hangers, just make sure it's safe for rubber.

I've had the BA 8" on for about 6 months now. No drone at all and have put on about 10k miles. Didn't use the hemholtz as I like the sound as is.

I run the Borla XS pro, single muffler with dual IN/OUT. This isn't my truck, but the recorded sound on these is very accurate.

To be clear on the setup, I run the muffler with two individual exit pipes (just saying not merged back to a single). The exhaust shop didn't have any 2.5 inch pipe that day so I went with 2.25 inch pipe. It was very slightly too quiet, but before I had them re-do it, I decided to wait and have my tips put in. I got 18 inch long, 3.5" diameter from some website I can't recall. They were weld-on style, and the sound is perfect. It's exactly what I wanted. Nice rumble at start-up, and a smooth, deep tone during acceleration (until you hammer it to the floor, in which case it screams) but the drone is pretty minimal. I never shut the engine off and feel a sigh of relief in my skull, ya know?

Including the tips and pip work, I have $300 in the whole shebang.

I ran this muffler for a while. Its a great performance muffler, especially in place of the trd system. The internal x-pipe is nice to have and the sound isn't over bearing, but you know its there. Initially, it was extremely quiet, quieter than stock, but within a week or so, it broke in and definitely woke up. I actually wish they made a slightly smaller version of this muffler to increase the volume (make it louder). I enjoyed it, but I'm really liking my black widow right now.

    Curse you Perry the Platypus!
I went with a Magnaflow muffler swap at first trying to be all economical but the drone was the worst I've ever experienced. Even worse than Flowmaster. Blew my mind!!!! I've spoken with Keith and dude is awesome but my heart was set on the TRD exhaust. I went with TRD and absolutely love it. When it comes to these trucks, stick with either TRD or @dirtydeeds. You won't regret it!

Had the trd, wasn't a fan of it. Luckily I didn't pay for it as it came on the truck.

I agree. Mine broke in after a short period of time, and then some more over time. I think I've had it on there 9 or 10 months.

If it's anything like the catback I had on my late model mustang it'll continue to get more throaty.

One thing I like about this truck is that it sounds different than other brands with a similar exhaust. It has a bit more linear and modern sound. Has a nice rumble but very clean...if that makes any sense. I had to hear it from outside to really notice it though.

Makes sense. Plus we don’t have cylinder deactivation like GM and Ram which sounds horrible with an exhaust.

Do they actually check for mufflers at smog? Or just for no mods to the cats?

Depends on the shop. I was more concerned with CHP checkpoints really. I went ahead and pulled the trigger and ordered the 10" Bam exhaust. Can't wait to install it.

Are you talking about the CHP border checkpoints? Couldn’t see them being bothered to look for mufflers at those ones.

No. I was referring to the ones they post up in cities like commerce, DTLA, Whittier,La Mirada. They usually come up when there's been a car scene or complains about illegal street racing. I use to worry more when I drove my SS but really don't get bothered with lifted trucks unless you ask for it.
