Just got my Kenetrek Mountain Extremes after a 5 week back-order, can't wait to get these bad boys broken in but its going to take some serious miles...luckily I won't really need them to perform until November in Colorado.

Awesome! I would like to try those at some point!! Plus I’ll make a trip out of it and we will probably go to Montana and their headquarters!

Thats the way to do it! I had to find a place with those old school foot measuring devices and took pictures of all the measurements and sent them to Kenetrek, but if you can walk into HQ then you know it will be done right! Definitely spend the $10 bucks on their wax/sealant!

I use this this one now. https://www.udap.com/mm5/product/BEF . When I lived Teton country WY I used a heavier version but I also used pack horse. Now I go with the ultra light on my back

When you are spending that kind of $ on a boot you definitely want them to fit the way they are supposed to! I will say that so far they seem worth every cent, far more comfortable (even at this point of only being minimally broken in) and solid than any hunting boot I've ever tried.

    Great to hear!

I have Scarpas now and they are also very nice. Only been on a few hikes with them and nothing extreme but they are very comfortable as well!

Ive heard that about Scarpas and also about Lowas. This is my first pair of "technical boots", most of my previous hunting boots have been old school Irish Setters similar types of boots from Cabelas. Once I get these semi-broken in I'll let you know how they do on rocky hills and loose terrain.

Being an east coast guy and hunting out west the past few years, I didn’t know which boots to take with me to the mountains.

I took my kenetrek, my flat sole danners and a lightweight hiker. The mtn extremes were awesome for hiking in/out with a full pack as well as packing meat out. The lightweight were great for quick mobile events.

I haven't ever put one around my TT but I do put the fence around the base of the hanging tree in camp when I'm sleeping in the trailer. If a bear is coming into the TT its going to be dealing with 12ga slug or 220 gr underwood 10mm round

Went into Linton again and got the Leica Rangemaster 1000-R and some Kenetrek gaiters. As always, they were a pleasure to do business with!

Sixsite rain gear is on its way as well so I will update with pics of it when it arrives.

I love the UA ridge reaper line, light and durable. A little cheaper than Kuiu, Sitka and Firstlite. Danner boots and an old pair of Bensons as back ups. I have the ALPS pack for meat hauling, Bushnell Engage 10x50 binos (had the Vortex 10x42 and just not enough; Bushnell specs were the same, lifetime warranty and half the price of Vortex), and the SigSauer rangefinder. All work great. as others stated, layer. I suggest wool socks and if you're doing bow, there's a short list of other gear you may want to look into

if you're primarily bow hunting, i'd plan on getting a spare bow off craigslist. if you're bow goes down in the field, you're screwed. and make sure you're up to at least 55 lb draw weight. went pig hunting two weeks ago. suckers are tough. deer may be easier, but you'd have to get close.

Good luck on your hunt. I've only been once and bagged a cow on a draw hunt. Some things i learned was getting in shape was more important than any gear i could buy. Also i had upgraded from a basic gps to a communicator one and it was a hassle to operate. I had set a personal limit at 400 yards and practiced and trained religiously. Ended up shooting her laying down at 45 yards. One last thing i learned was to glass as much or more than you walk. I walked up onto a bedded bull and didn't see him untill he got up.

I agree. Being in shape is very important for these backcountry hunts. I do CrossFit 6-7 days a week and hike when we can.

From my research and watching guys like Remi Warren, glassing is critical.

Well after putting more miles on my Scarpas I realized I should have sized up. On descents my toes are hitting in front.

Decided to get a pair of Crispi Idaho’s. Been wearing them around the house and they are like walking on clouds so far. Great ankle support and a semi stiff foot bed which should help backpacking and hunting.

How much did those set you back? I’m in desperate need of new hunting boots and can’t decide if I should go big on a pair of Crispis, Lowas, kenetreks etc or cheap out again. I’m pretty tired of wet feet and shitty traction.

They have them on blackovis.com for $369. I joined rokslide.com and found out Black Ovis gives 10% off for members so that put them around $330 to my door plus they have a deal for a free hat with anything over $75.

I looked at Kenetreks as well but they seem heavy. I’m sure they are great boots. Crispi has the Guides that I looked at as well but ended up with the Idaho’s due to not really wanting leather. My feet get hot easy and I wanted a light boot with a solid platform.

Here is my opinion I hunt a lot in Arizona. Hunting in the west is going to be a new thing. You need good binoculars first and foremost. Swarovski if you can afford them. And if not look at the new Vortex Razor UHD line. You will want a good range finder as well. As far as navigation goes you can’t beat On X maps on your phone it shows you everything you need to know including private property and who owns it. And clothing well that’s pretty much been covered in here. Also get your self a good pack. If you have to pack a bull elk out on your back you’ll be glad you spent the money on a good pack. I would recommend Stone Glacier. And a good knife is also key look at the Havalon knives. I could go on and on but here is a start.

Like others have said; get good glass. I spend lot's of time looking thru the binos and spotting scope when hunting and scouting.

Some glass will give you a headache while other glass gives you opportunity.
