No worries man, I completely get it and am probably wrong. And frankly, gas prices have been a lot more these last couple years (not sure why….almost like something important changed). And if you’re filling up that often, it’s $800 per year - so with income tax you need to earn ~$1200.

does raptor take premium gas like TRX?

I much prefer the looks of the TRD Pro on the outside but I much prefer the interior of the ZR2. I just find the bed looks so plain and boring on ZR2 from the sides.

I wish I shared your sentiment. I nearly ordered one at launch but it just feels like such a lazy response to raptor/trx. And i was very excited when the rumors started swirling prior to launch.
Front locker and some halfway decent shocks on an otherwise lackluster platform. Obvious money grab is obvious.

The TRD Pro has always left a lot to be desired, you're better off building a TRD Off-road in any other trim depending on the level of luxury you desire. Paying for a lot of badges and color more than huge performance upgrades.

My buddy has the ZR2. Chevy seems cool until you realize the 6.2l is a pos eats oil needs a catch can but would the violate warranty. Chevy reliability is shit.

All these “modified” from dealer trucks for off-road when 90 percent of the people buying them don’t go off-road is hilarious. The TRD pro is nice for a pavement queen. However, I just can’t see how an upgraded interior and unproven reliability hybrid engine/power train along with a giant useless touch screen that is the size of a 27” TV slapped onto the dash justifies a $80k OTD price tag. Who is taking this long wheel base $80k vehicle off road at Moab?

It takes it to hit the published power and torque numbers but can easily run on 87 if you want.

I've always felt that way about the entire TRD Pro line. I don't care if they hold their value better, thats only because a bunch of people salivate over them because that is all Toyota will give them. Half the people go and swap the wheels and suspension that make them unique in the first place. Anybody can throw Fox or Kings on a random Tundra TRD OR and have essentially the same truck.

But I disagree on the ZR2. Sure, if all you do is commute then a Raptor or TRX probably works well but if you actually offroad then the extra 6+" of width is not always a good thing. And that brings us back to the ZR2, tremor and a TRD Pro. Of the three, I can tell you I'd be in the ZR2 for sure first, and then probably a Tremor with its front Torsen diff.

Actually, one of the biggest issues I have with the ZR2 is the lack of wheel well. fitting 35's is not easy which is kinda pathetic for a "halo" offroad truck.

Moab is not really where a TRX or Raptor is built for, but yes they do. Although there are plenty of high speed desert trails around moab.

Honestly the best truck for Moab is probably a Ram Powerwagon. Swaybar disconnects, solid axles and lockers front and rear.

Most would agree that many people buying these factory offroad models are not actually taking them offroad. With this in mind, I love the more powerful engines and lockers etc that those performance offroad packages come with but those particular features would be equally beneficial for people driving the more standard road going models like a TRD OR. That’s kind of why I like my current setup. I have more power and traction with some drivetrain mods with moderate offroad capability, without paying an extra 20-30k for high quality offroad suspension I don’t need and reduced hauling capacities at that.

That is something nice about the 3rd gen is you can get the top tier powertrain and rear locker without needing to step up to the Pro. I just wish the top tier engine option was closer in performance to a TRX, but that’s a big ask for Toyota of course and not going to happen.

Thats never gunna happen because an iforce max weighs nearly as much as a TRX, even with the TRX being on 35's. They need to shave 700 lbs and add some power.

I do remember one TFL truck video though where Andre's 2021 XL Powerboost gave their TRX a serious run for its money. 1000 lbs lighter than the TRX and still making full power at elevation(ford does not cut power with the 3.5L Ecoboost at altitude) and it was able to bring the power to weight ratio in really close to the TRX. The TRX pulled on it, but just barely.

There is perceived reliability, and then there is actual reliability. No doubt I trust Toyota more than Chevy from a brand perspective. That said a lot of the reliability credit we gave Toyota is from other vehicles prior to what is currently out. And if you look up, actual reliability Chevrolet, especially their trucks have come a long way. Let’s not forget of course they’re going to be more problems as they produce mass loads more trucks than Toyota does. As does Ford of course

Tremor Lariats are around 78k and the TRX is really close to $80k

Edit: I think the Power Wagons are ~10k cheaper

I saw that one. Titan<Ram<Tundra<Powerboost<TRX. Nathan driving the ecoboost jumped the start, and Andre in the TRX messed his up but still pulled it out by a length and a second quicker 0-60. Not to takeaway from the powerboost performance though compared to the price on the TRX. I’ve seen them hit 0-60 at a mile above sea level in 4.5 with the TRX in other videos. That video was a 5.6 vs the PB at 6.4. Their videos are always great entertainment for my lunch break.

You can get the Power Wagon package on the Tradesman trim and its like $61k. It has all of the parts from the actual powerwagon its just not the full powerwagon trim.

Come down and do 3 or 4 trips to baja Mexico each year and another 2 weeks of hunting in Sonora.
People seem to forget that the raptor is a dedicated tool for southwest style driving. Width is not only your friend but a necessity.
ZR2 doesn't keep up in high speed runs with raptor or trx and falls laughably behind in slow speed crawling compared to solid axle rigs. A fine all arounder but doesn't do anything great. Tremor is a fairer comparison.
My raptor came stock with 37s and turns em just fine.

I am aware. Its a tool for a pretty specific job. The ZR2 is a bit more of swiss army knife, which was my point. I don't believe I ever said a ZR2 could keep up with a Raptor in the Baja 1000. But you can't make a Raptor narrower, you can drive slower in a ZR2 if needed.

I live in Utah and spend plenty of time in the desert, but in Northern Utah its all tight forested mountain trails. Hence why I have a beat up narrow 1995 4Runner and not a $90k, ridiculously wide Raptor. If I am being honest with myself, the ZR2 is a better all around option than a Raptor(assuming actually wanna wheel a 70+k truck), and would be for pretty much anyone who doesnt live in the southwest. It would tow better, park better, fit in my garage better, etc and still be quite capable offroad.

Aren’t they 37’s standard and a winch also?

…it’s just that’s it’s a RAM though…never owned one but have/had buddies who have and the reliability was all over the place.

I can confirm the additional width you have to mindful on placement more but this thing will wheel anywhere almost.

No, 285/70R17's, same as what I have on my Lexus

But 35's are an easy fit and 37 are not to hard to fit. It already has 4.10 axles and a really deep 1st gear in the 8 speed trans so it is already kinda setup to work with them.

Love the Raptor and I agree it’s a different beast and shouldn’t even be compared to a current Tundra… would love to see the Desert Chase Tundra though

Agreed! Both the Raptor and TRX are in a completely different class of truck. Comparing the two just isn't fair. Tremor F150 for sure.

And, I guess I live on a completely remote island in the middle of the ocean because I have not seen or ever heard of anyone getting a Raptor or TRX for the MSRP prices. Even looking at the sticker MSRP prices I haven't seen a new TRX or Raptor price at $78-80k. And even if you can get lucky a Raptor or TRX at MSRP, it's total price you spend not just the base price. I mean, aren't we all spending money on vehicle tax etc? I just checked my local ford dealer price and their one and only Raptor is $86k befoe taxes. These guys go for additional $25k markup tacked on. So, $111k before taxes and doc fees. Base Raptor price on website build comes out to $86k. My coworker just got one and the local ram dealer put a $20k markup on his. Crazy, yes but he's an Air Traffic Controller, so he got the money.

Here is Hawaii, we get our Toyotas at MSRP period. No negotiation whatsoever. Take it or leave it. I just built a TRD Pro on Toyota with the extra $425 solar octane paint and came in at $71k.

I don't even know where I'm headed with this post but just wanted to present real world prices in MY Real World here locally in Hawaii. Also, I guess I wanted my shot and saying that the Raptor and TRX is not the same type of truck. But, this is only My Opinion.
