Yeah the Insider has its own type of sockets BUT couple of those pieces that comes with it is a 3/8 and 1/4 adapter that allows you to use your own sockets20241115_134304.jpg 20241115_134317.jpg

I got the 1/4" for its compact and small size. I keep that one on the truck along with all my 1/4" sockets.

3 is the minimum for a welder. Wire wheel, grinding disc, zip cut disc. I liked having 5 when I could. Wire wheel, 1/4" grind, 1/8" grind, flapper, zip cut.

Lomax cover, TRD PRO headlight conversion...so far anyway
As I previously posted in another thread, I have been looking at various wheeled boxes/storage/protable solutions for my cordless tools, which are Porter-Cable. They have served me well since I let the ex "have" my old DeWalt Ni-CAD tools; she thought she was winning but then she figured out later about the annual battery replacement part. The only issue I've seen with them is the lack of "new" tools coming out, but I can't justify a wholesale swap to a new platform either, though some of the smaller M12 tools are def on my radar. Anyway, I was leaning toward the Pack-Out (and still may go that route) but now have stumbled onto the Klein system that has a 2 drawer roller box, which I think may be the better option for what I'm trying to do. Has anyone had any experience with this set-up? Or the P-C tool line?

Oh, just to aded to the mix, I also have Ryobi yard tools, both 18v & 40v, that were given to me. Only thing I've bought is a couple of spare batteries when on sale, and a 40v string trimmer that came with a battery and charger on sale cheaper than just a battery. So far, no issues.

I'm not a big fan of Milwaukee's bits. They seen to soft and round off easily. I need to see who makes good ones. I've heard decent things about DeWalt's bits.

FWIW, wife was drunk off one drink last night so I ordered it to my advantage. Today, I told her “you said I could order more, and said just do it, so I did”

    -How much did you spend???

    “like $50’ish”

-oh, ok. Stop taking average of me if I’m drunk.

    Jokes on her. Never asked

I find the opposite to be true; they seem harder and more brittle. Most of my worn Milwaukee bits have edge damage similar to chipping rather than squishing/deforming, especially the Phillips #2. I use Square #2 (also known as Robertson #2 to you folks from the great white north) FAR more than P2; square bits are much harder to cam out - almost impossible unless the bit is worn or the fastener is damaged/misformed, whereas camming out is the default failure mode for Phillips, causing damage to the bit, fastener, or both. You can place a SQ2 fastener on the bit, then maneuver the drill/driver any which way you need and the screw won't fall off (if the bit is not too worn, and the screw is of decent quality and tolerance). I can literally point the screw at the ground and it won't fall off.

Look at the singular non-milwaukee SQ2 bit in then picture; it is softer and the flutes actually start to deform and twist in a helical pattern. That bit is either Whia, Dewalt, or some other reputable brand, with good metallurgical engineering (though I think the Whia's have a strange shoulder that makes them difficult to get out of the bit holder without pliers, so it's prolly a different brand). It's relatively new and still in service. All of those bits have been used exclusively with the Surge driver.

I've become fond of the non-milwaukee SQ2's for the simple reason that the milwaukee bits cause the fastener head to deform slightly when applying reverse torque, then stick to the bit if the fastener is removed completely from the workpiece. Makes for a comical PITA. The softer bits deform rather than the fastener, or at least cause less deformation.

Impact drivers need a decently hard bit, else you are losing energy every time the hammer and anvil go bang. Too hard, and the bit will explode; too soft and the bit deforms and strips the fastener. Most MFG's introduced a new line of impact ready bits to deal with the improved torque capacity of newer impacts. The bits below also show the difference between torque impulse from a hammer and anvil vs applied torque from a hydraulic driver like the Surge; hydraulic drivers rate FAR lower on a torque test than hammer and anvil units, but sill produce more than enough torque to drive standard fasteners that don't require a high finish torque. Most any wood screw isn't gong to require high finish torque, whereas large nut and bolts require very little fastening torque, but high finish torque.

That is exactly what I do is buy the pack out tray with bits and drivers just like this. I bought 2 of those last year and came with similar bits to that but a few more for $40 last year. Then buy 2 of these 120 bit sets for only $30. I have all the bits and drivers organized and separated in the pack out. I can carry it anywhere I go. I have enough bits to last for years and organized.

My current favorite has been the Makita bits for the PH2 that I use all the time. I’ve been using GRK brand Torx bits. They are in the HD screw aisle and are different colors for different torx sizes so it’s super easy to remember which bit to grab.
