Just got mine mounted on black rhino capstone 18x9.5 +12mm. Love them. Bumper shims, bmc, and had to use a heat gun to mold the wheel lining too after adding the westcott designs lift.

All you Baja Boss ppl can you tell me how much weight the tire shop used on each one? Also what your wheel is.....

The local Toyo mechanic is throwing a flag over how much weight is on each of my wheels and saying the tire to wheel combo isn't gonna be easy to do a quality balance on.

I don’t know the weight that was used, but my Baja Boss MTs balanced just fine. When they put them on, I asked if it was difficult to balance. They said no, not a big deal. These were installed on TRD Pro wheels

Just looked on WALMART TIRE and found the MICKEY THOMPSON available 3 days , wide variety of sizes. Bought my set of COOPER ST MAXX on this site and had delivered to local store and had great experience with mounting and balance.

Well, maintenance took longer than usual, between drinking beer and losing an impact socket it ended up getting dark outside. So ill have to get the weights for you tomorrow

I do remember seeing this on their website, you can find your tire weight and do calculations from there. My tires balanced great. My falkens never balanced rightScreenshot_20220211-184904_Samsung Internet.jpg

3rd time to balance. This time I told them to outright remove the static balance and actually do road force. The guy came over and showed me pics of the numbers. Mentioned anything under 35 was good. My toyo mechanic was at 15. :notsure:

Anyway, one tire couldn't balance out. They replaced with another and it balanced fine. We'll see.

The tire with the most balance weights on my set was 8oz for one tire.

That's an insane amount of weight. I was balking at the 5 Oz on one of mine.

The tire they replaced was at 17 Oz on their machine.

It may sound like it. But when you break it down, it's really miniscule.

    75lbs tire.
    16oz in a pound.
    75x16=1200.
    1200÷100=12oz (1%)

So it took .75% of the weight of the tire to balance it, which is below MTs already low standard. I'm happy with that.

Yeah I did the math on mine too. Did your ppl at least spread out the weight or did they do like mine did and stick it all in one spot on the outer part of the wheel?

On the one with the most weight it's on 2 sides. Half is on the inside near the spokes, and the other half is on the back side of the tire. My other tires only have it on one spot towards the spokes.

I don't know weights but mine were dog shit to balance. One of them is actually faulty and they had to get a replacement from MT

What is the tolerance I should have with regards to balancing these larger, aggressive tires? Do people live with a slight shimmy over 60mph or is there no reason a tire isn't completely balanced at all speeds?

I wanted to get these despite the higher weights. The wheel balance issue that's being reported is what drove me away.

It should only take 1% of the tires weight to balance it according to MT. My falkens never balanced out, I just lived with the shake for 2 years. After I got these I forgot how nice a smooth ride was.

Interesting. Its always easy to focus on the current but now that I think about it, I remember my Nitto Trail Grapps had a slight shimmy at speed.

For the record, I'm not even sure these do. Just with the one faulty I had that they were forced to move to the back while I wait for a replacement... I am a bit over-sensitive at the moment.

Any large AT or MT tire is prone to balance issues, it's all about luck getting a good set. My Falkens never balanced correctly. I also had a set of Toyo MTs that never balanced. Whatever large tire you decide to get, you're gonna take a gamble on balancing issues.

My buddy runs Firestone MTs exclusively. He's had 10+ sets of these tires throughout the years, and 1 one of those sets never balanced right. He had them replaced.

You can talk to 10 different guys who have all run the same set of tires, and more than likely find one person who didn't like them due to balancing issues, etc, but the other 9 will say they're a great tire.

These Mickey Thompsons have balanced better than any other large tire I've ever ran. So take that for what's it worth

Do you have another tundra buddy you can swap tires with to see if the shimmy is still present?

Did they give you a timeliness on the replacement tire?

This may be but it seems like this is a frequent complaint about these tires. I'd rather go with something with little to no complaints so I'm not risking my time resolving someone else's mistake. I haven't had a lot of experience with light truck tires but the experience I had with Toyo RT's has been good. I'd hate to waste precious time cause a company can't QA their products. I mean you spend money and have to go back to resolve an issue that should be caught by QA. That's just my take.
