Yeah I just spent all morning at Discount Tire today. Took it there to balance for the third time since I purchased in Feb (with Method 701's). Left there to drive down the highway, balance was better, but vibration was still there between 55-70 mph. Turned around and went back... told them it still wasnt right. They did it again, told me it was done, drove the same loop... vibration is STILL there. Went back and talked to the manager. He said "it's probably not the tire... toyotas are the most finicky cars on the planet". Hadn't heard that one before.

Anyway, he said to drive them for a couple thousand miles to let them wear evenly on the correct balance. Also said if you run your hand across the tread it felt rough in one direction compared to the other on the front passenger tire.

I'm gonna drive them for a bit and see if they smooth out. If not, I'm going to ask for a new set of Nittos and never go back to BFG's.

Made the decision this morning that I'm not f'n around with those BFG's for longer than I have to. Called discount this morning and told them I want the Nittos to replace them. Should have them next week.

Another member on here recommended them. Unfortunately Sam’s Club doesn’t care them.

After this experience with BFG, I won’t go back to them.

I will go wildpeaks or Nitto for my next tires. Unfortunately, that won’t be for like 10 years or if dry rot happens. I don’t drive my truck but 3-5 thousand miles per year.

For what it’s worth I had icon 6 speeds with KO2s. Never could get them balanced. It took several tries across 3 different places and the finally found the slightest imperfection with one wheel. Switched to Fuel Vectors and problem solved.

The guy at Discount this morning told me the store that installed the KO2's (another discount tire) put on the wrong lug nuts for those Methods, and that could be it. So who the hell knows. They're putting on the "correct" lugs and swapping the KO2's for Nitto Terra Grappler. :notsure:

so the lesson learned is ko2s are hard to balance? I also run KO2s and found the similar problems, adjusted tire pressure helps too, there seems to be a perfect psi number to not cause any highway speed shake. As much as I love my KO2s, I am going to get a different set of tires next when these wear out.

Thought that might be it. The guys at Sam’s club did anyway. I ordered ex lugs from method the same time as the rims. Method had me text them a pic of the lugs and said I did indeed get the right ones.

The guys at Sam’s club said they thought the extended lug wall was thin for a lug nut.

What is the correct PSI? I run mine at 50 PSI. I filled when it was exactly 70 degrees out and the tires were cold.

I found for my truck setup, about 800lbs over curb weight, I get a smooth ride at around 38-42psi. YMMV tho.

Yeah they said the new lugs have a longer shank that helps the wheel center on the studs. Here's the new ones on the right.

I've also heard before that Toyota are sensitive to balance. Especially midsize vehicles.

I think it's BS about driving to make balance better..

Try a different Discount Tire location if you can. They shouldnt charge you.
Not sure if it was the machine or the people but having different shop/location do the balance is what finally fixed the steering wheel shake on my 4Runner after just dealing and trying 3 times at the first shop over the span of a year.
