I’m in the process of installing a 10” MaxModular/ KB Voodoo rack. I want to keep my OEM tonneau so they suggested a NO DRILL CLIP for attaching the rack to the truck bed.

There were no instructions found in the boxes on how to use this type of attachment nor any can be found on their website.

Can anyone tell me if my assembly of the supplies tonneau compatible bracket is correct. Please note that the rack is upside down and the white paper is where the truck bed “lip” will attach to.

It seems the entire rack will be suspended by about 2 inches and the entire load weight will be on a single bolt for each leg. Is my assembly correct? Can this type of setup support the load of a RTT and its occupants?

    * excuse the dirty hands. These anti seize lubricant sure gets everywhere

If I get a winch on my 2WD, can I overland with the BASTRDs and SGU?!
Yep, worst instructions ever. I don't have a tonneau cover but, based on my "no clip" attachments, I think it goes like this:IMG_7573.jpg

If so, I'm not loving the idea of that weight distribution, but I don't think it's resting on the bolts, but probably on the top edges of those tonneau clips. Give me second to further mod my picture.

    Edit:IMG_7573.jpg

The blue circle is trying to draw your attention to the top edge of that clip which, I imagine, should sit flush along the inside corner of the outside square of the base of the rack support. It's hard to be exact in my drawing owing to the angle of your photo.

... and my fairly limited drawing abilities.

(Also, I don't have the as-good-as-a-draftsman artistic abilities of @joonbug. That guy could probably draw it and, as depicted, your rack would climb itself up onto your truck!)
I hope someone else with this set-up chimes in, maybe @Porschetech29....

Thanks @Sunnier ! It seems that I’m on the right track. The rack’s load capacity will be compromised by these suspended clips. I have some concern carrying load but I have great concern using a RTT with my family in it on these clips and on a single bolt.

I’ll still be there tomorrow to pick up but it won’t be used until I figure out a better attachment method.

@rmvcard0303 I have the same NO DRILL CLIPS to attach mine, but I don't have a tonneau cover. I'll show you mine, rack on the truck, in case it helps you see what's different about yours. Back in a few to add pic.

Checking in from Sedona. Here is mine, rack and tent have been on the truck full time for almost 2 years. I have not had any issues with the brackets.

Posted so you can see how the NO CLIP ATTACHMENT fits around the lip.

Also, I would feel a ton of relief, based on Francis' report about no problems in 2 years. His RTT isn't as heavy but his truck is a built 2nd gen he drives off-road to extremes you don't currently plan to do. Just saying, that both surprises me ('cause I see what you see with those tonneau brackets) and reassures me. Also makes me more sure you need to sink those brackets up really tightly- that it's the brackets wedged against each other that support the weight, and the bolts just keep them wedged together tightly. I think (hope) thats how it is. Keep me posted when you get that far.

I wonder what @Pinay's doing right now?

Thank you Francis for taking the time responding; and more importantly the reassurance that these clips will hold.

Thanks Sunnier for all the photos and directions to get this done. I really think the MaxModular/ Voodoo rack should take less than 3 hours to assemble and install. Due to the extremely poor instructions, lack of proper labeling, missing parts, and relatively useless 1 liner emails from Chad for his version of customer service, this project has taken well over a day and still ongoing.

I’m still in the process of tracking down five 1/4x20x3/4” SS carriage bolts to attach the clips to the legs. It needs 18 bolts but I only have 13 from Voodoo (not enough sent). I’ve been to two HDs and 1 Lowes and still searching. I may have to modify if I can’t quickly find

This was my first choice but after reaching out to Voodoo for a customer service contact number but was quickly dispatched, I decided to go with another manufacturer. My wife knew I preferred this rack so the family decided to give it to me for Father’s Day and she convinced me to give the fabricator a chance.

My worries came to a fruition. There’s got to be a reason why a business doesn’t have a phone number listed on their website and refuses to give one even if you ask for it. Chad answers eventually answers emails but they are 1 liners with no explanation and practically useless.

I don’t regret buying this rack. It is a very nice rack. It’s just disappointing that the company doesn’t have the proper documentation and customer service that the product deserves. This led to frustration and much wasted time.

Thanks again @Sunnier , @Porschetech29 and @Pinay for all the help on this. You guys are awesome and lunch on me when we get the opportunity.

Exactly my experience, except I communicated with Chad via PM's on this forum, even though he tried repeatedly to get me over to email. I never put him on blast but it was the single most-challenging-thing-that-should-not-have-been, in my experience.

I took step by step photos, planning to do an install thread to help others not go through this... but haven't posted because, frankly, as much as I'd like to help my forum community, I haven't brought myself to commit even more time than the hours I did, to promote sales. Maybe Chad should do this.

Anyway, I do want to add, for anyone reading along and thinking about buying this rack: the product is awesome once it's finally assembled!

The customer service isn't bad, and Chad is not a bad guy. It's just that his priorities likely will not line up with yours regarding time and your trip plans. I had missing fasteners too, and found what I needed at Home Depot. The components come in multiple shipments from at least 3 sources around the U.S. (so no final Q.C. by Chad before shipping). I had received a steel part that wasn't "true" and, although he first suggested I make it work by pounding it with a hammer, Chad sent me a replacement. When I found one of the sides sustained minor damage in shipping, he sent a replacement.

As Ray said, the baggies of fasteners are labeled differently than on the instructions diagram. I had friends with better visual-spacial abilities come help me "see" how it goes together, because the instructions are pretty much a black and white, copied-many-times image of the completed rack, along with 'assemble upside down; make it look like this'. It me a couple of weeks, owing to missing/ damaged bits + life being busy. :angrygirl:

But the finished product is well-designed, lightweight, awesome!

I’m lucky that I wasn’t missing parts. And the install was not easy!! I put the bars on the wrong order and had to find a way to slide the washer in the channel and lining it up oh so just right!! o_O

But I DO love the rack!!! Anyone in SoCal need help, lemme know!!

I agree. I took a ton of photos as well on what and what not to do. I mentioned this to Chad but I thought I’d be doing something that he should’ve done in the first place.

My comments were about company’s customer support and definitely not about Chad as a person. Buying and receiving experience were actually good. We were well informed via email that the order was received and when it was shipped. Installation support is just not where it should be for such a nice product.

I’d definitely buy this product again ... since I know how to assemble it.

I knew what you meant, and agree. In my case, I only got one tracking number, so I was very confused by that small heavy box of fasteners that arrived first. Anyway, like you, I love the product once assembled. So between us, I'd say we've given perpspective buyers a pretty good idea about what they can expect.

You moving ahead with the plan this morning?
