No lockers on the Tundra for 20 years but they'll put them on a Lexus to ensure the trophy wives can get to the mall in all conditions.

If Toyota dumps the V8 they can call the new Tundra the Toyota Snowflake.:(

I agree that the 5.7 is probably going away. When the time comes to replace my Tundra I’ll probably get an F-250. That still a while away for me though

I almost got one this time but I wanted the new 7.3 liter and I will never buy a first year motor design especially from Ford. So I bought the Tundra. This is my second one and the V8 is the reason I bought it. Love this motor. After this it may just be that Ford Godzilla motor if it's still around by the time this Tundra gets sold.

I heard a rumor that their putting in TTV8 4.6L in the new gen tundra. Why would toyota get rid of the v8 when no one has??? Ram trx hellcat/ ford 5.0/ chevy 6.2 LS/ ram hemi. They could get rid of the 5.7 and make a new engine like the TTV8 close to 480hp. Or they could keep 5.7 and add 10 speed transmission, mutli fuel injected, with upgrade ignition and make 430hp/25mpg

I don't think Toyota will totally abandon the V8 on the get go but they will likely come at a premium.

Honestly..... I think the small turbo engines are a fad and can see a shift away from them. As technology evolves, a V8 can achieve the same fuel mileage as a small displacement turbo charged vehicle.

Secondly, as soon as you start towing and working these turbo engines there is no advantage to them from a mileage stand point. In fact they usually get a little worse. With that being said, the truck buying demographics has completely changed and I would venture to say 85% of trucks purchased will never hook to a trailer.

If you look at Ford, they are in dire straights and hurting like they never have before. Gotten rid of their car line besides Mustang and probably the worse shape financially right now of any manufacturer. I am a real financial geek and look at financials and follow a lot of big corporations and there in trouble. I listened to some of their execs a few months ago and they said warranty cost and claims are absolutely hurting them. A lot of that if you can dig through the weeds is attributed to the Ecoboosts and their truck line. More complex than ever. It is really hurting Ford.

I am not sure these are really a long term solution.....

I have mentioned in many forums before they we have a good number of 1500 Denalis for our project managers and a good bit of F150's also for daily transportation at work. We have thousands of miles on these trucks and the Ford costs is astronomical compared to the 5.3 and 6.2 Denalis. 5.0 Ford has also went backwards in the last couple years. We had a Ford F-150 Lariat with the 5.0 a few months ago throw rods with 70k mikes with no warning.....

One other thing to note is the 5.3 and 6.2 Denali are getting the same or most times better fuel mileage than the Fords. We have some that our Ecoboosts 2.7 and 3.5 and a couple 5.0s. The Denalis are used in the exact same manor as Fords and none of the 1/2 tons have ever seen a trailer. Used for Superintendents and Project Managers to drive job site to site.

Based off my experiences, all my in-laws who are die hard Fords, and the 1,000,000 plus miles we put on them at work, there is zero advantage in going with the v6 turbo platform.

All of these trucks over there life are within .8 miles of my Tundra which as of today has 39,242 miles. I have averaged 15.7 since the day I bought my truck verified with Fuelly. None of the Ford or Denali's are 17+ miles over their life.....

However, if there is one manufacturer that can actually make a TT V6 work, it is for sure Toyota.

I would do a diesel conversion in my current truck before I would not have a v8.

Pretty much followed from what a employee of Toyota's Bodine HQ plant near where I live, there are no V8 dies for the 2021 year which has been delayed due to COVID-19.

As someone who was just short of a die-hard Ford fan right up until I bought my Toyota....one of the best posts in this thread. All things equal, I'd take a V8 over a TT for towing any day of the week. I had a '13 F150 with the 5.0, and while I had no issues with it, it's definitely gone backwards recently. There's a reason why, while the other manufacturers are getting away from just plain V8s, they're not going with the exact same Ecoboost cookie-cutter solution.

GM seems to shoot themselves in the foot with every new generation of trucks, though. They keep making them bigger and taller then have to come up with crazier and crazier ways to squeeze more fuel economy out of the engines just to keep the same numbers year over year. I'd be interested to see what kind of economy you could get if you put a 5.3L V8 with DFM & auto stop and a 10 speed into a mid 90s Silverado.

I would also add that spending $900 billion on electrification has not helped Fords bottom line either.

An I believe the small turbo engines are here to stay until full electrification happens. An also feel the hybrid is the ultimate solution. An Toyota has just about perfected it.

Would be amazing if they put a TT V8 in it. Don’t think they will do it. Toyota has lost its passion. Toyota 86 is a Subaru. Supra is a BMW. They put a minivan engine in the Tacoma and didn’t bother to change the chassis in 2016.

The 86 (Scion FRS) was a joint effort between Subaru and Toyota. It was a known thing before it came out, and IIRC Toyota has something like a 10% stake in Subaru. It's not like collaborations are some kind of heretical betrayal.
As much as I love a V8, the few passionate buyers are not what keep companies in business. The general public buyers are, so it's just normal business to cater to what will move the most inventory. I agree that it's sad to see all this push for MPG and tech outweighing reliability and consistent performance, but that's the nature of things right now. Everyone wants to think they are saving the world by getting a few more MPG, and that is what is driving a huge amount of vehicle sales. Uneducated/lazy buyers eat up the borderline deceptive marketing practices and you wind up with the current trends in vehicles. All they have to do is claim X number for Y stat on the vehicles and those uneducated/lazy buyers are throwing money at them. Combine that with increasingly hipster priorities from all the formerly reputable vehicle reviewing sources, and you slowly erode the truly important aspects of vehicles and end up with lots of pretty numbers on paper and a lot of shop visits in reality.

    Just my opinion.

If I were buying a (cheap) fun car, the 86 would be one of my first choices.

Up to 16% now. Good company Subaru. (Fuji Heavy Industries.)

"Subaru is on a roll these days. It set new annual sales records for 10 consecutive years, and its success is even more impressive when you consider it remains an independent company, though Toyota owns a 16% stake in it. The two partners notably co-produce the 86/BRZ twins, and the Crosstrek Hybrid uses Toyota-sourced technology. Looking ahead, Toyota and Subaru plan to co-develop an electric crossover tentatively due out halfway through the 2020s."

Ram will still have a V8 in their half tons in that time period in fact the Ram Rebel TRX will have a supercharged Hellcat V8 in it coming out supposedly this year. GM appears that it will do the same probably with mild hybrids like the Ram has now and cylinder deactivations as well as 8-10 speed transmissions. No idea with Ford or Toyota. The Big 3 Muscle cars will still have a V8 especially for example the Camaro LT1 and SS with the 6.2L V8 and 10 speed get up to 27 mpg highway according to the window sticker on those cars. EDIT: All the HD trucks will maintain V8s as well and Ford just came out with a 7.3L V8 and GM has a new Gas V8 in their HD trucks as well.

I guess it's cheaper to get 1 mpg less than to replace all your lifters every 100k miles.
