Actually I'm crying because I'm in Florida. Florida blows. Well except Miami. But I'm not in Miami.

It must be pretty boring out there in NE CO. Joking of course Zach. I'm going to blatently copy, rip off Brian, (@csuviper). I really liked the new ToyTec shackles that he installed on his RWarrior. They appear to be superior compared to what is out there as far as material/build quality and they are on sale. +Tundras.com discount. My boss was kind enough to let me get off early tomorrow so I can drive up to ToyTec and pick up the new shackles (with lower bushings). I should be able to get them installed (with a "little" help from my son) by tomorrow afternoon. I've had shackles on my "need to get" list. Glad I waited. I need about 3/4" inch to restore some decent rake. A little rake doesn't hurt, especially if you load up your truck/tow occasionally. I really hate the low sag look with only 200lbs in the rear. These shackles will give you a minimum of 1" which is fine. Thanks to Brian...:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

(Oh, It didn't hurt that our calibration services division did quite well "year over year". BONUS!!)

You're not entirely wrong lol. I can take the boredom over being stuck in a big city though, Greeley is about the biggest I could tolerate living in now.

A thought that just came to mind, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong in my equation here: Taller shackles preload the rear springs, so I would think you'd lose some of the added ride height off of Dakars (or any other leafs that increase ride height). Am I right in that assumption, or would it not be smart to have taller leafs with taller shackles?

You are correct. The springs will be preloaded somewhat with these shackles but not much. There is always a tradeoff. Dakars are still on my list. I still want them to complete my OME setup. I won't actually know how final setup will be until it happens. Only one way to find out.

(I was raised on a small 72 acre ranch/farm in Oregon as a kid. 'boredom" over city life any day.)

So would you think you'd only lose like .5-1" when combining shackles and taller leafs, or would it be a lot less than that? And would there be any reason to worry about damage to the truck when combining the two components?

I don't see any potential damage. We are only talking about 1" lift with the shackles. The Dakars will give me 1" lift like I have now with my AAL. So even with the Dakars I still need the shackles to regain some rake.

Fair enough! They should give ya plenty since they're advertised as adding 2.5".

2.5" would be more than enough with the Dakars. It may be awhile before I spend the scratch to get them. I certainly don't need 3.5" overall for sure. Who knows, the new shackle setup may work out quite well in combo with my current leaf setup and I may leave it as is. Got to start somewhere..

True true. The Icon leaf expansion may not be a bad idea since it only adds 1.5".

So many options/ways to go about it. Good news is that I'll be the Guinea pig with my current setup and it's not costing me a small fortune.

Well, I just got back from ToyTec. Thanks to David at ToyTec for all the help and Brian for the inspiration..heh...heh. Got me some swag. Total for Shackles, bushings, and D shackle (including Tundras.com discount) was $174. Not bad at all.

I'm not too concerned at all. Not a big deal to me.The bushings are high quality. Hardware is grade 8. Shackles are zinc plated. My OEM shackles aren't greasable either, 9 years old, never squeaked and OEM bushings/fasteners don't really show any wear or rust at all. I could order a greasable bushing set if I really thought I needed them but I don't. Not much humidity or mud bogs at this altitude. Not to mention a few shots of Permatex silicon spray lubricant that I do every so often doesn't hurt. Takes a couple of seconds. I use it on my leafs too with positive results so far. It's all good. I might add the poly bushings ToyTec sells look indentical to the ones supplied with CB's.

I guess I have got to the point if they make a grease fitting I'm jumping on board anymore. One thing my Tacoma needs more of grease fittings along with the tundra.

At least you actually take the time to grease. It's amazing how many people don't.. When I lived in Oregon where it can get kind of wet, I was doing the full lube job often because in that climate grease doesn't stick around too long at all. A real pain.

Even if I don't drive the truck I still get under it and confirm its got grease. Why I love my cordless grease gun.

Shackles installed. 3.5 HRs (I'm old). Main thing is to setup rear on jack stands. Use a floor jack to raise/lower pumpkin to desired level to take tension off shackles. Once the OEM's are off, use floor jack to lower pumpkin to desired spacing for new shackles. Bolt on, torque to 90 ft lbs, drink beer. (notice the total lack of rust, other than some surface rust on back of chrome bumper? 9 yrs old, dry climate)

Gained 1" inch as advertised at 1" setting. I now have more clearance and restored some rake. Perfect for me. All is good. Test drive was good. All ready for next weekend. Medano Pass. Maybe.

As some of you know I'm not big on any "junk science" ever. I hate anecdotal "truths". I never, ever said that I wouldn't ever bring out my "Rolling Rock" science card:

I am seriously tired now. ToyTec is the best. I can't imagine that there are better shackles out there. No offense to anyone. Just fact. IMHO.

I might add, I finally turned over 66K miles today. Next weekend (4 days) will most likely add 600+. Fun miles. (By the way, these shackles are on sale now and you can get a Tundras.com discount on top of that. Don't procrastinate if you are thinking about going the shackle lift route. You won't regret it.) I'm 60 years old and did it myself. OOOh Rahhhhhh!!! :mudding:

Good work Matt. Looks good. Took up the sag from the weight of the topper. How was pressing out the bushings?

PB Blaster again. Sprayed both and after about 20 minutes or so I was able to use my ball peen to knock them out. Wasn't too pretty but worked. Don't really care to do it again. Once you start you have to figure out how to complete.. Crazy, but passenger shackle /bushings were fairly easy to remove. The driver side almost gave me a stroke. The passenger side OEM shackle bolts and the top bolt on the drivers side OEM shackle still had the white anti seize on the threads, at 9 yrs. Unfortunately the drivers lower was froze/rusted to the bushing bolt guide (?) . That was another half hour of dicking around getting that resolved.Go figure...:censored: No doubt this would be easier on a new Tundra.
