    Colorado Gator Farm is pretty kuul. That part of San Luis Valley is geothermal. The gators will crawl out of the holding ponds on a sunny winter day and sunbathe on the snow....ha!

    Last Sunday I asked and got permission to get access to an old gold mine on my friend's property. Dated back to 1878. Located at 10,600 ft off a somewhat dicey FS road that ends and turns into a private heavily trail cam covered access road onto the property with a locked gate that I have the combo to. I already have permission to hunt and camp but I've shied away from actually getting permission to collect and keep high quality mineral specimens. The attached pictures show various Mica veins a up to a foot thick! The mine is on a knob covered with quartz. Lots of quartz of various sizes and colors impregnated with beautiful Mica crystals. I collected a bucket full of nice specimens. Kuul beans......

    Skunked today. Grouse still spooked a bit. None flushed up. Headed over to Clear Creek not far from the old Stanley Gold Mine and stamp mill to let Manny cool off. I noticed a lot of black sand in a shallower eddy with fast enough flow to try out my new sluice. The old timers didn't get all the placer gold. It's constantly getting washed down into Clear Creek after snow melt runoff and after heavy summer monsoons.

    First time using my sluice. Not as easy as you would think. Fluid dynamics and proper angle for the sluice to give the desired results. Must have done something right this morning......got home and still panning the cleanup. Not bad for day one.......I use a magnet to remove the black/iron sand... gold is left in the pan.
