    Hit the Reservoir today. Water level lowered. Went to my usual spot and found some small decent various varieties of petrified wood and a couple more 50 cal rounds. Went to another area where I've found larger pieces. SCORE! Nice specimens. Had to dig them out. Barely showing in the wet sand. One piece weighs 11 lbs. The base of a palm. 65+ million years old at least. Another piece of sycamore still has some of the outer bark which is rare in this area.

    Went back. Yesterday's haul. All found about 6 inches deep in one small area around 6' X 5'. Headed back out now.

    Went back to the same spot. Score! I'm certain I found a narrow ancient stream bed. A lot of overburden was removed on the north side of the Reservoir when it was constructed. Prolly 40 feet easy. With the water level purposely lowered I'm able to get to a "place" where the overburden is gone to allow me a short window to dig up this fossilized wood that's 6" + deep under the silt mud crap. After I found this find, my back and knees were starting to give out. Manny wanted to ride his bike. I told Manny, "Let's go to the south side of the Reservoir to ride your bike." I've never hunted for p wood there. After about a mile I told Manny to freaking stop. I'M WALKING AND TIRED. HA! I wanted to check out the south beach area. Very little overburden was removed on the south side. The shallow side opposite from the dam. Maybe a few feet. No rocks of any kind exposed. Silt/mud crap. Found two 50 cal bullets and........one item that caught my eye. Totally out of place. An early native scraper! Small, but has human made oclusions, the same tell tail signs on the scrapers that I've found on my property in San Luis Valley. Totally out of place. No reason for it to be where I found it. Taking it to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science next time I go to get it checked out.

    Today's haul was 18.9 lbs. You're allowed 25lbs of p wood per day in CO on public land. I didn't weigh yesterday's haul.....prolly under 25....

    Manny and I went back to my "spot" at the Reservoir. My spot is now 6" under water! The powers that be that control the damn dam outflow are now filling the Reservoir back up. Shoes and socks off time. Found some smaller pieces at my "spot" that I missed last Monday. Waded around nearby in about 2' of water and felt something big underneath my feet a few inches down about 10' away. SCORE! One large piece and an even larger section of a log! Was in 2 pieces. The first pic is just after we dug them out. The log sections still covered with silt mud crap. There's at least one more section missing. Going wading again tomorrow to find it while I still can.

    Manny and I hit the Reservoir again this morning. Water level even higher. After combing around finding small pieces on the "beach", I decided to wade in and look around. Score! Found another large piece and a smaller piece that was not only agatized but opalized too. The largest single section I've ever found there unless the water level gets purposely lowered again. F^^king cold this morning wading around,, but you got to do what you want to do.

    Decided to semi- retire my 16 year old Little Chief smoker. Beef/bison jerky and lightly smoked Tillamook extra sharp cheddar only from here on out. Picked up a top load Big Chief smoker. Still made in Orygun after all these years.The Big Chief is ideal for smoking fish, especially salmon. Can hold up to 50 lbs. Will only use it to smoke fish. Bought a pack of 5 non stick drying/smoking screens that lay on each rack. Dish washable which is a plus. I'm thawing out several Copper River fall "Silver" salmon fillets that I had in my chest freezer. "Reds", sockeye's, will be running soon up in the Kenai River. Going to have my friend overnight some fresh caught Red's as soon as they hit the river and some giant Ninilchik razor clams which are great smoked or used in to die for chowder. Will be pricey, but Red's are the best to smoke. Better than King's. I make some awesome smoked Red dip and northwest style clam chowder. Copper River salmon is the best but Kenai Red's don't suck. I'm saving up for a trip to catch some myself again. Will take Manny of course. Early bucket list event for him. Ha!

    Went to a new spot to find p wood. Got info from a rock and mineral shop owner. Smaller pieces but quite nice. Found an iron stone. Easy to tell because it's rusty looking. Heavy and full of iron. Fe. Found a freaking crystal! Worse for wear. Totally out of place. These are found way high up in the mountains in pockets that aren't exactly easy to locate. It changes colors depending how light hits it. Kuul beans...

    Hit up a new p wood spot this morning. An old deposit of the Platte River. The river has changed course a few times over a few thousand years or more. A bonus was finding a scraper and a nice quartz specimen.

    Snow melted quickly. We went back out rockhounding. Found a bunch more p wood at an old stream bed of the Platte again. About a mile from it's current location. Also found some nice ironstone pieces. Manny found a nice clear rare quartz specimen. Damn nice actually. I found two nice peices of petrified palm and one rare specimen of Opalized petrified wood. Very nice and quite rare......

    Had another great rockhounding day today. Found another nice specimen of palm and another unidentified peice of petrified wood I need to get classified. Some more weird ironstone. A couple pans of miscellaneous agates, jasper, chert, and other rocks. Won't be going back out for a bit. Heading down to my off grid 5 acres early Friday morning. Back sometime Monday. I might add an extra day. Hope to find some more arrowheads and such.......

    Nissan sold over 22,000 new gen Frontier's the first quarter. 107.8% year over year sales. Damn good actually since the previous gen Frontier was long in the tooth. It's quite popular and has a better power train than the current Taco. I've had so many folks come up to me and say how kuul this this new Frontier is. No regrets here!

    Yep....and 9 speed Mercedes auto transmission built under license by Nissan in Japan. Rock solid transfercase built in Canada. Actually Michigan. Canadian company. Dana 44 rearend. Tough as nails little truck.
