Magnuson doesn't recommend using the unichip, plus, it's not CARB approved. Since I live in the most restrictive & regulated state, I opted to wait until this tune became available.

They are honestly not that difficult to install. Go slow mark wires and parts, and drink beer( at a slower pace).

No, easier install on Flex Fuel trucks. No need to drop the fuel tank or change injectors as you do with the non flex fuel trucks.

No you should be ok, I did check the Magnuson site and they just have 07 to 18 with no mention of flex but a check @ Sparks Parts it did come up available for 2018+ flex and non flex.

If you know or or have a buddy that is ASE Certified mechanic he could certify the install.

Well, just received a call from Magnuson, and was told since CARB approval is still pending for California, they wont be able to send out the new SC to me, or anyone who ordered in CA.

They're going to call back with more details.

I just received the call as well, no CARB approval yet. So sad. I’ll continue being patient.. and slow.

Can you have it shipped to someone else (across state line) and then pick it up from them? Or will CA shops not want to install it w/o the CARB approval either? That sucks. Hopefully they get it cleared up quickly for you.

I think it's mainly the whole official process of the stricked CARB Certification here. I believe Magnuson definitely wouldn't warranty the SC, along with not being able to register the vehicle when Emission Control checks come into play; which can include fines, especially where I live.

When I lived in Washington State, I had all sorts of goodies on my Tacoma LC engineering kit, had a "shall issue" CCW, too. No red tape..

    I'll be patiently waiting.

    Just a FYI
If you order through Sparks Toyota, "MAGNUSON" & "SUPERCHARGED" will NOT be etched on the top.
It will say "Tvs1900" and "supercharged by Sparks parts"
VERY dumb IMO. I found out too late and wish I bought it from Magnuson directly. The difference in price is only about $300. I would not have gone through Sparks if I had known it was going to be that way. I was actually quite furious that they didn't say anything when I called to order it. Like " hey, just so you know your supercharger will not look like the picture, it will look generic and not original to the Magnuson SC.

Here's the real deal... What I thought I was getting.

    Screenshot_20180614-142015~2.jpg

And here's the shit-toast, ballsweat version that I ended up with. I was not able to swap it out because it had been opened, the top of the engine had already been taken apart and I couldn't leave my truck all blown apart for 2-3 weeks. I would have had to buy another one from Magnuson, and then return this one to Sparks and hope they actually would refund me.
    14085~4.jpg

So, just beware. If you are spending this amount of money.... Know what you are getting. I was so concerned about getting the 5% discount and assumed they were all the same. Sparks has them etched for their in house installs, but ships them out anyway to "advertise". Fucking Bullshit if you ask me. I'm just OCD and I never like looking at my SC because it's a generic rebrand versus a "Magnuson" factory fresh unit.

Don't get me wrong, there is NO difference in the SC itself other than the horseshit relabeling cock jiz that is etched into mine.

    I hate it.

Spend the extra $300 and get the real deal. You can then open your hood with pride instead of embarrassment.

Can you order a new top plate from Magnuson to swap over? I would assume they'd be designed to bolt right up...can't imagine they would engineer it differently just for Sparks, but ya never know.

The top plate is integral to the cooling system and will void any warranty if opened. I asked and tried and tried and tried, but no.

Sparks does so much volume with the SC that they got their own etching.

Would it still void the warranty if installed by one of their preferred installers?...That doesn't make sense, but then again they decide the rules.

So, to all the folks who live outside California, and who purchased, or planning to purchase one for your 2018, let us know what you think after the installation. We're standing by :hattip:

According to Magnuson, if any part of the SC is tampered with, they will not warranty it. Only to be serviced at Magnuson. Any ASE certified shop, can install the SC and it be covered under warranty. But the 36k mile warranty starts at zero on the odometer. If you have 37k miles on your truck, there is NO WARRANTY.

I've sorta been doing that, have 3K on my 2018. I usually drive my commuter car to keep the mileage low.

Nice brother. I’m almost at 5k for my first oil change. I have a Silverado 1500 to drive as a work truck, but always somehow end up in the Tundra.

This was my solution for the debacle...

    IMG_20180721_135532.jpg

A TRD plate and Range Rover SC badges... cheezy, maybe, but whatever.
It truly is still the best mod that can be done to our trucks.
