Did it come with that grill, or did you have to remove it from a TRD grill. I haven’t seen the chrome trim on on the TRD before usually a paint match trim.
Also what type of paint did you use on the tow hooks? Rustoleum red?

 

Yes. it came with chrome trim... have not done any paint job on the tow hook.

 

Looks good, I didn’t realize that is a stock setup on a limited.

I swapped the limited grille for a TRD pro grill and kept the chrome surround. And yes I sprayed the tow hooks TRD red

 

For any MGM owners in Middle Tennessee, Line X of Franklin has an ARE CX HD 5.5ft topper in stock. In MGM. Previous purchased cancelled their owner. Give them a call and ask for Anne...she will come off the price for ya if you ask nicely.

MGM brethren - my door handles are 6 years old and faded. I'm considering replacing them with black (either classic or attitude) instead of color matching. Anyone done this and have pics?

 

Ugh look at the picture two posts above yours or two posts before that. The black handles are standard on some trims including the Pro. (I like the black on gray). If you go Attitude then it is the gloss appearance that you may like more.

 

mine are the flatte black. trying to get a feel for how the glossy blacks look. or if i should just go color match

 

Little crummy pics because of the rain, posted in the "what did you do to your 3rd gen"... But I wanted to share the love with my MGM people...

Specs:

35x12.50r18 Falken MTs
Icon rRbounds (+25mm offset)
3 inch Aluma 2.0 coilover set at 3 inches (it looks like that's how it came in the box based on measurements)
1.5 inch toytec block in the back
Eibach shocks in the rear
Brake extension bracket and diff drop kit too

No rub at full turn forward or backward on the cab mount, but had rubbing on front plastic. Took it off today, will mod it tomorrow.

Ride is good, it's the MTs that have a little rough was to them...but overall the ride is very good.

Only about 1/2 inch tread sticking out from the offset.

 

No doubt I'd do the matte black. Color match is a risk if you replace OR paint because assumably the paint itself will have oxidized a little over time. Secondly, gloss black shows every dust particle and micro scratch where people put their hands with rings or dirt...or both....

Matte black looks better and doesn't standout like gloss would. It will compliment it. I'll be taking my chrome ones off soon to sand them down, prime them and paint in matte black. Only because I'd buy new handles but the platinum ones with sensors are around $500...no thanks.

 

Ran it through the touchless car was since I didn’t feel like fighting the heat today. MGM looks so good when it’s shiny.

 

For all of us chrome haters....and for all of us who are trying to figure out taking off the handles, paint them, pay $500 for black replacements....how about vinyl wrap???

How about doing something a little different?
How about kryptek camo over just the chrome???

 

Did you take apart the handles to do the vinyl wrap? How did you wrap the small sections?
What about replacing the chrome covers with the black covers of the SR5? Has anyone tried replacing covers only? The black would make the handles two tone but instead of vinyl and MGM it would be black and MGM.

 

We didn't even have to take them apart, which was part of the appeal. Plus, if you end up not liking it, it peels off. As far as doing it in black...we were going to do that, but, didn't have enough matte black available....then we were going to do all kryptek...not enough, so that's why we ended up with this cool solution. It was really by limited options , simplicity, and risk free application that I decided to do it.

Not sure what covers you mean? if they truly just go right over, they would just have to allow the keyless entry to work. I'm sure somehow the chrome comes apart...but pretty sure you have to take the door handles off to figure that out. We were able to apply right on the truck with a heat gun and an exacto knife.

 

I use the word “cover” as a description of the part not an additional overlay cover. Essentially it is the chrome pieces on the large outside of the handle and the small side piece. They can be replaced with the SR5 black ones for about $175, which I am seriously considering if I can determine the correct part numbers.

 

Hmmm... Yeah I've seen guys with success painting and was very tempted...for about $10/$20 of some paint or plastidip and clear coats, you might be fine. On the other hand, this was some vinyl wrap left over from a friend wrapping his 6.5 AR , so we used that for free....
