Wasn’t me, but I think there are a couple members up in that area that either had or were trying to buy a LR.

Not the original - it comes off in crinkly wrinkly chunks...by the last window I was getting better at it, but there's no way you'll be putting it back on. I'm sure you could take it somewhere that does vinyl wraps and have it done though - not much to it.

I did the first window while it was in the sun (only 50 here today but the rays helped). After that they were in the shade and it was a bitch until I got the heat gun. Ran it at about 300 on high-fan and used it like a hair dryer.

I used a hair dryer and dental floss to remove mine on my Tacoma. Worked great pretty easy

Fuck it I'm taking my badges off next summer when it warms up. Y'all convinced me, had been toying with the idea already

I remember my 2008 being more difficult than this was. But there was around 20k on my 2008 when I did it, so that might have been part of it? I also used 100lb monofilament line this time and one piece made it through all but the last 5.7 badge before it broke on me. I honestly don't think I spent 15 minutes on all of them combined including getting the foam tape off under the badges.

Now the window pillar trim was a bit more involved...

Did you have to use something to get the sticky off after you popped the badges off?

I "flossed" the badges off with the fishing line. Then used the pad of my thumb/finger to "roll" the sticky foam up (it's the 3M automotive foam tape). Then used a little bug and tar remover to get any little bit of residue that was hanging out around the edges. I'm going to have my daughter's boyfriend give it another wash this weekend and hit it again with ceramic wax to hit all the places that were under the badges the first time he did it.

Looks really good. Much cleaner without the badges. I always felt like the "TUNDRA" on the door was just floating in the middle of no where. I had no idea the pillar trim was painted underneath! Have you thought about color matching the door handles?

I had color matched door handles on my 2008, so yes, I've thought about it. I struggle with the price though, since color-matching the smart key handles is looking to be somewhere in the $800 ball park!

How did you get the pillar trim off. I love the look without the black paint.

I have a heat gun with dial-adjustable temperature, I had it on high fan and heat about 300. A hair dryer would work too. If you open your door, you'll see the vinyl wraps around the leading edge - warm up a corner a little and start picking with your finger nail (I started at the top corner). Once you get enough loose that you can start to pull/peel, work around to the outside with that starting corner. Roll down the window, and you can push the window weatherstripping out of the way and see the other edge, except at the top corner it's a bit more "buried" - but as long as you keep the vinyl warm enough to be pliable you can peel the top edge out of that corner. From there, I just kept working my way down until you get to the trim along the base of the window. That trim you need to aim some heat down into the gap there, and pull slowly/carefully and the vinyl will pop out of there too.

Once you start, there's no going back!

Yeah - the older handles weren't too bad...especially for a Double Cab. But the front handles on the new trucks have all the sensors in them for the smart key and that makes them spendy...and the Lunar Rock paint code isn't really common either yet.

Edit: Lunar Rock isn't listed on Sparks yet, but the other "Pro" colors are running about $685 plus shipping for a Crewmax set of smart key handles.

I never use my parking sensors, but I see why you Pro guys are so concerned with them....

I've only seen one truck in this thread parked within the lines! :stirthepot:

Damn! Should be way cheaper just to color match the existing handles. Obviously, one loses use of the truck while that's happening, but I would think $200-300 at most to prep and paint. Unless the proximity sensors complicate that idea...

The challenge with the stock handles is that they are textured matte (plain plastic). Painting those can be tough to get looking good. A good chunk of the cost on the color-matched smart handles is that you're buying a set that are already painted (not sure if they are Sequoia or Land Cruiser handles) and then getting them re-painted through Sparks.

Ah, I did not know that the handles are textured. This sounds like an idea I have for when mine arrives that I'll need to let go. There are far more fun ways to spend $700 on a vehicle.

Watched two different people (both Tundra owners) do a double take at my truck yesterday. One was turning out of a cross street while I was waiting at a left light on my way to work, he did a double take and kept looking until he couldn’t turn his head any more. The other was on the freeway heading home, I passed him, he did a second look then sped up and hung out in my blind spot for half a mile before backing off and taking the next exit.

    made me smile inside...
