@Mac5attack, the little slider sounds like a great idea for DC. Make sure to post pictures or a video.

My first choice would be to learn how to run a slim jim and try not to break any windows if I could help it. A lock smith can pop your door in seconds with a couple small wedges and the equivalent of a custom-bent coat hanger. My second choice would be to stash a basic key that will operate the door lock but nothing else in some inconspicuous but well secured location (perhaps zip tie a small waterproof case up to the cross member above the spare tire). This would at least give me an override to get in but not start the truck and drive off.

Fixing broken windows is a pain in the ass and expensive - even the little slider on the DC requires a fair amount of surgery to get to for a fix. You'll have to pull the back seat, then pull trim in the back of the cab. Clean up all the glass. Get the new one in place. Put it all back together. Etc. And you may find that piece of glass is harder to get your hands on through a glass shop that more "standard" replacements.

On a separate note - who the fuck locks their dogs in the truck and goes off on a hike?!? :censored:

Ohhh I didn't think about hiding the door key that doesn't work the engine, that's actually a good idea and strap that puppy down tight. I'm a super OCD adventure fiend, but let's be honest, sometimes sh*t goes wrong.

Now with the family, many judgments can be made. They had no GPS, got super delayed, were rappelling with a 6yo, and were about one sneeze away from needing a rescue. I was in my tent drinking tea when I heard their voices above the cave (I was aware it's a canyoneering route, but didn't expect anyone at 8pm). They rappelled down to me and I wrapped the kid in a space blanket, made them drink warm Gatorade, and force fed the kiddo all my extra food while they tried to calm down and figure out what to do. They had about 5.5 hard miles to hike with super challenging navigation, and the moon wasn't up yet. Thankfully they made the call to stop when they realized they were disoriented and built a fire. I met up with them the next day and humans and dogs were all fine, but yeah all I could think was "WTF"

Glad to hear everyone was OK (including the pups). It amazes me how many people we see going out on hikes with nothing but flip flops, yoga pants, and a t-shirt. No water, no basic first aid, no PLB. I don't care if it's a 2 mile saunter down the local park or your trying to catch a waterfall 6 miles from the trailhead - have some basic supplies and don't bring along a dog and lock it in the damn car.

My wife and her best friend came across a wet, disoriented, and hypothermic hiker in 2020 on the PCT. They hadn't seen anyone for 5 hours before they came across him. He had no PLB, and really no other gear fit for the type of conditions and distance he had traveled so far. If it hadn't been for them having an inReach on them, they would have had to turn around (they were just short of 1/2 way into 120 miles) and hike him back out. And if they hadn't found him, he would have ended up another statistic.

Yikes! I thru hiked the pct in 2011 and had to call in a helicopter to rescue a dehydrated hiker out there. I carried a spot for many years, then grabbed a inreach a few years ago. Great little tool. Though I figured out a few days ago I hadn't updated the firmware and it was non-operational. Which was a pain and might have come in handy. Thankfully no helicopters or broken windows were needed!

I was livid. I'm still cranky about it. I know they say "test before each trip" but I'm kinda doing things nonstop. And I pay for the subscription, and then found out this trip that it's not updated and needs a computer to update. Kinda a pain when you're on the road. I feel like they should make it still work without the firmware update and send me some stern emails in capital letters or something. But nope, just an expensive paperweight. If you've got an inreach, learn from me and check for updates on your computer :angrygirl:

A lot of people never think to look at the trail behind them. Its a good idea to keep yourself aware of markers.

You can get a combo lock box with a cover for spare key that bolts to your frame.

Anyways I always carry inreach, sat phone and usually have someone with me.

My Grandpa was my best friend and he taught me so many things. The six P's of success are: Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. The man was a genius! Plan for worst case scenarios and prepare accordingly. Many people try to mentally remember landmarks on a trail, you should, but also take a photo with your phone for reference. You know your phone will work because you planned to have not one but two battery back-ups. Sat phone - Hell Yes. Equipment, food, etc for disaster. Anything short of planning just verifies Darwinism.

Went for a drive in the woods yesterday...
Also spent 4 hours cleaning up trash - filled the entire bed of the truck full.

Nice job. It’s a shame that so many people litter out there. I lived in the Northwest for 30 years and I always took pride in taking care of the environment out there. Seems like people just don’t care these days.

Well I got a full detail done, then promptly put a full length juniper scratch down the passenger side. Shit'll buff out:rolleyes: got a little rowdy in Southern Utah, 4 high and smashed the gas up a super rutted out road full of big rocks in the dark. The truck did amazing, still so pleased with it.

30k service today, already had the oil change, what other big things should I be asking for? I think there's some filters to swap and maybe fluids to check. My skid plate is super noisy right now, so maybe some rubber washers? Back to my stock tires and 18mpg was a welcome change.

I think at 30k it should be oil, oil filter, tire rotation, and at your environment, I'd prob get an air intake filter swap done since it's dusty.
The skid plate, there's a Toyota tech tip about a creaky skid plate on the TRD PRO skid plates and to order a skid plate hardware kit. I just had mine done on the Sequoia, but the dealership said they weren't getting good results out of it, so they said they made some Teflon washers to go between the plate and the mounts. Hasn't creaked since. Took them about 2-3 hours I think

Engine air filter and cabin air filter both need changed. You might want to do your transfer case fluids with the amount of off-road you do

Apparently my skid plate was making so much noise because it was full of rocks. Who put those there?!

Was a pretty day up in the hills again today. Rained on us a bit too - got to sling some mud from the tires and cycle the suspension a bit. Also picked up another load of garbage.

    White wheels, or white truck?
You can speed scroll through this thread, but I don’t remember anyone having white, grey, or silver wheels in their LR. There’s been red, bronze, and a lot of black.

White, silver or grey is what I’m wanting to see on Lunar Rock. I’ve scrolled it all… I’m hoping someone just knew of another pic that doesn’t exist here.

I have searched the internet for all different pics with our LunaRock Pros and have not seen that color wheel. I’m keeping black on my Pro with my new SCS wheels. You are probably better off if you can find someone to photo shop a pic. I did that with my older corvette years ago.

I have this picture with one of my white wheels. I got the same set in silver as well but it's somewhere in storage. I'll try to dig one up and take a better picture if you don't find one.
