I used to hate lowered trucks. I grew up a little and now only hate lowered trucks that are 4WD.

One of the nice things about a slammed truck is you don't need a step ladder to get into the bed.

Here is a pic of me hauling some equipment I was making to the powder coater. This was in a lowered X-Runner.

It looks as good as the blacked wheeled lifted mall crawlers that never get off of the pavement.

LOL, it would seem that the person doing the CGI has never owned a truck, or just straight up missed it.

Don’t knock the usefulness of a dropped truck. Considering 99.9% off truck drivers never leave pavement, much less off road, a lowered truck is a fun vehicle. Planting an 8000lb diesel in a corner and chasing down corvette’s and then hooking up a gooseneck and towing a load of hay with the same truck is great.

lol lowered vehicles dont really work in my town (north dakota). curbs and parking lot entrances are raised 3-4 inches compared to the public roads around here more than not. funny how many have to attack fast food entrances at an extreme angle. those cali transplants dont last very long during the summer and they make great snow plows in the winter :)

Minot AFB seems to get too many cali transplants

My last truck, a Silverado, had a 2/4 drop. I tend to drive everything like a sports car so a little lower center of gravity helps. I thought about lowering my 3rd gen but then did the opposite and raised it 2/1. I kind of like being above traffic but the most off-roading I do is a dirt road. With the occasional flooding in Houston, it's a little more reassuring, but it corners like crap.

I have seen a couple of lowered 3rd gens recently but they weren't stopped for me to talk to them about how they did it.

Had a 1995 Chevy short wide with V8 5speed combo and a 2/4 drop. Fun truck, good times. Would daily one now. Not as versatile as a crew cab 4wd, but what I probably need 70% of the time VS the bigger truck.

Makes sense. Some of our Californians don't know how to drive in anything other than sunny conditions and pretty roads. I do apologize on California's behalf

oh dont worry you dont have to apologize for them. they learn pretty quick up here not to drive them lowered cars a lot here. they either get rid of them after 1 winter or get another car.

you should see the hot rods and 700+ hp cars disappear during the winter months. but then again they unusually have a 4x4 truck for winter months.

and the first sign of no snow the motorcycles come out the wood work. granted its still in the 40-50F range and they still ride. but the newbies learn pretty fast that until the sweepers come out, the sand everywhere makes riding very dangerous. a simple turn at 10-20 mph turns into a road rash really quick up here.

I bet...its pretty much riding weather 300 days out of the year where I'm at. In my 25yrs driving, never needed 4x4 in my daily driving...If I lived 1hr north, I'd get laughed at if I bought a 2wd.

I suppose the first "lowered" pickup I recall was the 1990's Chevy 454SS. My buddy's dad owned one in black. The thing was sexy as hell. Black, regular cab short bed, tons of power.

    Just like this one:

Most "lowered" trucks aren't very low, generally still higher clearance than a regular car. They're generally more useable for the average person, as long as the suspension is properly setup. Some newer trucks don't respond well to even a little bit of lowering. I remember reading that some of the adjustable rear suspension Tundras were having height issues and smacking the bump stops. The Tundra might be one of those trucks that don't do well lowered.

The really lowered trucks will have drop spindles and c-notched frame, those look low and have a hard time functioning as a daily.

C notched frames prevent bump stop/frame slaps. I've had WAY better results using spindles vs springs since it maintains the stock ride quality where drop springs don't. Absolutely no issues driving a notched truck as a daily for 100k miles until I sold it. Not sure what your experience has been that you think drop spindles and notched frames are not DD friendly.

    You're correct.

On my smartphone, I didn't bother to cite those who mentioned clearance. Drop spindles and notched frame ride amazing, but usually those trucks are so low that curbs, potholes, valleyed driveways, speed bumps, require more care, which I believe is what others meant about clearance. I rarely see people lower trucks this way, at least where I live. Back in the 90's it was common.

My point is usually the "easy" methods of lowering a truck don't work well on some trucks (seems the big 3 trucks are more forgiving about lowering springs and blocks) and the "correct" way to lower a truck can allow a truck to be ridiculously low (that depends on where you live).

I used to drive a lowered truck when I was younger and def. miss it. When done correctly air bags give you a fabulously soft smooth ride.

Here are a few pics of my old Toyota Pickup

I def. miss that House of Kolor - Sunset orange pearl and Tangelo Pearl color and how it popped in the sun.
