What was the vehicle OP was offered 12.5K on?
    Remember, It's the free market.

The 2 vehicles are probably not precisely the same.

No 2 deals are exactly the same.

Two used trucks shopped at different times will have different amounts of money tied up in them from however the dealer acquired them and whatever the dealer had to do to them.

Depending on what else is going on on the sales floor one dealer may find a profit level acceptable in a sale that the other won't. Maybe dealer A is doing slower business and sweetening deals to close sales more than dealer B needs to.

Maybe dealer 1 that offered 12k had less tied up in the used vehicle they wanted to sell you, and could therefore afford to sweeten the deal with the trade, whereas dealer 2 has more money tied up in the vehicle they want to sell you. Maybe the last truck you looked at sat on the lot too long. Maybe it was an odd ball configuration or lacked a commonly preferred option, and they saw a chance to dump a truck they wanted to get rid of and get a truck they thought they could sell faster.

What it sounds like the salesman was really trying to tell you is what someone else in this thread mentioned, you should focus on the difference you pay and not dwell on your trade because the other dealer probably made you feel good about your trade by charging more for their truck and making the money back there. Chasing a higher trade value against a lower sale price isn't going to work. They're making their money on the front end or the back end. Each dealer has a specific amount of money they expect to make on each deal. So you should just worry about what the final number looks like rather than winning on both ends, which you'll never do unless a dealer for some reason is so eager to close a deal they're willing to lose money.

In a trade the buyer and the seller change hats, and the rule of things only being worth what people are willing to pay for them still applies. If you don't like it you keep shopping, or try to sell privately. IF they want your business badly enough they'll call you back. if you decide you want their truck badly enough, you'll call them back.

I would suggest Carmax as they got us 4K more than dealer trade offer when we sold my wife's Camry, but I hear their enthusiasm tends to drop off above the 80K mark.

Go to carmax and get them to appraise it for purchase. Takes 30 minutes and is painless. THAT will be you best case scenario for a decent trade in price. That number may or may not work for you.

If you have time, sell it yourself. I had the local Ford dealer offer me $2500 for my 2009 Ford F-150 Lariat shortbed 4x2 in 2018! Told them to go pound sand. Sold it in 1 weekend for 8K cash. Buyer came in from 150 miles to get it. Buyer gave me full price and was happy as a clam. Auto trader premium ad was all it took.

Your mileage may vary. Best of luck to you, just take your time and try not to get paralysis by analysis.

That dealership came up to $10.2k trade with same sale price.
If I get them to $10.7k I may pull the trigger.

    I think it’s a good deal for a 2015 Tundra CM TRD.

It's actually not a bad deal. Nissan trucks suck at resale. I paid $26K OTD for mine with 78K factory certified with SR5 premium package and Texas edition that was better wheels and leather. Power train warranty till 100K and 1 year bumper to bumper warranty except for wear items. The year warranty eased my apprehension that it may have issues and was sold because of that

ETA: You are in the sweet spot with 3 days left in the month. If that truck is rolling up 30 days on the lot, they are wanting it gone. You have a day or so more for them to noodle on it. Hopefully they are behind for the month. I was kicking tires on a Friday and got a call on Monday the 29th of July. Sticker was $29K. Cash sale. So no money made from anything else.

I’m hoping to get them to $10,700 tomorrow if I offer to put $1,000 cash down.
That puts me at $315 on a 6 year loan. Which is a great monthly price.
Just weighing the pros and cons of a 5-6 year loan.

Is the Tundra covered for 100k miles on drivetrain? They say “factory warranty” still in effect. I gotta see what exactly that means.

No only if factory certified. You are still under 60K. I'd get under it and look real hard, test drive and leave. If you finance through them then think about what they're going to make. You still have another $2K they could maybe come down. See how much they want to sell. If it was 4WD that's one thing but wait it out unless you got money burning a hole in your pocket. You'd be surprised

4WD and clean You're pretty damn good. Get them to knock off dealer adds like oil changes and stuff to get closer.

Problem is the dealer is about an hour and half away. So I won’t be going back for oil changes.

truck looks super clean. Not sure why it hasn’t sold. Clean 1 owner car fax. Sold and serviced by the dealership selling it too.

Most people can't handle the quickness and power of the white trucks. This is most likely the reason.

My last bunch of vehicles have been black on black. It’s so overplayed now. Time for a change. That’s why I’m drawn to the white. Gonna black out the wheels though and do white bumpers. Either the covers or have the white vinyl put over them. Everyone has black on black now.

I love that new blue color but cant do blue on a truck. I’ve never had a white truck. Not sure of any cons. I think it makes it look a little “rich and fancy”. Lol.
But the white is probably why it hasn’t sold yet.

if you go on the lot and look at the window sticker or look up the truck online, how much is the dealer asking for that truck?

    They are asking $27.9k.
They are stuck at $27.4k on it for selling price.

KBB is around $32.5k on it or so.

I find it weird that truck has not sold yet to be honest. Just by what you are saying it is priced pretty well already. To be honest I never see too many dealers posting a price that far under values. I could clearly see them taking that truck in on trade and assigning a value or trade in value of around $26 to $27 thinking they would get $30k for it and it has not happened. I would say if you are a serious buyer than $10k for your trade and $27k for that truck is about as good as it gets.

I have to be honest, it took me 6 months to buy my Tundra. I would haggle over $500 and kept reaching out and trying to haggle a little more on good deals. Those trucks would sell right out from me, or dealers would shit down on me and give me a take it or leave it price as they saw me as a "tire kicker". I had to suck it up and pay a little more to get my Tundra.

You are talking about $500 more for tase in and financing 60+ months. That comes out to $9 more per month. I am pretty frugal, but if that is going to kill a deal as a salesman I would not waste my time being brutally honest.

I say all this with respect of course, and the blacked out look is so over played! All of the blacked out look is being replaced on all the lifted trucks with chrome faster than you can imagine around here.

Op. There are plenty of tundras for sale. I would call that dealer in the am and tell him the deal you want, say they have one hour to get back to you or your going to pick up a truck at a different dealer.

Don't make any further contact til month end ie friday. You may even hear from them sooner...

These guys will be motivated to pump up their sales numbers for january. Especially good strategy if the weather has been bad for 5/6 days.

Theres a few dealers like that around here. These ones sell in volume so they come in $3-4000 under on used and they dont negotiate price.

    Depends where you're at.

Strategy worked great for me here in Cowtown. Pickups are very popular and economy is down.

First make a deal on the truck you are buying. That's the price, regardless of financing, trade it, paying cash. This shouldn't matter...but it does to them (this is how you get the balls deep treatment). When the mixing of the deals starts (4 square)....get the lube ready.

Next should be your trade in or sell privately decision. If you plan on selling the Nissan for 12000.00 privately, or the dealership offers you 10000.00, time to do some math. 27400-10000=17400 is taxable. In my hood that would be 887.00 in taxes instead of 1397.00. So if you honestly think you can sell the truck for 12000.00, you can spend minimal on advertising and still make out.

Not sure what I could get private. Or how long I works sit on it. ThTs why I would do close to $11k. Gotta par tax anyway. $1k won’t kill the taxes.

When you have a trade-in, it adds a whole other dimension to the purchase price. I hear people all the time saying what a smokin' deal they got on their new vehicle, then at the end of their story briefly mention they got hosed on a trade. Dealers are slimeballs, but they aren't stupid. If they can make people feel like they're getting a good deal on the new car while making a killing on a trade-in they'll jump all over it. I know it's inconvenient, but you should always just try to sell your vehicle yourself. I get in some states there are tax implications with selling vs trading, but you're still mostly gonna be better off selling yourself.

But if I sell my truck and then purchase with the cash down it’s a difference of $600 out of my pocket. That’s if I get $11k for mine through a sale. If I trade mine for $10,700 I lose the $300 but pay $600 less in taxes toward the new one. So a $300 gain for me. It kinda cleans the slate on a private sale compared to a trade in.

I won’t bicker too much with them.
I sent back $10,700 on my trade and we are there. Up to them now. I’ll keep ya posted on all those who care or are curious. See what happens. I’ll sit on this for a bit now.

I don’t think I can get them down any lower on sale price or up more on the trade price. See what happens.

They said they would do $10,700 subject to inspection.

So $27,400 sale price for truck
    10,700 for trade-in allowance

Fairly normal. They didn't do an inspection on 1st offer?
Could be a way to get you back in there. Subject to inspect leaves the door open to lower offer.

They play games with the numbers. Some will come down with their price and some will give you better trade-in. In the end it does not matter. 1+2=3 and 2+1=3. As long as you are happy with the out-of-door price and resulting monthly payment.

Some take chances though and totally low-ball the trade-in to begin with. That's when I get up and go - I don't deal with dishonest, unethical people. There is a difference between acceptable business and dishonesty.

I think it’s a good deal. Price is right on it all. I’ll clear more on the trade in then I originally put down before to buy the truck. Tundra is a nice truck I would be getting.

    just running final numbers now.

    With $1000 down....
