But does your truck identify as a hybrid?

Long time lurker on the forums here.

I have a 2024 TRD PRO that has a pretty significant rattle at idle in gear. Turning off the AC doesn’t resolve the rattle, it sounds like a can of marbles coming from the hybrid motor/transmission area.

I had found some prior threads on this and I just wanted to provide an update on this issue in case someone else is in a similar boat. TSB-0086-24 did not fix my rattle issue, which I was really hoping for when I went in (ECM reprogram).

Hopefully they can escalate and solve the issue as truck is great aside from this.

I would bet money on a heat shield somewhere underneath
how exactly did you run the hybrid battery low when you have no control over it?

    Cool story.

Techs had the truck for two hours today before they called me back to replicate it. They said they thought it was a heat shield too until they heard it. Now they are escalating to Toyota and it is clearly coming from transmission/hybrid motor.

And you can run the hybrid battery down by…stopping? The engine cuts off and it runs off battery until the battery runs low.

I got the truck back and you can read the report I attached. Toyota is aware of the issue so they just updated the software and so far so good.

NOTE - I don’t post much so if the attachment doesn’t work, let me know.

The attachment worked fine, hopefully that works for you long term!

The software TSB did NOT fix or improve the rattling in mine at all. They conducted the TSB and pulled it out of the bay and it was immediately making the noise again.

I had the same rattle and the TSB seems to have made mine go away.

it’s only been a couple of days, so I’ll have to check it again and report back

Interesting, Was there a date on this?

Same boat with regards to the TSB and rattling. Opened a case directly with Toyota as the dealership wouldn't, haven't heard back as of yet. Dealership stated it is not normal but they don't know what to do about it and have asked the FSR to come out and look at it but he has been unable to provide a date.

Wild this was resurrected. I noticed this yesterday sitting in a drive through line on my 2025 limited non hybrid.

When the truck is in gear with my foot on the brake, I hear a slight rattle. almost like a rock rattling. When id throw it into park, it would go away.

don’t seem normal to me, but what do i know

Same issue here on a 2024 hybrid. Going to raise the issue at my next dealer visit for when I get my spare key. Opened up a case with Toyota.

My 2025 TRD rally has some weird rattle at random. Sometimes in park, sometimes in gear with my foot on the break. Only hear it in the drive thru if I’m inside the truck. Doesn’t sound like internal engine noise. I have a dirt driveway, a very rough road that’s a few years over due for new pavement and I may have already taken it up some small mountains so I’m gonna be checking the heat shields and a few other things. Only about 700 miles on it so far. Drives just fine.

it is the clutch that alternates between battery and gas power to the wheels.

I hope it’s normal because all the hybrids do it. It’s embarrassing for such an expensive truck however

So after watching this thread for a bit, I'll provide some input. I have a 2024 hybrid limited. There are two conditions which I have noticed while driving. One is a rattle when in drive and foot on the brake - this only happens when the hybrid system is recharging. My take on it is that something is loose and not just attributed to the hybrid Tundra - especially since non hybrid owners have reported the same thing - just search. Second condition I have noticed is a clunk / popping when I let off the throttle and going less than 40 mph. I can feel this noise in the pedal assembly with my foot on the gas. I'm not sure if it is hybrid system related, but its possible. I'll have to investigate on the source of the sound using some location methods such as stethoscope and visual checks. I'd say the first step is to figure out how these issues can be replicated. Is it on cold start, once the vehicle is warmed up, etc.

I've had the same rattle once or twice, 25 Platinum Hybrid. First noticed in a drive thru and assumed it might've been a rock. Going to start paying more attention to it now....

My dealer in TX told me that if they can't replicate it at the dealer there is nothing for them to do ... thought I have provided a video and sound of the random rattle

Yep, in their world if they can't replicate it, it isn't happening. I think too many service depts were performing fixes, based solely on "the customer states", and charging Toyota for it when it wasn't an issue. Once Toyota received the "broken/bad" part, when requested, they were good parts with no issues and they started doing it this way (Toyota approval of the issue and the fix). Now they've gone too far the other way with the standard "could not replicate" on everything not associated with a TSB...at least the dealership i USED to use, is this way. Once the TSB came out, it was like we'd never discussed the issue before and they were outstanding at their job for finding and fixing it!

TSB does not fix it, at least in my vehicle.
