    Money is funny.

If it comes in easy, it goes out super easy.

But imagine if someone who works in Finance, like myself, wins it. I would pay off my debt, build a juicy bond ladder, then live off of the interest payments. I could have a modest $10 million bond ladder and live nicely off of a 3% return, roughly 300k a year. On top of that I would start investing in real estate and businesses. The bond ladder would remain a safety net from there.

    If i ever win...
I will pay off the debts, disburse some to charities and deserving people i know. Active members in this forum will all get TRDPRO each. I strongly agree w 3% return that's the way to go, that's what i always thought off. No investment properties cause i dont want to be owned by things I own. I will then disappear change every thing and change my life. Money is evil. Created by the evil in human kind.

    That's if i ever play...lol

    Ok I'll be glad to start it up. Here are the rules for the Mega Millions pool;

    - $20 to play
    - If we hit, lump sum is taken and split amongst the players evenly.
    - One person per $20 (example, can't say "that's my wife and I $20 so you have to count her as a player").
    - PayPal $20 to me at silv333@gmail.com as "friends and family". Include your real name and then your screen name for this forum.
    - All numbers picked will be "quick picks".
    - Last chance to send $20 is 5pm on Tuesday.
    - I'll go buy all tickets and then PM the folks who are playing pictures of the tickets by 9pm East Coast time Tuesday.
    - Smaller jackpot winnings will go with majority rule on either to roll the money to more tickets or payout the players.

    - NEW RULE ADDED AT 10:31PM; if you're in, in addition to doing the Paypal thing, send me a PM on here and I'll respond confirming I received your money. This will serve as two forms of comms to ensure everything is fair.

The taxes will tackle you from behind if you only get a 3% return. Not to mention, you're not even keeping up with inflation, but maybe I'm under informed on how bond ladders work. ;)

Either way, making you think it will be different for you is one of the ways they get your money in the first place.

You have a better chance of hitting it big by using your money to buy random stocks than to buy lotto tickets.

If you have a billion dollars how long would it take for taxes and inflation to catch up? Even if you just bury it in Mason jars in the backyard?
But that would require a shit ton of Mason jars.

There's a whole lot of good folks on here. But for a billion dollars I wouldn't trust my own family to go in together.

Taxes on interest payments are typically 10-20% depending on total income for the year. Also, 3% is ultra conservative. We are in a raising rate environment so I would keep everything short and mid term until the rates top off then buy gov bonds at the highest and longest term rate. So it would quite possibly be 5-10% in the end. Also, with no debt, and a frugal lifestyle, inflation would not matter because I would be using less then I get in interest payments after tax.

That's why I would create a corporation, be chairman of the board, collect my paycheck but leave day to day stuff to the CEO. I would rely on independent audits for reputable CPA firms to keep everything above board.

Nah, hire a management company and pay them as if they are your vendors. They will charge a fee but its lot less than a CEO, his team and 3rd party auditing by CPA firm. More money upfront but less headaches and lot less expensive long term.

Create a corporation but dont get a paycheck cause you are not working 9-5 for that corporation. Instead, funnel your profits through k1. Pay lot less in taxes that way.
